Looks human.
But something just isn't quite right.
Something is off.
That's how they see me.
As something uncomfortable.
As something ever so slightly incorrect.
An alien.
An alien wearing human skin
An alien who tries to pretend they're human too.
Almost human.
But not quite.
Maybe they're right.
Maybe I am.
Or maybe I'm a fish, expected to live outside of water.
Without daring to complain.
Without daring to act out of line.
Without daring to ask for help.
They expect me to follow their unwritten rules.
Rules on how to correctly behave.
How am I meant to know.
How am I meant to know the rules they keep locked up.
For me to decipher myself.
Or maybe everyone was given a manual.
A manual that I never got.
A manual I don't understand.
A manual they laugh and tease people for not receiving.
Maybe they simply fear me.
Maybe they fear how I can step out of the perfect line they created for themselves to follow.
Maybe they envy me.
There's no way to know.
They don't even know.
All they know is.
There's something wrong with me.
That I'm almost human.
But not quite
