Prologue
Yuki opens her eyes, finding herself laying on Zane. Trying not to wake him she gets up. The rain fall has gotten heavier since last night. Walking into the tiny little bathroom she grabs a bottle of three in one combo of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. She gets dressed, and grabs a bag containing her cloths, and puts on her jacket. Dropping the bottle into the bag she opens the door and steps out, shutting it behind herself. She walks into the tree line. Though it does little to keep her from getting soaked. It’s a two minute walk before she reaches the public showers. Heading in she finds it to be empty. Normal during the rainy season.
As she starts the shower water she finds it to be luke warm boarding on cold. What makes it kinda creepy is that the light in the shower room is dim. Though its probably from neglect rather than anything strange. At least that what she was believing until she hears the door to the showers shut out of nowhere. Half a dozen scenarios run through her head, but she focuses on washing her body.
While washing she begins to hum a melody. It’s an ancient song from the language of the First Vampires, Caiy Oteyr, which translates to Great Unity. It’s a song of hope for the day turned bloods and humans can openly coexist without relying on groups like the Sunsets or the Seekers for protection. Before and even after being turned, Yuki agreed with Zeke’s point of view regarding the Seekers Hunting Division. But its her belief that he sees the hunting division as only going after turned blood monsters. But that is far from true. Sure the SHD goes after turned bloods, but the mandate of the division is to only go after the ones killing people, and even then it depends on the circumstances. But as hunters like Max and Izume have proven on more than one occasion, the SHD also goes after spirits, demons, and a wide variety of supernatural threats.
In a way she envies that Max and Izume have the kind of dynamic that allows them to have a single home to return to. But if that were the case she and Zane would be confined to returning to a single location. All her life she’s always been on the move. With her parents, the day she ran away from him, to the day she joined the Sunset Movement, and after leaving when she was turned.
The light outside her stall begins to rapidly flicker. The air becomes almost icy cold. The succubus remains still, the water running over her body. Sure she could reach for the dagger in the back pocket of her pants, but if its just another camper they could think she’s crazy.
“Morru?” She asks quietly.
Rather than an answer she hears the sounds of footsteps approaching her stall. Fight or flight takes over and she quickly reaches for the dagger in her pants pocket. With wide eyes she stands there waiting for her attacker to make a move. What freaks her out more is that no attack comes. She looks through the small opening and finds herself looking at a pale blue crescent moon marking on the forehead of a woman.
The light goes out. Her heart begins to race when she locks eyes with the person in the room. Looking through the tiny opening in the curtain, the only thing separating the two, Yuki finds that the person in the room is a woman in a black cloak, with matching pale blue glowing eyes. What presumably are her blood veins glow a more defined blue which is visible through her skin.
“Voqoso dugat.” The woman answers, a vague Russian accent in her voice.
They are coming? What does that even mean? Who is coming? More importantly, why, and why approach her instead of Zane?
With a concerned tone of voice Yuki asks. “Muaz dugat?”
“Uto mavo noot hrogo uzos mosoqo.” The woman answers.
One with a green flame over her eye? That doesn’t help at all. Though it does reduce the list to liches. Since their the only known humans with a natural affinity for an extremely rare form of Ethereal Essence.
“Who are you?” The succubus asks, shutting off the water and opening the curtain.
To her surprise when she does the light comes back on and no ones there. Quickly closing the curtain she dries herself off with the towel she brought with her. Creepy ghost chick aside, she’s hoping to hit the road early. It’s still pretty dark out. She got here using her enhanced vision. Quickly getting dressed and putting her jacket on she heads for the door. When she pulls on it the door doesn’t budge. Again the light flickers.
“Run while you can. She is not known for her mercy to Seekers.” The voice of the woman whispers... in her right ear.
With that being way too close for comfort the succubus swings to her right. She looks around the room as the light flickers. Again she pulls at the door handle. This time it opens. She’s greeted to a woman with a glowing yellow mark in the form of the sun, with her eyes and veins having a matching glow.
The woman gives her an apologetic look, but says. “We intend you no harm. But you must go. Lest you join Leo Darkstar in a fate that will have you longing for death.”
“Who are you?” Yuki asks, this time using a more demanding tone.
Rather than giving a straight answer, the woman says. “Who we are isn’t as important as the messages we deliver to those in the here and now. You must go or she will hunt you down, torture you, and send you to a place where you’ll beg for the sweet release of death.”
