Chapter 1

Bolts

All my life I've been a jokester. Always the funny one

When mom died, everyone turned to me to keep things light and funny. No one really asked how I was doing. They were all worried about Kassi or Reaper. Kassi was so young when Mom passed that everyone worried she'd go off the rails, and Reaper, well he did a little bit. Everyone just kind of overlooked me. I never really got to grieve.

"Can't sleep?" Her soft voice pulled me from my thoughts. I looked over from my seat on the bench. She'd filled out since she got here. Two weeks ago she was skin and bone, her sallow skin a deathly white and her dark hair unkept and matted. Her dark brown eyes sunken in and scared like an animal backed into a corner.

"Yeah, something like that" I smiled up at her "You?"

She looked out at the night sky and nodded silently. I patted the seat beside me "Wanna talk about it?"

Shyly she sat down making sure to keep a small distance between us "The nightmares come and go. Tonight was a bad night" She mumbled shrugging.

"Because of what happened to you?"

She nodded, a strand of loose hair falling over her shoulder. Took everything I had not to reach out and brush it back.

"Have you talked to anyone about it?"

She shook her head "Isabella and Kassi keep trying to talk to me but I just can't deal with their sympathetic looks anymore" She shrugged.

I took a sip of my beer "They care about you"

"They don't know me"

"I don't know you and I care about you," I said softly.

She blushed "You're different"

"How so?"

"Because you've never treated me like I was broken"

She leaned back on the bench and looked up at the sky letting out a deep sigh.

"What was your nightmare about?" I shuffled in my seat.

"The night I was taken. It comes up every so often but I'm not ready to talk about it yet"

I nodded taking another gulp of my beer "Well if you ever decide you want to talk about it you know where I am" I winked at her.

She smiled and blushed shyly. "Across the hall right?"

"That's right"

I wasn't flirting. Not really, she's attractive but she's not ready for that yet and I respect that.

"I should probably go and try to get some sleep" She stood up brushing down the shirt of her pajamas. I swallowed thickly taking her all in.

When she first got here Kassi and Izzy had taken her shopping to get some clothes. Some stuff that belonged to her that was clean and fit her. She fills them out better now than when she got them.

She's not tall but not exactly short either I'd say an average height of around 5' 4", her build is slim but she's curvy. Like Izzy, she's got curvy hips and healthy thighs, not too big on the top but not lacking either. Just right.

I finished my beer and stood up behind her "I'll walk you up, Make sure the bogeyman stays away" I winked again.

She laughed softly wrapping her arms around herself. We walked back through the kitchen and I left my empty beer bottle on the counter.

The common area was empty, When we got back with the girls everyone was warned not to make them feel uncomfortable in any way. So until they had settled any sexual acts were behind closed doors only. Some of the prospects grumbled about it at first but a few beatings later they got the hint.

Not that it bothered me, I hadn't touched a club girl since we got back. Didn't plan on it either.

We took the stairs in silence, Luna's room was across the hall from mine. Hers had a bathroom in it so she didn't need to worry about bumping into anyone if she needed to go. It helped her to feel safe in a new environment.

When she first got here she spent the first few days locked away, when she came down she barely spoke and spooked easily.

Now she talked a little more but not a lot and although she still jumped at loud noises she had settled a lot more in herself.

We stopped outside her door "Thanks for being a good friend Bolts. Good night." She reached up and pecked a kiss on my cheek before turning and walking into her room.

A part of me hated that we were just friends. She's beautiful and I want to make her mine, but she needs a friend right now.

So that's what I'll be. Her friend.
