Chapter 1

The moment my mate rejected me… the entire pack watched.

I could feel their eyes, sharp and accusing, boring into me. Hundreds of wolves stood in a wide circle beneath the full moon, their whispers slicing through the cold night air like knives, carrying the weight of judgment and expectation.

Tonight was supposed to be the happiest night of my life. The Moon Ceremony. The sacred night every unmated wolf dreamed of—the night the Moon Goddess revealed fated mates. I had imagined this moment for as long as I could remember, closing my eyes as a little girl and feeling the magic pulse inside me, believing in the warmth of destiny.

But now… my heart pounded not with hope, but with terror. Because the man standing before me… looked at me as if I were nothing at all.

Alpha Rowan Blackwood. Tall. Unyielding. Feared by every wolf in the Bloodfang Pack. And my mate.

The bond had surged through me the instant he stepped into the circle, a crackling, searing lightning that fused my soul to his. Mine. And yet… his golden eyes held no recognition, no warmth. Only irritation. Only disgust.

A hollow ache twisted my stomach. No. Please, no.

He stepped closer, each motion deliberate, towering over me like a storm made flesh. His voice cut through the heavy silence of the courtyard, rich and commanding, carrying to every wolf standing in the circle.

“I, Rowan Blackwood, Alpha of the Bloodfang Pack…”

Every heartbeat in the clearing seemed to still. Every wolf leaned forward, waiting, hungry for the pronouncement that would seal our fates. My chest tightened painfully, my lungs shrinking as if the very air was gone.

“…reject you, Elara Vale, as my mate.”

The world stopped.

Gasps erupted around the circle. Shock ricocheted off stone walls, but none of it compared to the pain that exploded inside me. My mate bond, once electric and alive, snapped like a brittle bone shattering in my chest. My wolf screamed in silent fury, anguish so raw it nearly buckled my knees.

Tears burned my eyes, a fierce, insistent heat that threatened to spill, but I refused to give them the satisfaction. Not here. Not before them all.

Rowan’s gaze remained cold as winter ice.

“You are weak,” he said, each word a dagger. “A wolfless girl cannot stand beside an Alpha.”

Murmurs rippled through the pack, venomous and sharp. Of course. That was the truth they whispered behind polite masks. I was nineteen. My wolf had never shown itself, never howled or spoken, never shifted. A defect. A nothing.

I forced my trembling body upright, though it felt like every piece of me had been splintered.

“If that is your decision, Alpha,” I said, my voice quiet but steady, though it wavered beneath the weight of my humiliation.

Rowan gave a curt nod. “It is.”

Something inside me shattered completely. The bond—the miracle I had been told would change my life—dissolved into cold, empty nothingness. The Moon Goddess had chosen him for me… and he had discarded me as if I were a shadow, meaningless and replaceable.

Laughter bubbled up among the younger wolves, cruel and sharp. Humiliation ignited in my chest, a fire hotter than any pain I had ever known.

But just as Rowan turned his back, a sudden wind tore through the clearing. Torches danced and flared violently, shadows twisting and stretching like living things. The pack stiffened, confusion and unease rippling through them.

Then—a deep, resonant voice boomed from the entrance of the courtyard.

“Interesting.”

Every wolf froze. Even Alpha Rowan’s muscles tensed, rigid as steel. Slowly, the crowd parted, a trembling path opening through the circle.

And there he was.

The moment I saw him, the air left my lungs. Taller than Rowan, broader, radiating a power so commanding it made the earth itself seem to bow. Dark hair framed a face carved in sharp perfection, but it was his eyes that struck me—the silver of molten steel, piercing, unflinching, unstoppable.

Every wolf in the courtyard sank to one knee instinctively, awe and fear rippling like a shockwave.

My heart thundered—not in fear, not in caution—but in recognition. Because there was only one wolf in the world who could wield that kind of power. Only one wolf whose dominance demanded reverence… and whose presence could awaken the wolf in me that everyone had claimed did not exist.

And in that instant, my soul felt it: my wolf roared to life, fierce and undeniable, answering a call I had feared would never come.

Vampire: Great story. Clear plot line and very interesting. Characters are lovely and well made. Amazing writing skills and grammar. Only thing that was a little bit too much is the repetition but I guess it's a writing style? Anyways I love it definitely recommend it!
