It All Begins With Jane

Jane just turned twenty-one, while working in the mines the new owner fired several people who had been working there for several years. As Jane made her way home it started to rain. She knew it was going to be a long night if the rain didn’t let up anytime soon. Finally, she makes it home to find her mother Allena cleaning in the kitchen.

Turning around Allena asks, “Jane my dear what are you doing home so early?”

“I got fired from the mines,” Jane replies, “as did several others. The new owner didn’t like our working style.”

“Not to worry about it, tomorrow we shall head to the market place to find you another job.”

She smiles at her mother saying, "thank you mother."

Jane then helps her clean the rest of the house. As they were cleaning a knock at the door stops them suddenly. Allena goes to answer the door, standing there was a man who looked slightly worried that someone might have seen him entering the house. Allena offers him a seat and tells Jane to grab the man something to drink.

Jane enters the kitchen, upon entering the kitchen she sees someone standing there. Smiling at Jane this person disappears, leaving her to wonder who they were and why they had come to her house.

Once she makes it back into the living room where Jane looked at them wondering why he was there.

Allena looks up towards Jane and smiles, “Ah thank you my dear. Now I want you to go buy something nice for yourself.”

She hands Jane some money and turns back to the man.

“I know what’s going on here mother,” Jane said, “when are you going to tell father about it.”

The man looked at Jane and saying, “she’s not cheating on him if that’s what you mean.”

“I know you come from her world,” Jane mutters, “if you don’t tell father about it then I will.”

Allena stands up walking over to her and hugs her whispering, “please don’t tell John about this.”

As they were talking they became quite for a few moments then, a scream pierces the silence. At that time everyone runs outside to find a wolf eating a small dog. Several men grabbed their guns and shoots at the wolf, but all it did was make it angrier.

So it went after the closest thing to it, which was a small child. Jane runs towards the child, where she gets bit instead. The wolf dies because John shoots it in the heart, and Jane falls in pain. The mother of the child rushes up and touches Jane’s leg healing it.

“Thank you” Jane said.

“No need to thank me,” the woman replies, “it’s the least I can do for the person who saved my child.”

“I never thought about it until now,” Jane says, “but this town is different than the traders who come here every year.”

The man who was with John walks over and helps Jane up off the ground. The child hugs Jane tightly, then runs off to play with the other children. As Jane starts to walk off, he calls after her saying, “Miss I need to talk with you.”

Jane turns towards him and says, “can I help you sir.”

“My name is Kane and I own the mines that you use to work at,” Kane said, “I need your help with a project that my son just started today.”

“Why should I help you?” Jane asked.

“You help me, and I’ll hire everyone back” Kane replies.

“Alright I’ll help, but it’s not because you asked me to help, it’s because I love working at the mines.”

Jane walked back home to grab some food that she could eat later. She starts walking to the mines when two guards stop her asking about what happened earlier. All Jane told them was she saved a child and that was all they needed to know. She walks off and when she got to the mines she finds her equipment already out and waiting. She starts to work when a boy walks up and says hello.

“Oh, hello. My name’s Jane. Who are you?”

“My name’s Aden,” he replies, “I’m Kane's son.”

They went to work on the job that they needed to get done. After three hours went by they found started to find strange things. They looked at each other wondering what these strange gems were. As they continued to work they didn’t find anything else, until a portal opened up right in front of them.

“What’s going on here?”

“How should I know. I'm not even suppose to be working right now."

Right then they were pulled into the portal into complete darkness. They tried to hold on to each other’s hand, but they were ripped away from each other, into different directions.

Jane wakes up to someone yelling at her, "don't let them see you laying there or you'll be killed."

Jane slowly gets up looking around wondering where Aden was, then she looks at the person in front of her.

The woman looks down at Jane wondering who she was and why she was here.

“Come on we need to go now,” she says to Jane, “Name’s Kena. You remind me of someone that was here before. Are you Allena?"

"No Allena is my mother. I'm Jane."

Jane was then lead to a house where she finds several people sitting there. They were planning an attack against Aramond. They looked up from the maps wondering why Kena was home early and why she brought someone home with her.

“Welcome home my dear sister,” Amond says, turning to Jane he asks, “and who are you?”

“Don’t worry about her brother” Kena replies, grabbing Jane’s arm leading her upstairs.

Once upstairs Kena finds Jane a blue dress for her to wear. Putting on the dress Kena smiled at Jane wondering if she'd been here before this day.

Once downstairs they entered the kitchen and Amond looks up at Jane and he knew who she was. Kena tells them that they were going to the market to get food. On their way to the market they find several guards on duty. The guards didn’t stop them to ask about anything. Kena wonders why they weren’t stopped but continued without a second thought about it.

She told Jane that they needed supplies for the winter and if she could find any meat to let her know so they could buy it. Jane nods and then she sees someone in the shadows who was watching them but didn’t say anything to Kena. They then bought fruits and vegetables along with some deer meat. On their way back to the house that man who Jane saw walks up to them.

He grabbed Jane’s arm and told them to wait a moment. Four guards dragged out Amond and Joseph from the house and walk towards the docks. The man lets go of the girls and they ran towards the house to save Adumis and Jacq before the roof collapsed. Once everyone was safe he looked them over.

“Hello, my name’s Bolgar.”

“Thank you for helping us” Kena replied.

Jane looks at Bolgar wondering what was going on. He looked at Jane and just nodded at her, then Jane walks over to Jacq asking what had happened.

“They found out about the plans against Aramond” Jacq rasped.

“This isn’t good,” Bolgar replied, “we must move now before they come back to finish the job.”

“Why should we believe you or listen to you,” Jane asked, “I don’t know if we can trust you.”

“Look Miss I’m the only help that will be here for you,” Bolgar says, “If you don’t trust me now you will all die.”

Jane looked at him wondering what was happening. She turns to Kena who nods and give a sad smile to Jane.

“Very well I’ll only trust you for now,” Jane says, “but give me one reason not to trust you and I’ll kill you.”

Bolgar nods at her then looks to Kena saying grab anything you need and we must leave now. Kena runs over to the stables grabbing the horses. As they left the rest of the house collapses.

They made their way towards the docks where they found people throwing stuff at someone. Bolgar grabs Joseph and helped him down, then several guards come running up to them yelling. Right then someone grabs Joseph from Bolgar and told him that he would take care of them.

Bolgar nods at the man, then he goes after the guards. Jane and Kena grab Jacq and Adumis running towards the ship docked. Once everyone was on board the captain shouted orders to leave port. Jane looked around realizing that her father had built this ship.

“Welcome aboard, I am Jeren and this is my first mate Polaru.”

“Thank you, sir,” Joseph replied, “who was that man helping us?”

“That was Bolgar” Jane answered, still looking around.

“Did you say Bolgar” Jeren asked, staring at Jane.

“Yes, I did,” Jane replies turning towards them finally, “why do you ask?”

“If he’s around then the others will be here soon” Jeren said.

“The others.... Captain?” Polaru asked.

“Don’t worry about that right now Polaru” Jeren replied.

“Yes captain,” Polaru answered, “let’s get you all into your cabins before night fall.”

Perplex at this Jane looks at Jeren and asks, “why do we need to be in our cabins before night fall?”

Jeren steps forwards and says, “you best not ask questions you don’t want to know that answers to my dear little lady. Now off with the lot of you so we can get to our jobs. Polaru make sure they are nice and safe for the night and the whole trip.”

Polaru leads them down a long corridor where there were many cabins. He places them into two different rooms. Once inside Jane lays down falling asleep while Kena stayed awake a bit longer thinking about what Jeren had said to them before that deputy took them down to their rooms.

Finally sleep takes Kena and when she woke, Jane was nowhere to be found. Kena goes up on deck where she finds Joseph and Jeren looking over several maps. Jane was walking around the ship when she spotted Kena walking towards her. When Jane finally reaches her, Kena asked her several questions about what’s going on.

“I’m not sure about what’s happening,” Jane said, “maybe you should ask Jeren.”

“I think I will go ask,” Kena replied, “because I need to know what’s going on.”

They walked towards them, but as those two looked up from the maps Jeren puts them away quickly. Jeren smiles at them and asked them what they were up to.

“I was wondering what was going on” Kena said.

“We can’t tell you that” Jeren replied.

“Oh, you will cause I saw you yesterday at my mother’s house” Jane said.

“That was you with Allena” Jeren asked.

“Yes, that was me” Jane replied.

Kena and Joseph looked at each other wondering what was going on but got no answer because Jeren grabbed Jane’s arm leading her away. When they arrived topside they found Polaru giving orders to make port.
