Chapter 1
Chapter 1: (Kody)
“It’s fine mum,” I sigh as my mother brushes at a small coffee stain on my white shirt.
“I’m going to change into my robes anyway, on the train.” My husky, Jinx, licks my hand softly. I pet him behind his ear as Mum gives up on trying to get rid of the stain. She quickly kisses my cheek. My dad comes from behind the car and grabs my trunk from my hands.
“Just don’t be a Hufflepuff,” he growls and Mum swats his arm. “My brother is a Hufflepuff!” she says indignantly and kisses me again. She hands me my vanilla latte and I get into the car. Dad finishes packing the back and gets into the driver’s seat. He starts the flying car, still grumbling about Hufflepuffs and purebloods.
She waves as we pull away from the driveway, heading to Kings Cross station. She isn’t coming with us because she needs to watch my little sister who’s going to Hogwarts next year. Too bad I wouldn’t see her or Grace until winter break.
I finish my latte just as we lift into the sky. Jinx boops my knee with his nose and whines, indicating that he was hungry. “ Not now buddy.” I whisper. I pet his head and feed him a treat.
He’s sitting on the floor of my dad’s fancy car —because my dad won’t let him sit on the leather seats. He’s shedding a lot and I know my dad is going to be mad when he gets back home.
I watch the clouds pass around us as our flying car travels to King Cross. I noticed a yellow car in front of us with a license plate reading. PrId3. Dad grumbles up front and honks. The car in front of us swerves, and I can see 3 people in the car. Somebody rolls down a window and shouts something that I can’t hear over the wind.
“Dagnabbit,” he says, and I roll my eyes. “What were you trying to achieve?” I ask, petting Jinx’s head. My father glared at me with cold eyes.
“I’m trying to show those people where their place is.” He hissed, looking back to the sky. I roll my eyes, stroking Jinx on the back. Suddenly, our car dives down and I almost launch out of my seat, we quickly descend to the streets of London. The car stops and I get out, not wasting anytime with goodbyes I get out of the car, and my older sister, Vivian, pushes me out of the way. I fall to the concrete ground, and Jinx circles around me, making sure I’m okay, He sniffs my hand and and I pet him behind his ears. He barks softly. I get up and lead him to a trash can, where I throw away my empty cup. Vivian comes up behind me and smirks, “Can’t litter, can we?” She mocks, patting my head, I swat her hand away, and she grins. She walks to her friends and they start giggling and laughing. I sigh, brushing my brown hair to the side. I walk towards the train station, following Vivian and her gang. On the way, I see a sign pionting to what looked like a garden, Curiosly, I walked through the garden, Jinx following at my heels. I noticted a clump of pink rose bushes and started walking over there. Jinx seemed to be wary of a spot in the air, because he kept barking at it. “Jinx, over here!” He skirted around the patch of air and came over to me, looking very proud of himself. I rolled my eyes and was suddenly knocked over into the roses, the thorns on the roese bush giving me a million differant scratches. I heard a loud hiss and felt small paws on my chest, and I can’t seem to see anything, Must be an Invisible animal! I pushed the invisible thing of my chest, And I heard footsteps running tworrds me. A girl wearing a peach shirt and jeans with a small purple backpack comes running from the other path. She grabs the invisible thing and it appears in her arms. Its a small, white cat with light gray spots. It hisses at me, showing off it’s sharp teeth. The girl gently tapps the cats’s nose. “ Don’t be rude, Ghost!” She scolds the cat, She plopps the cat onto the sidewalk and helped me up from the ground.
“Name’s Elly May! Please don’t mind my cat, she doesn’t like dog people,“
I dust off my shirt, “It’s fine! My name is Kody Menace” I huff, I notice a ticket in her pocket saying 9¾. “Your going to Hogwarts as well?!” I ask, she nods, smiling at me. “I’ll show you the way!”I tell her as I lead the way to the column, where my dad is waiting with my trunk. He glares at Elly. I grab my trunk from him and shrug away from his small hug. Elly was already halfway to the entrance, so I have to run to catch up to her. Together, we race through the entrance.
I’m in awe at the sight of the huge red train, and all the magic around us. Families saying their farewells, owls swooping, and cats prowling around. Dogs prance around their owners and Patronuses fly gracefully through the air like they were trying to rid everybody of their first-day nerves. I smile, seeing Jinx bound around and having fun. I wait, giving Jinx time to play. Elly soon bounds over to me, Ghost in her arms, Jinx right behind her. We walk to the train together. I help her with her trunk, and she helps me hoast up mine. I call Jinx and he jumps into the train. The train whistle blows and students start loading into the train. Elly grins, “We should find a compartment before they all fill up!” She led the way with Ghost purring in her arms.
We ended up in a compartment with a short, red-headed boy with a face covered in freckles that lit up when we entered. He scooted over and Elly sat down next to him on the dark red plush seat. I sat down facing him, just as the train started to move. I put my trunk on the luggage rack. Ghost stood up in Elly’s lap, stretched, and disappeared. The red-headed boy’s eyes widened and he gasped. “Your cat just disappeared! How are you not freaking out?!” Elly laughed, “Ghost is special. She’s got invisibility powers. My name is Elly May, and that’s Kody.” I smiled and gave him a little wave. “My name’s Fred.” He grinned even wider and leaned over to pet my Huskey. “That’s Jinx,” I say, reaching into my bag and pulling out a bag of dog biscuits. “He can do something very special, just watch!” I throw the treat in the air and it just hangs there. It looks like it’s been caught in a spider web, but I can see faint blue tendrils of magic surrounding it. “Ta-Da! “ I announce. Ghost reappears on the luggage rack and swats the treat, breaking the magic. Jinx lunges to catch it, accidentally hitting me in the face with his tail. “Jinx!” I complain. Elly snickers and Fred looks around wildly. “What just happened?!” He demands. Jinx looks very smug as he chews on his treat, and I can imagine him laughing at me as well. “Nothing,” I grumble. Elly reaches into her backpack and brings out two different bags. One filled with something light pink and wet-looking. The other was bigger, filled to the point that it almost couldn’t close with candy and snacks. Elly opened the first one and put it on the ground next to her seat. Ghost disappears from the rack and reappears, eating the stuff from the bag. “It’s her wet food, “ Elly explains as she opens the other bag. She pours some of her snacks onto the seat, and Fred seems to get even more excited as he watches the stuff fall from the bag. Elly sees his face and hands him a red and orange bag with orange chips on the front. “That’s a bag of Cheezets. There cheesy crackers and they are one of my favorites. All of these snacks are American, if you were wondering.“ Elly says not looking up from the pile as she searched for something. Fred curiously opens the bag and takes out a cracker. “Aha!!” Elly shouts, almost making Fred drop the Cheezet. She grins, holding up a small rectangular red package. “Behold!!” She announces, “The magical, wonderful, wafer-filled, Kit-Kats!!” She ripped the package open and snapped off one of the separate bars. She took a bite and seemed really happy. Fred put the cracker in his mouth and chewed. He slowly started to smile. He swallowed and offered me one. I ate the cracker he gave me. “It’s pretty good!” “What other strange wonders are in that pile?” I asked Elly, who was on the last bar of her Kit-Kat. She got a sparkle in her eye and handed me a small blue packet that I remembered from when, two years ago, my mum went on a trip to America and brought back a big package of them for me, Vivian, and Grace. “Oreos! “ I said, happily. I opened the package and took out one of the sandwich biscuits. I opened it up and licked off the frosting. Elly nodded in approval. After licking the frosting off both biscuits, I ate them. By the time I finished my Oreos, Fred had finished his Cheezets, and Elly had gone through multiple packages of brightly colored candy. We heard a knock on the door and all of our heads whipped toward the door. Elly opened the door and a prefect stepped in. “You are the last few kids to have to put on your robes, so hurry up now!” He announced. I cock my head to the side, “Why?”
The prefect smiled at me, “We’ve arrived at Hogwarts!”
