A Heartbreaking and Beautifully Written Story
"This book was absolutely incredible. The writing is beautiful—full of creativity, imagination, and vivid detail. I was hooked from the very beginning, completely captivated by the world and the characters. What stood out the most to me was the connection between the main characters and how their relationship grew throughout the story. It felt authentic, emotional, and deeply moving. I went through so many emotions while reading, and by the end, I was in tears. I don’t often cry over books, but this one broke my heart in the best way because I was so invested in the characters. The ending was powerful, though I do wish there had been a little more—maybe a fast-forward thousands of years later where she enters the afterlife and they could reunite. Still, even with the ache it left me with, it was a fitting and unforgettable conclusion. Overall, this story is one that will stick with me for a long time."

"This story of two people, Meira and Laith, falling in love, and their journey trying to come to terms with their own personal forces of destruction, is written beautifully. Sooooo good, and funny at times, but it was also soooo sad and heartbreaking 😢 I got so lost in this story, riding all the emotions ALL. THE. TIME! S.J Brand is really incredibly talented in this way: taking us from highs to lows and back again, effortlessly. What stood out for me, was the descriptions of the characters' emotions and experiences - absolutely gripping. After Laith reveals: "it's only since meeting Meira that I truly know the meaning of being alive..." my heart was so breaking for not only Laith, but also for Meira. Heck, it was gut-wrenching reading about Laith and Meira's struggles, and their continuous grappling with conflicting emotions in a pervading "darkness". And while this "darkness" is at work all the time, trying to destroy her life, Meira soldiers on, keeping on working towards finding the reason she is (as one reader commented 👊) "a darkness Trojan-horse". Speaking of comments: never have I ever experienced readers being so invested in a story 😄 And the writer partaking with such enthusiasm ... Just 🖤 The story-line and plot - it all seems so natural and effortless. And again: such vivid descriptions! The experience of reading this, feels like watching a film! I can go on and on. The characters' interaction is superb. Brand really does not rush the character development. I can see that the growth of the relationships between the characters is important to her, and that she loves crafting deep emotional connections between them. This story should have many more likes. Brand is an amazing story-teller. She brings this refreshing and fascinating world, where all sorts of creatures live and love, beautifully to life. I recommend 100%. "

"Almost 1100 pages and it’s still not enough. A definite 6* story with almost everything - drama, romance, love, grief, humour and hope. It leaves itself open to a sequel but actually even though the ending is what none of us wanted, it works 🤷♀️ The story never dragged and was incredibly hard to put down when real life stuck its ugly head above the parapet. It is one of those books that you want to rush to finish but really don’t want it to end…..EVER. Great writing and imagination as always "

"This book will ruin all other books for you. Read it and have your heart broken and fused back together and then stomped on and nursed back to health and repeat. But you will be grateful! FMC character’s arc from beginning to end is strong in relation to her love for those she cares about. I cannot even form proper thoughts right now this book as a whole has wreaked me. Amazing. Will recommend to everyone and you can be I will be putting on my bookshelf as soon as that’s an option. Wow. Wish I could write a proper review but my mind is still spinning. LOVE LOVE LOVE. Mind blown. Didn’t see any of it coming."
