Silvermoon's Request

Sasha Hemming sidestepped an incoming punch. Her body moved with a rhythmic grace, as if it was a river winding through the countryside. She quickly executed a backflip, feeling the rush of wind as she narrowly missed the sweeping kick from her best friend, Lee Ji-a, aka Jia.

Sasha spun out of the way as Jia rushed at her with her fist raised. She did a roundhouse kick, her heel landing on Jia’s back.

The kick threw Jia off balance. She coughed as she tried to catch her breath. Her reflexes took over, and she rolled to the side as she heard her best friend’s foot land just inches from her. She jumped to her feet, her hands up in defense as she watched her Alpha’s movements.

They circled each other, the air between them charged with anticipation. Both fighters were intensely studying the other, searching for any vulnerability or advantage. Their skin was slick with sweat, the sheen glinting in the sunlight. They had been sparring for hours.

Some of the pack warriors had formed a circle around the two women. Their exciting cheers were loud as they watched their Alpha and Beta spar.

Jia faked a jab with her right hand and swung an uppercut under Sasha’s chin with her left. Jia took the open opportunity to send a kick into Sasha’s stomach.

Sasha doubled over, gasping for air as the wind was knocked out of her. She managed to dive out of the way at the last second as Jia’s foot flew towards her head.

“Why do I feel like you’re holding back?” asked Jia. She continued to circle her Alpha, waiting for another opening to strike.

Sasha rolled her eyes as she took in her best friend’s five foot eight inches figure. She was two inches taller than Jia. She and her best friend were twinning with their coordinated black sports bras and biker tights. “If I don’t hold back, you’ll be in the hospital. I can’t afford to have my Beta out of commission just because of training.”

Jia’s eyes sparkled with mischievous delight as the corners of her mouth upturned into a smirk. “Oh my, can’t live without me, or are you scared, Alpha?”

Sasha moved with a grace and speed that Jia could barely keep up with. Her fist collided with Jia’s cheekbone with a force that sent her flying. She uttered a curse under her breath as she realized her mistake. Her lycan’s growl was one of satisfactory.

Jia’s body fell with a thud. She clenched her teeth and moaned softly as she attempted to lift herself up. “Yeah, this calls for a hot bath.”

Her mate, Aladdin Campbell, rushed to her side. “Are you okay, Love?” His eyes roamed her body, checking for injuries. His eyes filled with worry.

Jia coughed while taking her mate’s outstretched hand. “I’m fine. You worry too much. She didn’t use her full strength on me.”

“You should know better than to taunt the Alpha,” Aladdin chastised as he lifted his mate into his arms.

“She’s my best friend. I can get away with a little taunting. I know better than to be disrespectful.” Jia tenderly pulled his neck down so she could press her lips to his cheek.

Sasha made her way over to the two lovebirds. Her eyes held worry as she searched her best friend’s body for injuries. Aside from the red bruise on Jia’s cheek, her body looked unharmed.

Jia groaned in annoyance and rolled her eyes. “I’m fine. You guys worry too much.”

“Rest up and then meet me in my office in the next hour or two,” said Sasha. She scanned her Beta’s figure once more before walking away.

The warriors dispersed at the wave of their Alpha’s hand. With beaming grins, they walked home after a long day of training.

After taking a long, warm bath. Sasha got dressed in a comfortable black jeans and a snug black crop top, pairing it with her favorite studded combat boots.

She went to her office to sort out documents she had received. While she was signing off on forms, her cell phone started to ring. She averted her eyes from the paper in her hand and looked at her Samsung galaxy S10 screen. Her brows furrowed as she carefully tapped her finger on the screen to accept the call.

“Good evening, Alpha Hemming. How are you?” greeted Alpha Donny Chin. The forty-year-old Alpha of Silvermoon Pack.

“Good evening, Alpha Chin. I’m doing okay and yourself? What can I help you with?” Sasha replied.

Her gaze shot up at the sound of a gentle rapping on her door. Jia’s familiar scent wafted through the air. She opened up the mind-link between her and Jia. “You can enter. I’m on the phone with Alpha Chin.”

Jia entered the room quietly and took a seat on one of the couches in front of Sasha’s desk. She was sporting dark blue ripped jeans and a black T-shirt. A pair of Nike sneakers adorned her feet. She relaxed into the couch as she waited for her Alpha’s instructions.

“I’m okay, could be better. We need your assistance with dealing with some rogues,” answered Alpha Chin.

Sasha’s eyebrows rose sharply in response to his request. “How many?”

“Too many for my small pack to handle. We don’t have as many warriors as the big packs and we’ve gotten some serious injuries since the attacks began.”

Sasha’s eyebrows furrowed together as she pondered the situation. “Are you telling me the rogues are attacking in huge groups?” There was a disbelieving edge to her voice.

Jia’s brows rose and her eyes widened as she listened to the conversation between the two alphas.

“It seems like it. They’ve attacked us twice this week. Their numbers range between twenty and thirty. I don’t know how much longer my warriors can hold out before they wipe out my Silvermoon Pack completely,” said Alpha Chin.

Sasha’s face contorted, her jaw tightening, and nostrils flaring. Her normal ice-blue eyes glowed brightly with rage. “We’ll be there by midnight.”

“Thank you, Alpha Hemming. I owe you one.”

“Don’t mention it. We’re allies, plus you and my parents were great friends,” replied Sasha through clenched teeth.

“I’ll let my patrols know to look out for your group.”

“I’ll call you when we’re close by.”

“Thanks again, Alpha Hemming. Bye!”

“Bye, Alpha Chin.” Sasha released the growl she was holding back. “What could possibly cause those mutts to make a move now?” She couldn’t fathom why the rogues decided to form groups and attack packs now.

Jia leaned forward on the couch. “How many do you want me to take there?” She was the leader on missions whenever other packs requested their help.

Sasha stared at her best friend, her eyes no longer glowing. Her lycan had finally calmed down. “I’m joining in the fun this trip. So you and twenty-nine other warriors. Two of our elite trackers.”

Jia’s mouth gaped open in surprise as her eyes bulged in astonishment. “You’re coming? You sure that’s a good idea? Don’t get me wrong, but it’s been a while since we went on missions together.”

Sasha leaned back into her chair with her hand rubbing her chin. “Yeah, my lycan is urging me to go.”

“That’s new. Well, if you’re sure. I’ll go get the team ready.” Jia got up from the couch.

“Thanks, Jia.”

“No problem, Alpha. I’m just doing my job.” Jia left the room after bowing to Sasha.

Sasha lowered the wall in her mind. “Neza, come to my office.” She put back up her wall before her Gamma could answer.
