Trek into the wild
I loudly sing out the lyrics to the song blasting through my car’s radio. My trunk is packed with my camping supplies. I’m tired of life, I need a quick break and then I’ll be right back to my same old stressful life, but for now I need a break and this camping trip is perfect! Nobody knows I’ve left or where I’m going and I left my phone at home so I will have no distractions. For once it will truly just be me myself and I. I will have nothing to worry about for once, no waiting for someone to call and say I’m needed back at work or back at home, no having to care about anything or anyone but myself.
I stop at the last gas station along the way to make sure my gas tank is filled up, after I refill the tank I won’t see another person, I hope, for the next 2 weeks.
I know this seems like a silly ideal, not telling anybody but I needed a break between caring for dad and helping him through his Alzheimer’s, I feel bad leaving him but I didn’t leave him completely alone, I hired a 24/h nurse to take care of him, still I feel bad because he can’t even remember me, how is he supposed to remember a completely new person he’s never seen before? But I know he’s taken care of. I won’t let my guilt change my plans. I need this trip. I need it really bad.
