Chapter 1
I was born into royalty. Not actual royalty. More so of high-status royalty. My family name is huge around here.
“Morning Princess,” Julius says as I walk past him to get cereal from the cabinet.
I get out a bowl of cereal and then walk towards the fridge for the milk. Well, if there was any left. “Julius,” I pull out the jug and show him the teaspoon left at the bottom of the container. “Why?”
He smirks and relaxes back in his chair while reading the tabloids. He’s always looking to see what type of gossip or rumors the paparazzi created about him. “First one to notice it empty has to go to the store to get more.” He looks at me, “I think that’s you, little sister.” He looks back down and chuckles under his breath.
I throw the empty jug at him, but he catches it without even looking up at me. He keeps reading as he says, “How many times will it take you to learn you can’t catch a hunter off guard?” He sets the jug on the counter and never looks up at me.
“I think it will most likely take another few hundred times.” Ace, my other brother, comes up behind me and pulls my ponytail as he walks behind me to make himself coffee. They both laugh and go on with their morning.
“Why was I cursed with two stubborn older brothers?” I ask the gods above me. “Why couldn’t I have been born first so my parents realized what they had was perfect and didn’t need two slime balls?”
“Now even if you were born first, you would still be stuck with what you call two slimeballs of brothers. They would just be younger instead of older.” My mother tells me as she walks into the kitchen pulling the tabloids out of my eldest brother’s hands.
“I’m glad we had these two slimeballs first. At least they are good hunters and protectors for my perfect princess.” My dad walks in and kisses the side of my head. He whispers a quick good morning and walks over to the fridge.
“Why is everyone calling me and Ace a slimeball?” Julius asks “Ace!”
Ace looks at him and shrugs his shoulders. “Well, I know I’m not a slimeball.”
Julius pretends to be hurt by Ace’s words, “I thought we were brothers, how could you?” He asks covering his heart with his hands and pretending to cry.
“Where is all the milk? I bought some only two nights ago?” My father yells into the fridge. I look to Julius and smile happy karma came to collect. Ace starts snickering and slides next to me as he sips on his coffee. My mother gives Julius a side eye waiting to see what he will do.
Julius slowly stands and looks towards our dad as he turns to his eldest son. “Well, you see...” He smiles and runs out of the kitchen and we hear the front door slam close only a few seconds later.
My mom starts laughing, “He is definitely your son Silas.” She takes Julius’ mug he left and drinks it. “Oh, god!” She puts the mug down and gags a little, “Who puts alcohol in their coffee at 7am on a Tuesday?”
“He might be more your son than mine Tamara.” My father laughs a little until he sees the look on my mom’s face. “I mean...” He runs out and we hear the front door slam once again.
My mom looks up at me and sighs, “Alright, I guess the two idiots can’t take you to school. I’ll drive you and work on the blackmail of your father so it will be ready for him when he comes back. Ace, check the cameras to make sure your brother didn’t take the Corvette.”
My brother nods and kisses my head and tells me good luck at school. He makes his way to the camera room. I grab my bag and click my necklace into place following my mom out the door. Last week of Hunter School and one week until my twentieth birthday. The day I get my first assignment and sign my soul to the family practice.
