Chapter 1
Amara’s POV
My name is Amara Davis, a teenager, but not a normal one. I’m a werewolf and I belong to the Blue Moon pack.
My father, Alpha Greg Davis, is a powerful and highly respected leader of the Blue Moon pack. My beautiful mother Mary, is the luna of our pack. My parents have two children William and myself. William is now 20 years old, is next in line for the alpha title and has already found his gorgeous mate, Rebecca.
I’m sitting on the riverbank of my pack, gazing at the moon and reflecting on my life. Growing up, I always had two dreams; to become a skilled pack doctor who could aid those in need and to find my mate, my one true love. Tomorrow, I would finally turn 18 and shift into my wolf form.
I have completed my basic education within the pack and now planning to pursue a medical degree. Throughout my childhood everyone in the pack would tell me, “What’s the point in becoming a doctor or working hard? You are alpha-born so there’s no need to work like a commoner” But my parents always encouraged me to become independent and strive for greatness.
I have always been free-spirited, independent and goal-oriented. Growing up, I didn’t have many friends, except for my two best friends, Debby and Ethan.
Debby is an omega and the daughter of our pack’s head chef, Ruth. She lost her father at a young age. Debby and I have been friends since middle school. She is a girl’s girl, she loves the gossips, parties, night outs and clubbing. But her first love is food. She wants to become a chef and open her own restaurant in future.
Ethan is Beta Henry’s youngest son. Uncle Henry has 3 kids, two boys and a girl. His eldest is Tony, a great warrior and next inline to beta title. Ethan’s sister Tasha is a teacher at our pack’s kindergarden. She loves kids and she joined the kindergarden soon after her graduation.
Ethan is my best friend. I know him since my childhood. He lost his mother while she was birthing him. If only our pack had a good doctor or a healer that time, we could have saved his mom. That is the sole reason Ethan wants to pursue medical degree.
As I sat there lost in my thoughts, I heard footsteps approaching. Turning around, I saw my parents walking towards me, hand in hand, their bond as strong as ever. I had always dreamed of finding a life partner who would cherish me the way my father adores my mother. They always had been my pillars of support and at this moment, I needed their guidance more than ever.
“Amara, what are you doing out here so late?” my mother asked, frown evident in her voice. As lovely and beautiful she appears to be, my mom can be scary sometimes.
“I’m just thinking about tomorrow, I’ll finally be able to shift and connect with my inner wolf” I replied, trying to keep my voice steady.
My father sat down beside me, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder. “You have grown up so fast, Amara. I remember when you were just a pup, running around the pack house without a care in the world”
I smiled “I know, Dad. But now, everything’s changing. I want to make a difference, to become a good doctor and help our pack. And I want to find my mate, like you found mom, William found Rebecca”
My mother sighed and sat down on my other side, her eyes filled with warmth. “You’ve always had a strong spirit, love. And we’re so proud of the woman you’re becoming. But remember, finding your mate is just one part of your journey. Your dreams and goals are important as well”
“Your mother is absolutely right on this” my father added. “Being alpha-born doesn’t mean you can’t have your own path. You’ve always been determined and I have no doubt you’ll achieve great things in your life”
“Thanks, Dad. Thanks, Mom” I said, feeling a bit more at ease. “I just hope I’m ready for whatever comes next”
My father chuckled. “You’re more ready than you think, Amara. Just trust yourself and follow your heart”
My mother nodded in agreement. “And no matter what happens, we’re here for you. Always” Their words filled me with a renewed sense of purpose and determination. I knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, I had the love and support of my family.
As we made our way back to the pack house, I couldn’t help but feel excited for tomorrow, which will be the beginning of a new chapter in my life. The moon shines brightly above us, casting a silver glow over the land and I felt a sense of peace settle within me. And with that, I felt ready to face whatever tomorrow would bring.
I live in the pack house where the alpha, beta and gamma families usually reside. Our pack house is situated in the heart of our pack and is surrounded by other houses of important families like warriors, doctors, chefs, pack elders etc. The Blue Moon pack is kind, powerful and intellectual, where everyone respects and care for one another.
I headed down for dinner, I was greeted with a bear hug from Debby. Soon Ethan also joined us for dinner. We all had dinner together that night, a regular tradition since the pack house itself feels like a big family.
Ethan and Debby have already turned 18 this year and got their wolves, Kara and Max. I’m the youngest of all. I was turning 18 tonight and everyone in the pack house are excited for me.
William gave me a mischievous look and said, “I can’t believe this monkey will become an adult soon. Can’t wait to see her ass getting kicked at college” I shot him a death glare and threw a piece of carrot at him. Everyone at the dinner table laughed at our playfulness.
After dinner, everyone went to their rooms. Debby and I went to Ethan’s room to watch TV and spend some time together. We all woke up a little late the next morning.
When I opened my eyes, I felt different. “Hey there, Amara. This is Eva, your wolf” I heard a voice in my head.
“Hey, nice to meet you, Eva. I’m so glad you’re finally here” I chimed.
“You are very beautiful Amara, our mate will be lucky to have us” she added further.
“I just wish we find him soon” I blushed at her comment.
Everyone gathered for breakfast in the pack house. Everyone wished me for my birthday and congradulated for getting my wolf. Ethan and Debby hugged me tight, “Happy birthday Amara” they both cheered in unison.
In the evening, we have a shifting ceremony at pack house where I would shift for the first time into my wolf. Typically, this is a lowkey ceremony which takes place in the presence of my dad, his beta, and the family of the person who is shifting. Since I am the alpha’s daughter the shift ceremony felt like a grand gathering. My parents are hosting a feast for my 18th birthday. I’m both excited and nervous.
My mom was over the moon since it was her daughter’s shift ceremony. She decorated the entire pack house like a fairy tale and invited all pack members for the feast. Everybody was dressed nicely for the celebration except me, I wore casual clothing since it would tear up, once I shift into Eva.
Debby was wearing a yellow floral short dress and Ethan was wearing a maroon button up shirt which was neatly tucked in grey formal trousers. I have heard growing up that, the first shift is always very painful and as the time flies all the later shifts will become swift and pain-free.
Around 7pm, we all gathered in the backyard. My dad was standing in the front, behind him was uncle Hentry and my mom. Dad commanded me to come forward and shift into my wolf using his alpha tone. After some initial struggle, I turned into a small white wolf with magnificent green eyes. Everyone cheered for me, as Eva adjusted herself to walk and jog in her new form.
Once I got the hang of it, I ran towards the pack woods, carefree, enjoying the wind caressing my fur. It felt incredible to experience everything around me from a different perspective. My senses are heightened and Eva is ecstatic to be free and running.
In a few minutes Ethan’s wolf caught up with me and we started running together towards the river. Ethan shifts into brown wolf with the most enchanting grey eyes. We halted and stared at our reflections in the water. We nuzzled each other playfully. We sat there, waiting for Debby to arrive.
