Prologue:
Ms.Carter sat on the Whitlock family’s recliner in the living room, reading the newspaper. She had just put the children to sleep. She heard a car drive up the driveway and sighed.
“That must be them,” Ms. Carter pushed herself out of her seat and walked to the door. She opened it, only to find two male cops out front.
“Are you they’re aunt?” One asked, she shook her head.
“I’m the nanny, what are you doing here?” She spoke in a clear voice, making sure they understood her. The second cop came forward, holding a paper.
“Mr and Mrs. Whitlock died in a car accident, we’re very sorry. We’re here to take the children to the orphanage,” He said, taking his hat off and bowing. Ms. Carter got a sick feeling in her stomach but nodded and went to get the children. Ms. Carter slowly crept upstairs, she went into the first child’s room.
“Vivian, come downstairs, please” The child looked up at her and groaned,
“But, it’s already 9:00!”
“Do as I say,” Ms. Carter walked down the hallway to the second Child’s room and knocked three times before entering.
“Violet, take Griffin and go downstairs.”
The middle child nodded and scooped up the cat, happily going down the stairs. Now, it was finally Varian’s turn. The nanny, sadly, walked to Varian’s bedroom, whom was reading instead of sleeping. Usually she’d be mad, but she would miss him talking on and on about the dragons in his stories.
Varian closed the book shut, looking at the nanny nervously.
“Sorry Ms. Carter, I’ll go back to sleep, if you want.” he blinked softly, grabbing his teddy bear.
“Actually, you need to go downstairs. Don’t ask, just go.” Varian looked at the nanny with a puzzled expression, but hopped out of bed, teddy bear in hand, and dashed down stairs.
When she got downstairs, the first thing she heard was Vivian wailing, “Stop! They can’t be dead! You’re probably just pulling some sick joke on us!”
“We’re sorry, but we aren’t joking.” The officer said, looking down at the ground.
Violet let out a scream, falling to the ground and hugging Varian, who was also hysterically crying. The nanny sighed. “You three will be sent to an orphanage.”
“No! You won’t take me and my siblings to that awful place! I won’t allow it!” Vivian shouted, looking down at her siblings.
“You don’t have a choice, Miss.” The officer replied. Vivian scoffed, grabbing her siblings and dragging them upstairs. Ms. Carter sighed and went to speak to them but the officers were already ahead, dragging the children down the stairs and outside. The last officer gave her a smile “Thank you, for helping us!”, they slammed the door closed, leaving Ms. Carter in the recently empty house of the Whitlock family.
