Summary

Somehow I got through it all. This is a sort of story and it is an intense stormy one. I hope I never live through another one like it.

Chapter 1

Why this is a scandal? We are respectable people. She must not do such a thing. We demand respect. We depend on respect.

My extended family want to know they have become white-collar workers and they detest my blurbs.

" We do not want everyone to know that we were killers: our children will be upset."

The women said this as they sat around their tables knitting stuff that they would donate. They had turned their lives around made them meaningful from behaving badly. They were now the apple of the community. Whitewashed and with things to hide.

"My sons."

"Our children." Chided another of her friends.

"It is losing money for us! That is so unnatural costing me money. "

Shouted Dad to Ma as if he was on fire his mouth foaming.

From somewhere distant I can still hear them from that day. They were plotting to stay in the same place. In there with their seats.

When I went near them they stopped and it was all smiles.

Coals dimmed by time looked at me. I looked back at them. They were grandparents and they made sense to themselves. I was a mere intruder whom they had helped now an embarrassing reminder.

"Hello there what is it with you did you happen to do something useful?"

"Did we do right?"

Down the ages, there was all that to hear.

"I told you never to adopt a child." She hissed under her breath. "Unlucky for us all." Zeks wanted me out I belonged out in the street.

"But if married it is the responsibility of her husband. Then I would have done good," he said somewhat in a manner that said it all. It was just that Zeks was a bad cook.

Fidel did not want trouble but he knew he knew she was not a good cook.

"Put it in English."

"We are done for."

This does not happen in England in England it just does not.

The gently bred English people do not believe this they do not even see it. They never have such a killing family. They have never mated with their killers. They know their pre-nuptials. No killer in my family.

"Killing someone young is tiring." Mother said.

She was tired. It was her job to kill me as if that was not enough she did not ask for much except for me to cook and clean and garden. I was a complex woman doing odd jobs.

I worked a lot for very little.

It was a hard task. Why because she was tired out.

The moment she had to do something she cried.

I the daughter called the orphaned made no sense. Orphaned Annie. Yes, I had been dumped there now known as orphaned Auntie.

So many emotional moments. The thing went on for a number of years.

Ousted. I am not a member of any family that said that means I have nothing to look forward to but loo paper.

"Look there are so many people milling for your place."

"I want compensation," I replied.

"There is no money." They said quite startled.

The dowries they promised the stuff they would get like a blessing from their daughters were over. They would be cursed forever.

"Look what you have done we are done for. Does anyone know what we are? We will not be able to leave anything for our own kids." Zeks said and said until she went to bed with such a headache. She came back with a headband. It made her look ethnic.

"Just change the subject. You fool." Fidel said.

Soon very soon the moment would be yours. I would soon have it all.

The tears had come and flowed down my chin.

Someone else walked in. Did not notice and did not want to see it. The life went out of me.

I penciled him in.

He penciled me out.

Life is about clarity but I crept out. Then went insane.

"Understood?"

"Dropped out."

This is about grief.

The group agreed.

"It is okay. It is right he and everyone else left me."

"He is younger."

"The wives said let the husbands amuse themselves with her. The filthy bitch let her loose on them."

I have been groped abused and somehow been trodden on. I have fallen down in the world.

"Group groped?"

"Yes."

"She is a femme fatale and we desire her."

Femme fatale of the kitchens? I did not see that.

No one understands orphans they even call them names. Nastiness begets nasty behavior. It lasts throughout life there is no other name for it.

"You are never sixty?"

"I am."

"Most shocking."

"I pity that girl she did love him."

"Did they mean me?" I waited to hear more eavesdropping had become a habit.

No one was speaking directly to me I had to find out everything by eavesdropping.

"Still does." Tears came as if the whole thing was folly.

"You have parents except they can't live with you because you talk all the time." Zeks said.

"Discretion is not your strong point," added Zeks.

"Of course,"

"He is not the husband." So she drops him."

"She is disgusting," I say

My whole family has gone silly about her too.

"She said as IOU."

"I do not owe you," I reply.

"Is that your mother?"

" I believe so."

In the past, it was just fools who asked to be nameless and to survive being nameless. The anon.

Aysel was a proud woman a wife and a mother. Yet she would never be anon. Because she came from a grand family because she was someone special and she proved this to everyone.

Aysel was the daughter of a madman who was sectioned and placed in chains. Aysel was his main carer. She was only eight.

When Zeks consumed by curiosity came to see the madman as he was a delight. Aysel was raped. She never got over that. She went insane herself. She was fostered by a rich family who made her see sense and made her matter.

She went mad because she loved the father-in-law as well as the son. Decorum was not her thing. She had done well in the rich man's household.

She did not understand what she had done wrong.

Aysel had an issue born out of wedlock and they said or pretended to say they did not know who the father was.

Aysel became a bigamist.

Atiye was the mother-in-law.

They lived in the grand house Atiye was a madwoman I thought constantly. Atiye was a grand woman who always wanted society to love her.

"How did she do that?"

"Sheer authority."

And she was perfect.

"Servants"?

They are used.

Aysel did not look like a servant. No, she looked like a lady. She went to night school and was charming and charmed by the whole folly of learning.

She knew how to sit and take off and did walk and was not kind but was able to work long hours without getting into a sweat.

All the guys wanted to know her.

Atiye did not know how a serpent lived in her bosom.

Aysel was ambitious.

Her ambition matched Atiye's. She wanted to be the lady of the house. The grand house where no one would hurt her ever again.

Aysel was found in bed with the wrong man and the two women became daggers drawn.
