Chapter 1

Kia Speedily walks down the halls, gripping her binder full of papers tightly to her chest. Her heart is pounding in her chest in anticipation as she hurriedly scuttles to her boss's office. Today is the day she takes the book idea she's written to her boss. She works with a newspaper company writing short stories for the back of the newspaper. She's never seen her boss since she took on the job at the company a couple of years ago.

Now, she isn't looking for her boss to be the one to publish it because she can't post it anyway, but she at least wants to know whether her boss thinks it's a good idea or not to get it published. She figures if her boss likes it, there's a big possibility that she'll have no problem getting it published.

Her side bag that has her computer in it thumps against her as she rushes past people, dodging so she doesn't run into anyone. A voice startles her, causing her to stumble. She knew who it was, and that caused her cheeks to heat up. "Whoa! Slow down, speedster. Where's the fire?" The light, humorous voice teasingly asks.

Kia quickly regains her balance and turns to the person she has a crush on. There's a smirk on her face as she watches Kia become nervous like she always does around her, well, really anyone. She tugs on the sleeves of her leather jacket, pushing them back to her elbows as she crosses her arms in a relaxed position. Kia tries to come herself. "I-I was just going to see the b-boss." She says, her blush deepening in embarrassment as she stutters.

Kia watches as the green eyes that always entrap her in their gaze light up. "That's right. I heard from the guy that sits next to you, Jeffrey. You'll ask the boss what she thinks of the book you've written today, right?" She asks, her voice showing excitement.

Kia nods. "Y-yeah. I'm hoping that she'll like it." She says, shifting her binders as her arms start to feel tired. Her grip slips, and her binder falls out of her hands, her papers spilling everywhere. Her eyes widen, and she drops to her knees, quickly scooping up the papers, extremely grateful that she made sure to number to number all of them. A leather sleeve with several documents appears as she picks up the papers.

She looks up and grabs the papers gratefully. She quickly starts sorting her papers, getting them back in order. She stuffs them back in her binder hurriedly, some of the documents crumpling as she closes the binder, scooping it up in her arms and holding it close to her chest. She had the binder in one hand and checked the time; she cursed under her breath, seeing that it was almost the end of her boss's shift before the assistant took over for the rest of the day. If she doesn't get there now, she will miss her chance. She gets to her feet and mumbles a thank you before rushing to her boss's office, leaving the leather girl kneeling on the ground.

The girl in her leather jacket shakes her head, getting to her feet. "Hey, Sam! We need you in here, girl!" A voice shouts from James' office. She sighs, groaning internally, knowing James has yet again broken that damn printer. How often do I tell him that he can't just shove papers in the stupid printer if it doesn't print right away? She thinks as she walks back into the office, shaking her head and walking away from the sprinting Kia.

Kia's face is deep red in embarrassment and a remembrance of the first time she met Sam as she reaches her boss's office with the scent of leather still in her nose. She bites her bottom lip.

Kia gets to her tiny office with a nervous expression on her face. It was only her second day of being on the job, and someone had already leaked the fact that she was lesbian to the whole company, and she was scared of how people were going to react. Some people don't respond well upon hearing someone doesn't align with their beliefs.

She grabs her laptop from her side bag and sets it on the desk in front of her. They provide computers, but Kia has always liked using her private computer over the one on the desk. She started typing away, writing the short story due by the day's end. She bites her lip in concentration as the words flow through her fingertips onto the page.

She finished typing, finishing a hot cocoa to keep up her energy. She has never been one for the bitterness of coffee, so she never drinks it. No offense to the Star Buck fans, but it's too bitter for her liking. She grabs another cup and starts reading over her work, editing anything she thinks needs it and fixing some simple grammar mistakes she made before she finally hits submit at the end of the day. She grabbed her stuff and put it away. She walks out of the building, her keys jingling in her pocket as she approaches her car at the far back of the parking lot. She heard footsteps behind her, but she dismissed them as other people going to their cars and leaving for the day. She knew she had guessed wrong when whoever it was could still be heard after she reached her car.

She turned around and saw five guys surrounding her. Her hands instinctively go to the strap of her bag. "umm...Hi?" She says, her greeting coming out more as a question as she swallows, starting to feel scared. She knew it was stupid to say hi when she could tell these guys were not being friendly, but she was nervous and couldn't help it. She watches as one of the guys steps closer to her. The other guys close in, giving her no way to try to run and escape.

"Shut up, stupid dike!" The one in front of her growls and spits on her face. She is too afraid to wipe it away as he grabs her and shoves her against her car. She gasped, her heart racing as she felt icy fear run up her spine in fear. She struggles to get out of the guy's grasp. She fails, and his grip tightens painfully, causing her to wince. "That's not even a sample of what we are going to you," He hisses at her, the disgust clear in his voice.

She whimpers in fear, and all the guys laugh cruelly. Another guy steps forward and pries her hands from her strap, tossing her bag aside. Both of the guys take one of her arms and pin them to her car, standing aside as a bigger guy steps forward. He stands before her, cracking his knuckles, a devilish smirk on his face while his eyes glint with disgust. He balled his hand up into a fist and struck her stomach, relishing the pathetic sound she made.

Kia doubles over as the breath is knocked out of her body, causing her to cough and gasp for air. She looks up, and the next punch hits her in the bridge of the nose. She screams in pain as she hears a sickening crack and feels something warm as well as wet run down her nose. The grips on her arms are gone. A sharp pain in her leg forces her to the ground.

Pain explodes everywhere. She curls up, wrapping her hands around her neck protectively. She continues to feel pain impact her body as she cries and whimpers. Even above her, whimpers, taunting, and laughing can be heard as she prays for them to get bored and stop or at least for someone to save her. Time seemed to tick away endlessly as they continued to kick and call her cruel names:

"She deserves to die"

"Everything we are doing is punishment."

"Worthless Scum."

...It felt like forever.

Just as she thought she couldn't take anymore, her mind and body feeling broken, a voice of hope shouts above the rest. "Hey! What the fucking hell do you think you're doing?" A female voice yells in anger, evident in it. The pain stopped suddenly, sparking hope in Kia that it was finally over. Too scared to do anything, though, she stays curled up in a protective ball, her whole body shaking in pain and fear.

"We're taking care of this scum. Unless you want to join this girl, I suggest you do not interfere." A guy growls, hating being interrupted, wanting to continue with what he started on the pathetic girl who can be heard silently whimpering. The girl approaches the group of guys, her high-heeled leather boots clicking as she gets closer to them, echoing through the now mostly empty parking lot. The guys are silent in anticipation, not knowing what this girl will do, though not fearing her.

Kia starts to feel dizziness and exhaustion creeping up through her; her body is preparing to heal itself as her condition becomes severe due to the amount of blood that comes out from her nose and the possibility of internal bleeding from broken bones poking vital organs. Her uncontrollable shaking does nothing to help with the pain, only making it worse. All she wants to do is let the exhaustion take it all away. The pain, the fear, everything was too much for her.

"I can't just let you hurt this innocent girl. What has she done to you? Hmm? Do you think picking on someone is okay because they are weaker than you? Because they can't or won't fight back?" The girl, all dressed in leather, asks. The only thing that is not visibly leather is her tight tank top. Her whole style screams badass.

The big guy snorts. "What, you gonna stop us? All we're doing is taking out the trash. People like this girl need to be punished. I suggest you let us get back to it before I put a dent in your pretty little face, little tiger." The guy sneers, not truly knowing who he's dealing with. Bullies in elementary school had attacked this girl, and after her parents found out, they made her take defense classes. She knows that size has no equivalent to what she can do. With a quick swing, her fist connects with the guy's gut in an uppercut powerful enough to cause the guy to double over in pain.

She grabs his chin harshly and forces him to look at her, a hate glare on his face. She glares right back. "And I suggest you not call me that again. I also suggest you watch who you're threatening. I might not look it, but I could tear all of you to shreds right here, right now, with no problem. I'm not too fond of it when people try to make their actions noble when they're cowardly. That's all you guys are. You are cowards. Are you picking on a girl because she's different? Because she doesn't fit in with your status? That's low and despicable. If you value your pretty little face, you'll leave before I give you a free face fix." She says, voice flat and dangerous.

Two guys grab her arms, and she elbows them, turning quickly and smashing their heads together. They both fall to the ground, groaning and holding their heads. She gets in a fighting stance, looking at the other guys. "Well? Come on, seeing as you guys are in the mood to get beat up by a girl. I'll make sure it's a quick humiliation." She says, a smirk of confidence on her face. She watches as the others get angry at the thought of losing to a girl who wants to prove her wrong.

She sends a kick flying backward, catching the big guy in the chin. There's a crunch and a cry of pain, causing her smirk to turn into a full-blown smile as the other two hesitate to go toward her. The first one makes up his mind and runs toward her, arms stretched out, preparing to grab her, exposing him. Well, let's say his weak spot. She pulls her leg up, bends it close to her body, then smashes it where the sun doesn't shine. His eyes fill with pain as he yelps, his hands wrapping around his tender parts, kneeling to the ground.

The other guy's eyes flash angrily, ready to avenge his friend. He walks up to her. She cocks her head. "You sure you want to get punched? You could walk away now instead of running later." She says teasingly. He snarls and swings his fist, which she catches in her hand, twisting it to its limit, watching the guy's eyes widen in shock, which soon turns to pain as she yanks it past its limit with a sickening crack. His mouth twists into an O, the pain too much for him to cry out. He grabs his broken wrist, fear written in his eyes.

She looks around and sees the big guy get back up again, a cut on where her heel clipped his chin, blood dribbling down onto his shirt. He wipes his chin, glaring at the girl with hatred. She only smiles at him, not in the least scared of the muscled guy in front of her. She was merely amused that he's yet to have given up.

He swings hard and clumsily, leaving himself open to a counterattack. Before his fist can touch the girl in leather, her fist connects with his ribs as she ducks just in time to feel the air from his fist breeze through her hair. She gets back to her full height, watching the guy grab his side with a grunt of pain. She swings her leg high, connecting the side of her boot to the side of his head, fists curled, giving herself more stability.

The guys curse, and the girl watches as they all run in fear of her. The big guy gives one last glare before running to join them. "Cowards," she mumbles under her breath, then quickly turns her attention to the bleeding girl, dashing to her and kneeling next to her. She places a hand gently on Kia's back. Kia tensed, a groan passing her lips as she felt the sharp pain where the girl's hand touched her back. The hands were gone quickly, with a stuttering apology being mumbled to her repeatedly. "Let me call 911. Everything's going to be alright. Hang tight. I'll be right here the whole time. Just let me get you medical attention." The girl says, pulling out her phone and dialing 911 quickly, worried about Kia driving her adrenaline to its max.

She holds the phone to her ear, her foot tapping as she listens to it ringing. After a few rings, someone finally picks up. "Hello? You have reached 911. What's your emergency?" The operator on the other line asks.

She moves her phone to her other ear. "There's a girl here in my parking lot. She's hurt badly. Please send help. I don't know her condition, but it doesn't look good. She's bleeding and bruised. I don't know how much longer this poor girl will last." She says worry clearly in her voice. Her concern for Kia grows the longer she's on the phone. She looks at her and sees that she's slowly uncurling herself and trying to sit up.

Kia winces in pain as every tiny movement she makes causes her terrible pain. She closes her eyes and listens to the girl tell the person on the other line where they are. The only thing Kia was able to do was groan because of how exhausted the girl was as she forced herself into a sitting position. Desperately, she stretches out her arm, tears falling down her cheek at the pain as her fingers graze the brown leather strap of her side bag. She inhales sharply, letting her arm fall back to her side, and turns her eyes lazily to look at the person in front of her. Kia takes in the girl's features, her heart pounding. Her soft, concerned eyes look back at her as Kia studies her other features. The girl's hair is cut short into a pixie-style cut, and her hair is jet black, reminding her of the night sky. She has a small piercing on her nose that glints in the street light. Her whole persona says the motor girl.

The girl is no longer on the phone and is back to kneeling next to her. "Help is on the way. Just hang in there. Can you tell me your name?" She asks as her leather sleeve brushes against Kia's bare skin. She sees the bruises on the girl's arm and her swollen nose that has dried blood from it. Kia has blood on her shirt as well. Her face is stained with tears that fell while she was being kicked, as well as the recent ones.

"M-my n-na-names K-Kia." Her vision starts to blur as her eyes get heavier. A hand touches her cheek slightly.

"Hey, stay awake for me. My name's Samantha, but you can call me Sam. Did you recently start working here?" Sam asks, trying to keep Kia awake. She feared what might happen if the poor girl closed her eyes. She kept asking Kia questions, making sure she stayed awake. Though she could tell the girl didn't want to answer, Sam kept encouraging her to answer as the ambulance showed up.

The EMTs hop out of the ambulance with a stretcher and into the ambulance. Sam joined, keeping her promise that she wouldn't leave Kia. She watches as the EMTs fuss over Kia as Kia finally closes her eyes, falling into a blissful unconsciousness.

Kia finally felt safe, and her last thought before her consciousness was taken from her was actually kind of silly for someone who just went through what she went through.

Sam's cute. Hmm… I wonder if she's a lesbian like me….
