Chapter 1
Chemical Imbalance
Scientists are experimenting with mixing chemicals. The chemicals they mix get leaked into the world, spreading non-stop. The results could lead to catastrophe, death, destruction. Its not long after, children around the world started getting powers. In the year 2050 all the technology became advanced. The scientists saw live holograms of people with powers, though there never seemed to be an adult in the bunch. It was obviously connected to the chemical leak. They get a bunch of powered kid videos and track the IP addresses. They go to the addresses, only to be rejected by each and every parent they asked to use their kid in an experiment.
The scientists got tired of being rejected so they eventually just vaporized every parent and collected the kids, until there were at least 500 kids. None of them had seen their parents get killed, except one. The only one who had was a ten year old girl, she had watched her parents get vaporized. One second they were there, the next, they were dust. Not that the scientists cared about how traumatized she was. They made all the kids get a tattoo on the front of their wrist.
001 pov:
I’m 10 years old, I witnessed my parents get vaporized. I knew everything that happened, yet I couldn’t remember my name, I could even remember my parents names, as if burned into my brain. Had these other kids also witnessed their parents' deaths. One of the scientists, or at least that's what told me they were, led me into a room with a chair, motioning me to sit. The scientist leaves and a man walks in. The man gets stuff from some from a cabinet, wiping my arm. He grabs something with a small, thick needle at the end. The man presses it to my arm and starts writing something on the front of my wrist. I couldn’t even bother to take a look at what he was writing because I was squeezing my eyes together in pain, the pain felt like it’d never go away and it’d hurt forever.
“Ouch” the man says, stopping, “why does it feel like i’m the one getting the tattoo”. He puts the needle back onto my skin and continues writing, “nearly done” he says. About thirty seconds later he takes the needle off and I see what he wrote. He slaps a band-aid on it and says “don’t take the band-aid off for at least 5 hours”, leading me out, another kid walking in. There were 20 lines leading to different doors.
I notice a group of kids with band-aids on the same spot, all talking about the number they got. I walk over to them and they ask me what number I got. “Number 001” I say softly. “Really” one of them asks. “Yeah” I say, looking down. “Hey, do any of you remember your names?” I ask, brows furrowed. “No” they all say in unison, frowning deeply. After a while when every kid has their number, the scientists start doing brain scans, when they scan mine, they frown, looking concerned. “What is it?” I ask, scared. “Even though everyone of your brains is different from what it should be, yours is entirely different from any I've ever seen” they say. “Is that bad?” I ask. “I don't know,” they whisper, barely talking.
After we eat and it’s time to go to sleep, I lie awake, everyone else out cold. Suddenly a weird smell reaches my nose, one I’d smelt before, before I’d gotten my powers. To the extent of my knowledge, whatever power I thought of, I’d have. Everyone in the room, besides me, bolts up from their sleep and all become paranoid of random things, thinking they are gonna get attacked, until they all just plop back on their beds, as if nothing had happened. I didn’t get any sleep that night, wondering what had happened.
In the morning, everyone acted absolutely insane. Fingers were pointed here and there, claiming the other was trying to hurt them. All of the kids went berserk, running amuck, destroying everything. Eventually, when everyone calmed down, they started thinking that the non-powered people were gonna start hunting us and were planning to band together to get them before they got us.
In the end they ended up killing every human in the world, the only humans still alive were the 500 powered kids. They couldn’t even manage to co-exist, they no longer all had something to fight against, nothing that would attack them, except each other. They ended up killing each other, the only human left after that ordeal was 001. In the midst of all the chaos, she teleported away, unnoticed. 001 lives out her life among the plants and animals, eventually, death takes her in her old age. The human race is no more.
