Prologue - Erik
An older woman started to cry out. "Bring me back my grandbaby!" As he ran with his brother's hand in his. Poor lady, her grandson's dead. Now before anyone freakout they must hear the story. She thinks his brother is her grandson. He's not. Her grandson, goddess bless his soul, was sacrificed to save his brother.
It will be easier to explain it from the beginning. Oh and before it's forgotten. The boy currently running with his brother deep into the forest. His name is Erik, Prince of Magick island. He is only 13 years old. Ajex will be 8 tomorrow. Now for the story.
The witch religion was the first religion made. There was one person who decided to make another religion and Magick became discouraged and seen as evil or unholy. They needed a place where they could practice their religion peacefully and be out of harm's way. There was an island that was found not that far from the Bahamas that had not been discovered yet by other humans. The reason it was left that way was because the first Queen put an illusion spell on it. A spell that caused any who sailed near it to see nothing but ocean.
Erik's mom, the queen, is like the hundredth generation. She was a kind woman in they eyes of the king. That had made him fall for her in the first place. When they were ready for children she decided she only wanted to give birth to one boy and one girl. When Ajex was born she was furious. She had never let the king see the rage behind her eyes at the birth of a other boy but it was definitely visible by others in the kingdom.
She wanted to end his brother's life. Something only someone heartless could even think of doing to a child. The lack of love for the baby was clear in the women's eyes when they landed upon Ajex for the first time but for the untrained eye it would be seen as worry for the newborn baby in her arms. Little Erik was only a little kid at the time, barely even five years old but something didn't sit right with him and he had stayed by his brother's side any chance that he got. His mom of course would baby him when he was around and not give Ajex any attention. Or if she did give him attention it was mostly to tell and curse at the poor baby.
One of the maids had ended up having to take care of Ajex to make sure he was actually getting fed and changed properly. His mom refused to take care of the poor boy and due to Erik's being the king he was busy most of the time keeping the piece so he wasn't around to see the difference in behavior between him and his brother, but he saw it. It upset him that Ajex was being treated differently.
He would ask his mom why she wouldn't play with his brother. She had even restricted him from being near the baby at some point where he would have to sneak in to see him. One night he was sleeping when Erik saw a vision. A common thing for his family to develop every couple of centuries. It had been his first one and it was scary. He saw his mom standing his baby brother with absolute hatred in her eyes.
She was holding a pillow over Ajex's head as he cried. Erik could hear the muffling sounds of him crying out for help. Unable to speak or truly ask for help, helpless under their mother's hands. It took no time at all before the cries silenced and the pillow was removed from his face. His brother's lips were blue and it looked like he wasn't breathing at all.
It woke Erik up with a start. Something told him that he needed to get her as far away from their mother as possible. He ended up telling one of the soldiers that had been training me about his vision and he made a suggestion to help. The soldier told him to switch his brother for a human boy off of the island and to come back for him when he was older. The soldier even offered to help. If the vision came true it wouldn't be his brother and if it didn't it would be simple just to switch them back.
He also promised Erik that he would keep what was going on a secret from the king and the rest of the castle. Erik didn't know why he didn't want to say anything at the time but now that he's gotten older he understand more what kind of risk that would have. If she was willing to murdered a baby. What would she be capable of when she learned her baby was still alive because of her son who knew what she did and could tell anyone at any moment.
Well the night of his vision happened two nights after he had made the switch. The choice of course hadn't been easy for him to make. He had just been a little kid himself having to choose between the life of his brother or someone else's kid. The decision still haunted him. Especially after his father had walked out of the nursery with tears streaming down his face. His mom had lied and said she didn't know how it happened but the vision still haunted his dreams. He had wanted to speak up so bad but all he could do was cry over the loss of the baby who would never see his family again.
Now here he was running with his brother toward the middle of the forest and hopefully away from prying eyes. He could hear the angry yelling of the villagers and the sounds of guns being loaded and he knew he had to hurry their pace. He was worried about how his brother was doing and looked at him. He seemed scared, his wavy brown hair flopping over his ears as he ran in his pajama bottoms.
Luckily he knew him but for Ajex's safety he just thought he was a friend of his. He was taking Ajex back to the island so he could learn in a more proper environment for a while. His friend and their family had agreed to take care of his brother until the time truly came to reveal him to his parents. He knew it was going to be a hard hit for him and his father. His mother was another story. He was going to make sure she suffered for everything his family had been put through.
A shot rang out and he felt a sharp pain in his lower leg causing him to drop to the ground and cry out in pain. His brother immediately looked over him in concern and fear before looking back towards the angry, approaching villagers. Erik knew he didn't have much time left. They had to leave now, whether the humans saw it or not. He takes the hat off his head and throws it toward the ground reciting a quick spell.
The hat grew to be almost as big as the trees. He takes his brother's hand and pulls her toward the hat. "Go, I'll be there in a moment." He says to Ajex gritting his teeth in pain his voice was still high having not even gone through puberty yet. Black dots were dancing in his vision and he knew he didn't have long before it would take over completely. What he hasn't accounted for was his brother helping him up and trying to get them both to the hat.
He tries to push Ajex to the hat so he could be in it and safe but he was being stubborn with nothing but concern written across his features. A look that should never be on an eight year olds face. He sighs softly and places a hand in his hair before he follows, trying his best not to lean all his weight on Ajex as he limps to the large hat, as the villagers are fast approaching.
Something furry suddenly runs into the hat just as they step in and the door closes sealing them inside and protecting them from the villagers. The hat was actually a fancy portal to get to the island. All he has to do is recite a spell taught to him by the soldier.
He collapsed onto the ground as soon as he feels the hat shift. It would be mere moments before he would be at the spot to meet up with the soldier. Whether he stayed conscious that long was up for debate. His eyes struggled to stay open as he looked at Ajex with a small smile before everything went black
