Prologue
Third Person POV.
In the cold depths of North Korea, two sisters named Jieun and Y/N stuck together in a world filled with secrets and fear, controlled by a strict regime, their dreams overshadowed by the powerful Ministry.
Amongst these harsh realities, Y/N found something as though a ray of hope, or rather - someone. She found solace in his laugh, contentment in his words and beauty in his eyes. But when fate revealed its cruel waves, thrashing upon the family in the form of a tangled mess with the Ministry, they had no choice but to leave their homeland behind and embark on a treacherous journey towards freedom.
Crossing the borders and leaving her love behind caused her profound pain, a dark cloud over her newfound freedom. She was engulfed in suffocating darkness, battling haunting depression day and night.
But the problems were far from over. When Y/N’s brother found himself involved directly in an assault case, his defensive mother taking his side, it ignited a fierce conflict within the family. Overwhelmed, she left - left to some place far from the very things that reawoke her trauma each time she laid her eyes on them, each time she heard it whisper her name grimly.
A pocket knife was all she had when she ventured into the unknown with a determined spirit and sought refuge in the shadows and darkness. It was then that the future became clearer to her than it had been for the past years. Now she knew what she had to do from all this time, when fate had been playing with her mercilessly.

First Person POV.
You know what it’s like, wandering away from a path you had been walking on since birth. How the route of a planned future takes over you as if someone had decided what your whole life would be like - all of it since your first breath.
I am Lee Y/n, a not-so-run-off-the-mill girl in her early twenties, living away from the horrifyingly appalling lane of my tampered destiny, having strayed away from it at sixteen. My sweet sixteen, when I first realized “forever” was a hoax, and “unforeseeable” my new personality. How impeccably sweeter than my first encounter with him. He who started it, and I who followed it. The game – the game of pure torture, blood, and death.
Although meeting him felt like an undesired fate that he had forced upon me, I hardly minded it, for I had developed a fierce attraction to the habit of looking down on everyone ever since I sat next to him. It made me feel better, and that was what I wanted.
But the biggest problem was hiding everything from her. It is as simple as lying about a forgotten assignment when you are just starting. Whereas five years later, the realisation of the alarmingly devoted mess you are in starts to sink in when you cannot keep getting away with the regret of your secret identity anymore – even more so when your very sister works for your downfall.
