Old Red Coat
My feet walk an unfamiliar road
Past memories that are not mine to know
And I felt it in the air as time slowed,
The sadness that you feel, now dimming your glow.
You see the past so you forget the now
And when you come back your eyes are changed,
Altered in a single - instant - somehow:
Now filled with grief and rage unexplained.
You are wrapped in mystery and in red,
A knowing look now at home in your eye,
Hair dripping blue like the tears you don’t shed;
There is enough strength within you to try.
I follow you down these paths you traverse,
And realize that loving you is my curse.
