NUMB

It's cold. So cold my hands and feet have gone numb. And it's dark. So dark I can't see my own hand in front of my face. I don't know where I am. But wherever it is, I hate it. I want to leave. I want to go home. Home... Where is home? Last thing I remember... I can't remember anything. Nothing about my family, or even anything about myself. Not even my own name. How did this happen? Who did this to me? Well, I'll worry about that when I get my memories back. If I get them back. I slowly sit up, and feel around for anything that might be helpful to my case in any way. But all I feel is a cold, smooth surface I presume to be a concrete floor. Suddenly, I feel something move on my face. It's a bag. That explains why I can't see anything. I stop feeling around and reach up to my face. The bag is made of a coarse fabric, like a sack of some sort. I pull the bag off of my face and squint as a dim light illuminates the world around me. I’m in a small warehouse. It’s empty. Bare. Stripped of any signs of life. I look around for an exit of any kind, but find nothing. I sit there for a while, straining my mind for any possible ways to escape this frozen hell. Then, a lightbulb goes off in my head. I’ll have to force my way out.

I stand up and walk to the opposite side of the warehouse and begin knocking on the walls. Bingo. I found a weak spot near the corner of the warehouse. I raise my fists and punch at the walls until my fists bleed. I step back, panting, and take a look at the damage I have done. I’m apparently pretty strong, because I managed to make a decent sized dent in the wall. Because my hands were throbbing and numb from endless jabbing. After a few minutes, I start kicking the dent. An hour passes, and after all that kicking and punching, I had finally made a hole big enough for the average human to fit through. I squeeze my torso through the cavity first, and then clumsily tumble out of the warehouse after getting my legs through. During my time beating up the wall, I have also been studying my own body. I appear to be a young male, about 14 years of age. I’m also kind of tall, standing at about 5’6.

As I brush off myself, I look at my surroundings. I’m in a tundra type environment, which means it’s cold out here as well. There is also what seems to be an endless amount of pine trees stretching as far as the eye can see. The sun seems to be setting. I stand up, gather my thoughts, and wander around the forest for a bit, pine needles crunching under my feet. As soon as twilight comes, I’m already back at the warehouse, leaning my numb body on the metal outer wall. Suddenly, I hear something I know even with my memory lost, I haven’t heard in what seems like eternity. A human voice.
