Murder In the Graveyard

The Year was 1961 and Me and my partner were finishing up a report of a Muder within a museum when we heard over the radio That Benjamin Jones and Michael Simmons had broken out of a New York prison and heading to North Chicago if anyone one sees them to call the police as soon as possible. I stranded up and turned it off and I said, “most likely We are going to Hunt him down or we are going to get a hotshot of a murder”. I laughed as the Hot shot phone rang. Robbins said “Ok that was creepy how you said that as soon as the phone rang” I laughed then walked over and I picked up the phone and I wrote down what I heard. Then I said “Robbins grab your Hat. A priest called in that he Might have seen Jones in the graveyard”. We went downstairs and I said, "meet me in the car I am going to grab a shotgun". Robbins said “Ok” He walked away as I walked into the station armory and grabbed an Ithaca shotgun with 5 rounds of buckshot, and I walked out and joined Robbins in the car, and we rolled to the Graveyard code 3 lights and sirens. When we got there, we met with Father Hawkins, and he pointed us to the graveyard, and we could see a man crouching over a gravestone. We walked over to the man and said hands up. He was staying crochet, so Robbins grabbed man’s shoulder and he fell to the ground, and we saw that he was bleeding from the back of the head and Robbins checked his pulse and he nodded, and I asked if he had a wallet and Robbins checked his pockets and he said “Yeah” he then handed me the wallet and I saw the Id of Benjamin Jones. I said "we found jones." than I said to wait here I will call it” and I walked back to our car and put the shotgun in the truck and called in that we had a Murder at our location to send the forensics team and the coroner to City Hope church. Other police cars came to the church and me and Robbins went into the church and we wanted to ask Father Hawkins what he saw before we got there. Hawkins said “that the man he thought was Jones was the only Person in the graveyard. but there was a car in the parking lot” I asked if he was sure and he nodded his head and I said when we got there wasn’t a car in the parking lot” he said “I do not know if this would help but I only remember the first few letters on the license plate and the. I wrote it down” He handed me a piece of paper and on it was ark. I said Thank you and we walked outside and and someone yelled for us to come here and we walked over and we walked up to mason one of the forensics team member said Looks like he was hit in the back of the head with a Rock. he showed us a rock with blood on it and said we got a print off it as he was saying it the coroner was walking by with the body and i asked him what is his cause of death? He said blood forced trauma to the head. I asked if a rock could be a murder weapon and he said Maybe it and the mason showed him the rock and he said it could be it but I won’t know until I get him on the table. We walked back to the tombstone and we noticed that the name on it was Wanda Jones Loving wife and daughter. As we walked back to our car we saw Father Hawkins outside and we walked over and asked does Wanda Jones or Benjamin Jones mean anything for him. he said “yes they were married here in 46 and she died about a week after her husband left for new york and he haven’t seen him until he heard over the radio that Benjamin Jones broke out of Jail”. We thanked him when we got back to our call to be on the lookout for any cars with a license plate of alpha, romeo and Kilo to contact King-58. As we drove back we saw many cars but we didn’t see a car with it. When we pulled into the station the chief called us to join him in his office. We said Ok as we walked in and the police chief said “So Benjamin Jones was Murdered in our backyard. have we called the New York police yet?”. I said No but we were about to do that before he called us in to join him in his office and he said “Ok” and handed us a piece of paper and Robbins asked “what’s this for the chief” and he said “I want you to contact the detectives up in new york”. Both if us nodded our heads and We walks out and I picked up the phone called the number on the phone and a man answer the phone and said “this detective austin how can I help you” and I said hello this is detective Ryder with the Illinois police department and We found Benjamin Jones down here” and he said “ah thank you detective where can we go to pick him up?” and I said “he’s in the morgue as we speak”. He asked how it happened and I said ”it looks like he was killed with a rock to the back of his head”. He said “ah Ok what about Michael Simmons” and I said “we didn’t find him” then Austin said “that they stole a Red Chevrolet Fleetline Aerosedan with a license plate of Bravo, november oscar 5”. I said “that could be the car that was spotted but I got a license plate of alpha, romeo and Kilo with unknown numbers”. he said “we don’t have any license plates that were stolen″ then he asked “why was he in our neck of the neighborhood”. I said “his wife passed a few years ago before he when to new york and he said “he didn’t know he was married. he was arrested for Murder of a man in bar during a bar fight and he was about 2 weeks before he would he been executed but Jones keep on saying I have to do something before i die but he never said that what it was but on the Night of the break out a guard thought he heard Benjamin say wanda… I am coming my dear and then when morning came Him and Michael Simmons they left a guard knocked out”. Then I asked “was there anything in Benjamin’s cell and what was Michael Simmons in jail for?” and he said Simmons stole a purse and his court trial was set for today. I sat back then asked two things: What was the the man’s name that Benjamin killed during that bar fight and what did Michael do before he was sent to jail. When he told me it hit me. I said “thank you and we will have Michael by next friday but I think he will be staying with us”. He said “why is that?” And I said Just read the papers on Friday, then I hung up the phone, then I made a few phone calls. Robbins asked “Ok Ryder do you know where he is” and I said yes and I know how he got that and I think we should get a call hopefully before friday morning he laugh than The phone rang Robbins said “stop predictions when the phone goes off and tell me who is going to win the horse races next week” I Laughed then picked it up then I said thank you than I said That was faster than I thought than I standed up and grabbed my hat and said are you coming and he stood up and walked with me to our car and we drove to Junk Bunker on the northside of town when we got there we parked our car and we walked in and I start to ask around where was Luke Beckett one guy said he is in the boss’s office and pointed us to it and we walked there and Robbins asked why are we looking for this Luke Becket guy? And I said all in good time when we got there I said wait here and cover me as i walked up to the door and knocked on the door an a man with a long beard said Who are you and i said detective Ryder and I’m looking for Luke Beckett and he said Um Ok and yelled for him to come to the door as soon as he saw me I grabbed his arm and arrest him and saying Luke Beckett you’re under arrest for the Muder of Benjamin Jones and he said nothing as we walked out and Robbins asked “Luke Beckett is our guy and what about Michael Simmons” and i said “This is Michael Simmons″, both of them were shocked when i said it when as we were walking back Beckett asked “how did i know i was Michael Simmons?” And I said “when your in new york you were working in a junkyard and most likely you would pick the only thing you know”. he laugh than said “Do you Know why I killed him” and I said “Yes” that he said nothing when we put him in our car and drove back to the station Robbins asked “where was the car than ryder” than I said “most likely it was scrapped” but he said “car what car?” but I said “it’s no longer need for your case” and when we got to the station we walked in and we took him to interrogation room and robbins turn the tape on and Simmons said “yes I Killed Benjamin Jones because what he did to my father” and I said “yes he killed your father in that bar fight and when you were arrested and you were sent to the same prison as the man who killed your father” he nodded his head when then said “it was his idea to escape he wanted to go see his wife’s grave before he was executed. He stepped out of the car. I saw the window open than close I knew this would be my last chance so I got out of the car grab a rock and walked up to Benjamin as he was kneeling and he leaned in and kissed the grave than prayed then I said this is for my father than I Hit him in the back of the head with the rock he stayed there praying it only took the fist hit to Kill the Him and I ran back to the car and drove out of there and I knew that he was now dead and my father has been revenged” and I said “you forgot one thing” and Simmons asked “what’s that” and I said “Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves”. He Looked up at me and he smiled. I said to Simmons. “that he was under arrest for the Murder of Benjamin Jones and Breaking Out of Jail.” then We took him to booking and on Friday the thirteenth 1961 he was found to be insane and was sent to Psychiatric hospital. After a year there he escaped and he’s still on the run at this time his tail has gone cold. Maybe one day we will meet again.The End?
