An Offer

The guards though being tasked with Fuyuhiko's safety, were still prone to be distracted by gossip, and that was especially true of today. "Are you telling me that assasins targeted the young master?" "Yeah, a couple from Tengan's group. You know how they are assigned in pairs." "Tengans assasins? How did he survive?" "Well," the other responded, "Peko was the one who caught them." The conversation was then intterupted when a figure with dark brown hair and an ahoge came through the door. Before the two gaurds could attack him though, Fuyuhiko himself came through and started cursing like a sailor.

Hajime was confused. Yes he and Fuyuhiko had been childhood friends, but he was still a rooky in the gang. The only reasons he had joined in the first place was because he and Fuyu were said childhood friends and a dark secret in his past he didn't like thinking about. That wasn't an explination for why he had been chosen for such a top-secret mission "What exactly is going on?" Hajime asked and Fuyuhiko gave him a tired look. "You know about the Red-Robe and The Bloodhound right?" Hajime nodded his head slowly. Of course he knew about what was probably the most famous pair of assasins in the criminal underworld. The Red-Robe had a legendary kill count and the Bloodhound could uncover any secret and find anything. However, that didn't really answer his question, is what he was thinking when Fuyuhiko led him to the cell, where a willowy figure with dark blue hair and pale yellow eyes greeted him. "He asked for you." Fuyuhiko explained and Hajime swore. "*****" Hajime stared at Shuichi Saihara, the famous assasin known as the Bloodhound. It made Hajime uncomfortable, especially when he tried to get information from him, but Shuichi simply stared without speaking, even when Hajime mentioned what he knew about Shuichi leaking the truth of the Prime Minister to the criminal underworld. Finally, Hajime turned to Fuyuhiko questioningally. "Why won't he say anything?" Fuyuhiko sighed again, seemingly tired. "I think he's sizing you up. He did the same thing with the gaurds that came to check on him before, just sat there and let them talk at him." When Hajime turned to Fuyuhiko, the bags in his eyes made him look older than normal. "He's one of Tengan's stolen kids," Fuyuhiko started. "Tengans a ***ing ***hole! He keeps taking our coworkers and buisness partners to put in his stupid snuff films!" Hajime took all this in, seeming pretty frazzled at the information. So people are captured and put in torture films to make Tengan money. Of course Hajime already knew this, but hearing it so plainly stated made him feel sick. "Tengan was involved in child trafficking, and raised and brainwashed assasins on his stupid ***ing farms." Hajime continued listening and from what he could tell, the Red-Robe, or Maki Harukawa, was here as well. "It's so frustrating though!" Fuyuhiko continued to rant. "They're so ***ing loyal to him! Everytime we capture a pair so we can maybe help them, they ***ing kill themselves before we can learn anything! Only one pair actually told us anything, and it was the one we caught before these two. The Photagrapher and the Venus Fly-trap..." "Mahiru and Hyoko." Hajime startled, turning around sharply to see it was Shuichi's soft voice that had spoken. "It was Mahiru and Hyoko." Hajime then turned his attention back to Fuyuhiko, who seemed to be struggling not to scream. "Hyoko escaped, so we tried to convince Mahiru to tell us something, since her partner had simply abandoned her. But it was weird, she seemed really happy about it, and started talking about how glad she was that she was going to escape. At first, I thought she was talking about her partner, but then she started going on about how her partner had to take care of her. And then before I could do anything, she ***ing ran into the door and bashed her head against it on purpose!" Fuyuhiko grimaced, and Hajime tensed up. What was happening was clearly wrong, but something Fuyuhiko had said struck a lightbulb in his mind, so he tried to ask Shuichi to confirm his theory. "That's it then," Hajime started, his voice cracking. "It's not that you are all deathly loyal to Tengan, but more that these "duos," are actually a trio?" Shuichi gave a small, almost imperceptible nod, and Hajime's heart dropped into his stomach. Fuyuhiko then waved to a monitor where Hajime could see Maki, and continued explaining. "Yeah I think so to. She's been trying to escape ever since we caught her, and she almost made it out until she saw him on the monitor. We managed to bring her back, but she's been trying to kill herself every since, and it's been increasingly hard just to ***ing keep her alive!" Hajime then heard the astonishally broken tone in Shuichi's voice. "How long will it be? Before Maki does what Mahiru did?!" "Maki won't get the chance to do something that stupid," Fuyuhiko promised, his clipped tone making it sound like he was holding in his emotions. "Neither will you, so don't even try it." Hajime felt very unsure about this whole situation now as Shuichi continued to speak. "I know I wouldn't. Maki might, but you would catch me before I did, and I wouldn't be able to anyway. If everything goes wrong, Maki will kill herself, and he...." Shuichi seemed unable to respond, and Hajime knew he would have to try to help, despite the fact he was horrible at being gentle. "This friend you mentioned, is he an assassin?" However, that was the wrong thing to say as Shuichi glared daggers at the young gangster. "He's not an assasin! In three days, the friend Maki and I have given everything to protect, will die. He'll die horribly, and I can't let that happen to either of them!" Hajime started to put pieces together from this. So they raised three of them there, but only made two assasins, while the third becomes a hostage. He also understood what Shuichi was asking of him. "So, you want me to rescue Kaito before he is taken for a film," he clarified, and Shuichi nodded enthusiastically. "If you do that, we'll do more than give you our information, we'll kill Tengan ourselves." Hajime was suprised at the surety in his voice, but he could tell the assasin was being sincere. As Hajime thought about this, he got more and more disturbed, and the answer became more and more clear. He had to except! Hajime didn't approve of killing, though he had seen his fair share of non-murder crimes, being a gangster and all, but he could see the brokeness in Shuichi's voice of a child who had been robbed of his childhood. And Hajime knew that he had to do something about it, even if it was a near suicidal move. Before Hajime could speak though, Shuichi opened his mouth, his willowy figure managing to look threatening. "Look, I'm the only one who has a chance of surviving if everything goes wrong. If Maki and Kaito die and I live, I won't say anything about Tengan or how to defeat him, but I will tell everyone everything I know about you Hajime..." "I was already going to help!" Hajime interrupted, you don't have to blackmail me into it, sheesh."

This story didn’t just capture my attention it captured my soul. The emotions were so raw and pure that I actually felt every silent scream, every hidden tear, every heartbeat of the characters. It’s rare to find writing that speaks beyond words, but you’ve done it. You didn’t just write a story; you created an emotional universe I never want to leave.
