Journal Entry: Lost in Action

I was about to press the trigger but someone shot my hand and made me drop my pistol.

Blood started to come down my hand. I screamed from the pain I felt.

I tried to stabilize it using my other hand. I squeezed my bleeding hand as hard as I could.

“You shouldn’t do this.” Someone said,

I turned my head to see that it was Delilah. She had her pistol in hand. However she was covered in a bit of dust. As if she just went through a mine.

I turned to her.

“How are you… alive?” I questioned.

“I didn’t let Eunice catch me. Anyhow let me see that. Sit on the rock there.” She said and nodded to the rocks by the hill.

I sat on them.

Delilah got a medical kit from her backpack.

As she set up her stuff she said “Don’t worry, I watched Zuri do this many times before.”

She began to try to get the bullet out.

“Don’t move.” She said calmly.

I tried to remain quiet as she was pulling the bullet out.

Eventually she did. Then she wrapped my right hand in bandages.

“There, try not to move it as much.” She said as she moved her hands away.

She packed her things up then sat by me.

“So, you got called to Water Mountain. What happened there?” Delilah asked.

“The military came.” I replied.

“Who survived?” Delilah asked.

“Only I did.” I replied.

“Are you sure?” Delilah asked.

“Yes. I saw them die.” I replied.

“What’s left of there?” Delilah questioned.

“Almost nothing. The whole place mostly blew up.” I said.

Delilah seemed like she was listening. But she began to slowly look concerned.

“That must have been a lot to go though.” Delilah commented.

“It was.” I said, holding back my tears.

“You know what? Let’s see if there is still a use we could make of this place. Let’s scavenge.” Delilah suggested.

“Alright.” I said and got up.

I walked away to scavenge. I wiped my tears away.

I looked through the wreckage of WMH. It took a couple hours. I got to the cafeteria. It was partially destroyed. However I found some food and MRE’s.

I went to the sleeping area. It was a bit in ruins. However four beds were untouched. Mine was one of them. I sat on mine and placed my backpack beside it. I wanted to reflect on my memories here but I couldn’t. There was a note on my pillow.

“Adam, I am running away, don’t look for me.

-Zuri”

At least she is alive.

I layed down on my bed.

I got a call from Delilah.

“Adam, come to medical now.” She said and hung up.

I got up from the bed. Then I got my backpack and walked to medical.

As I walked to medical I saw that Delilah was pulling someone from the ruins. I helped by holding up the large metal bar that was on them.

It was Zuri.

Delilah began to do CPR on her for a couple minutes. I could only watch. I didn’t know how to help.

Zuri woke up, gasping for air.

Relief washed over me.

Zuri’s breathing got calmer.

“What happened?” Zuri asked.

“Long story short, Eunice blew up WMH.” Delilah said.

“My goodness.” Zuri commented.

“We are the only survivors.” I revealed.

Zuri didn’t say anything.

“Hungry?” I asked.

“Very much.” Zuri replied.

I opened my back. I took out 3 MRE’s.

We all ate together.

While eating I said to Zuri “I saw your note.”

“Placed it there because Eunice was just being a maniac and killing everyone.” Zuri explained.

We all kept on eating and talking.

After we resumed searching through WMH. I looked through parts of the main building. Mostly in ruins. Some parts I couldn’t even get to.

After a couple hours we finished but night came so we went to the sleeping area.

Before I went to sleep I prayed.

“I didn’t expect to make it out of this day alive but I did. I’m quite shocked by that. I’m also surprised by the fact that two of my good friends are alive. However the others are dead because of Eunice. I hope that they are in heaven. But Heavenly Father please be with us, help us, and protect us. Amen.”

I saw Nicholas. He was just by himself in the mountains. Hunting, eating, and just living.

Reynara: The story itself is great; I really like Aeris, and the setting is also incredibly exciting. The other characters aren't explored very much, though.I had a hard time with the writing style—there are a lot of choppy sentences and repetitions, which makes it hard to read smoothly.
