Three Plus Three

Lia’s story:

I can’t believe I finally got adopted as a 15 year old to a 32 year old single guy. I mean, he is 32 and single, what does he have to do with a 15 year old? I just hope no one finds out about it because i’ll be such a joke.

After a 2 hours drive I arrived to his house, I mean, my house and it’s so pretty and it’s in a nice neighbourhood. “Hi, I’m Nick.. your father.” He said in a weird way trying to process the fact that he is a dad. “Hi, nice to meet you, I’m your daughter..” I said while laughing a little. “Come on in.” Nick said and opened the door.

We walked in and he gave me a house tour. “This is the kitchen, and over there is the living room.” He said while pointing to a large room with a white couch and a glass coffee table. “Wow! This house is perfect.” I said looking right into his green eyes. “Let me show you your room.” He said and walked me upstairs.

“So this is your room”. He said while opening the door. I looked around the room and saw a huge bed with white sheets and a big T.V right in front of it. “Where is your room?” I asked. “Mine is right over there.” He said and pointed to the door infront of mine.

“So umm..” Nick said “Oh i wanted to tell you, the kid right next door, is also your age maybe you could talk to him, I’m pretty sure you’ll be going to the same school.” He said excited for me to meet new people. “Oh that great!” I said while inside I didn’t really wanted to meet anybody.

“So, did you happen in any change buy me clothe or something?” I said trying to to be rude. “I kinda left mine at the previous placed I lived in because I didn’t like them.” I said and laughed a little. He walked me to my closet and said “I didn’t know what is your style so I asked my friend for help and she picked a few outfits from every style.”

“Wow!” I was shocked from the anount of pretty clothes there were. “So I’m guessing you are rich?” I asked because of the way the house looked and the amount of things he bought. “It’s not my money, it’s my parents, I told them I’m adopting you and they decided I don’t make enough money so the gave me some.” He said with no emotions.

“Also, I made reservations to an italian restaurant at 7:00 pm, be ready, or not.” He said and made me laugh.

I saw it was raining outside and I really love the rain so I told Nick I was going outside and just sat on the stairs watching and smelling the great smell of the rain. A few minutes later, as I was about to get inside, the kid Nick was talking about came outside.

“Hey!” He said. “You must be the new kid right?”. “Yeah that’s me.” I said. “I’m Johnny.” He said and shook my hand. “Lia..” I said kinda confused because I never shook someone’s hand before. “Sorry umm.. would you like to come in?” I asked out of politeness because we were standing in the rain. “Oh I would love that but I gotta get going, maybe some other time.” He said and started walking to his house. “Yeah sure, bye.” I said and got back inside.

“I see you have met the neighbor.” Nick said. “Yeah he is nice. I should go get ready..” i said and went upstairs to my room.

We arrived to the restaurant and started talking a bit after ordering, I ordered pizza and Nick ordered pasta. “Sorry if that’s rude to ask but how many foster houses have you been to before i adopted you?” He asked trying to bring any sensitive contact. “6.” I replyed. “And I rather not to tell anyone I’m adopted so let’s make a story why you are a single parent with a daughter half your age.” I said and tried to think of something. “We can say it was a teenager mistake and that the mom died in a car crash or something.” Nick suggested. “Yeah that’s a good idea.” I said.

After a few seconds, I saw Johnny the neighbor walking in with his family, I pointed to them and asked Nick if that’s them. “Yeah I’m pretty sure that’s them, let’s go say hi.” He said and started walking towards them.

“Hey I’m pretty sure we are your new neighbors.” Nick said. “Oh yeah hi! That’s so nice to finally meet you!” Johnny’s mom said. Johnny came closer to me and whispered “such an awkward coincidence isn’t it.” “Yeah it really is… I bet Ni- I mean my dad will invite you guys to sit with us.” I replied and laughed a bit. I saw Johnny’s dark brown eyes looking at me a little weird because I almost called Nick by his name instead of calling him dad, that made me a little stressed because I didn’t want anyone to find out about it. “You guys should come sit with us, we could all get to know each other.” Nick said and looked at me. Me and Johnny started laughing because we already knew that was gonna happen. “That will be great!” Johnny’s dad said trying to figure out why me and Johnny were laughing.

“Lia some of my friends and I are hanging out tomorrow after school, wanna join?” Johnny asked me. I looked at Nick hoping he would say that I can’t, but instead he whispered to me and told me I should go meet people. “I would love to.” I replied. “Great, if you want you can come with me to school tomorrow i’ll show you around.. if that’s okay with your dad.” He said. I was a little confused when he said your dad and then I remembered that Nick is my dad, Nick didn’t realize Johnny was talking about him eithet until we both looked at him waiting for an answer. “Oh yeah sorry, that’s completely fine by me.” He said and looked at me.

After dinner was over, Nick and I started talking and he said “I see you and Johnny get along.” “Yeah..” I said and looked at him. “That’s great I’m so happy.” He said. I was kinda confused because he was excited for me to have friends like I’m in first grade or something. “Can I ask you a question?” I asked. “You just did but sure you can ask me anything.” He said causing me to laugh. “Why are you so happy that I get along with Johnny?” I asked and looked at him trying to see if he is getting uncomfortable that I asked that. “Umm… I don’t really know how to explain this so don’t judge.” He said and stopped talking for a second. “I know it is hard to come to a new house, new family especially when you only have a dad in it, new school, new people. So seeing you opening to more people, makes me believe that you would get used to it faster and easier.” He said. What he said really make sense, but I didn’t have anything to say to that, so I just sat and waited for us to get home.

As I was ready to go to sleep, I got a message from an unknown number.

Unknown: Hey Lia, it’s Johnny. I just wanted to remind you to set your alarm.

Me: Hi, thanks but how did you get my number??

Johnny: Oh yeah sorry, my dad has your dad’s number so my dad brought me your dad’s number and I asked your dad for your number and that’s how I got it :)

Me: You are a funny guy Johnny.

Johnny: I’ll take that as a compliment.

Me: Goodnight Johnny.

Johnny: Goodnight.

Johnny’s story:

Lia seems so cool, I can’t wait for her to meet the rest of the group. I can see Ella and Maya becoming best friends with her. And talking about books with Dan and making fun about Joey’s hair. She is gonna have the best first day ever. Oh no when did the time become 1:27 am?! I gotta get to sleep.

It’s already 7am, Imma call Lia make sure she is up.

“Hello?” She said. “Hey Lia I just wanted to make sure you are up.” I said. “Oh yeah I’m up. What time should I be ready?” She asked. “Umm… 7:45.” I replied. “Okay then, I’ll see you then, bye!” She said and hung up the phone.

It was already 7:44 so I started to go outside to my car and just as I was about to call Lia, she came outside. “Are you excited?” I asked her. “Umm.. not really, but kinda scared.” She answered. “Don’t worry, everyone there is gonna love you and you are gonna love them.” I said to try make her less scared, and it worked.

“So umm, can you tell me a little about those friends we will be hanging out with?” She asked. “Oh sure. So there are two girls, one of them is in our class one of them isn’t. Their names are Ella and Maya, Maya is in our class Ella isn’t, but her brother is. His name is Joey and he is kinda dumb, he is from those sporty guys who doesn’t really care about school, like in the movies. And there’s Dan, he is also not in our class he is in the same class as Maya, he is the smart one so if you need help with homework or something go to him. And that’s probably all. Oh and also, try not to make fun of Joey’s hair, although I’m pretty sure he got used to that.” I stopped talking and looked at her shocked face.

We arrived to school and saw Ella, Maya, Dan and Joey waiting for us. “Oh my gosh you must be Lia right?” Ella asked. “Yeah that’s me.. I guess you are Ella and you are Maya right?” Lia said. “Yes how did you know??” Maya asked shocked. “Because Ella and Joey looks a lot alike.” Lia said. “That is the worst thing someone has ever said to me.” Ella said and everyone started laughing. “Hey! I’m here you know.” Joey said and made everyone laugh even more. “Let’s get to class.” Dan said and started walking to the building. “Nerd!” Joey yelled to him. “I know you said Joey is dumb but I didn’t expect funny dumb.” Lia whispered to me as we walked to class.

“Wait guys what did we say we are doing today?” Dan asked. “Oh my gosh Dan how many times do I have to tell you we are going bowling.” Maya said. “Dude relax I just said that so Lia can know what we are going to do.” He said and winked to Lia so she would go with it. “Yeah thanks Dan.” Lia said and hold her laugh. “This is where we are separating. Bye see you guys later!” Ella said and pushed Dan to their classroom.

Joey and Maya sat together because the teacher decided that she is going to help him with the class work, so I sat next to Lia. “Good luck Maya!” I yelled to her because they were sitting the other side of the class. “Funny.” She said and rolled her eyes.

Lia and I didn’t really pay attention to the teacher we were drawing a painting and every 1 minute switched the papers. at some point the teacher came to us and took the papers. Lia and I looked at each other while holding our laughs, that’s when I realized how beautiful and cute she is. As soon as I thought of that I quickly turned my head back to the board so I wouldn’t catch feelings for her.

A few minutes later Maya started yelling at Joey. “You are doing it all wrong! Bro it’s first grade math what the hell is wrong with you?!” She said and everyone started laughing. “Maya why are you yelling at me you make me feel so bad.” Joey said and used it as an excuse to get outside of the class. “Maya, go fixed what you did.” The teacher said and pointed to the door. “Fine.” Maya said. “It’s not what I did it’s your fault for deciding that I need to take care of him without asking first.” Maya mumbled to herself while walking out of the class.

Maya’s story:

“Joey! Joey where are you??” I said looking for him because I wanted to punch him. “Boo!” He said coming from behind. “What the hell was that?! Just because of you the teacher hates me.” I said. “Shut up you should be thanking me I got you out of the class.” He said and got closer to me. “I’m not gonna thank you being stupid.” I said and stepped back from him. “Thank me or I’ll do it again. But next time i’ll do worse.” He whispered and got closer while I was stepping away. “What the fuck are you doing?” I said and pushed him away. “Making you thank me.” He said while grabbing my waist and pulling me closer. “Joey… no.” I said and tried to walk away. “Haha you are so cute.” He said and let go of me and messed up my hair, no hair can get worse then his so I didn’t really mind. He put his arm around me and said “let’s get back to class.” “Umm no.” I said and stopped walking. “Why what’s wrong?” He asked and made a worried face. “Nothing we just have free time, let’s use it wisely.” I said. He smiled and asked “What you have got on mind?” “Ok so you get back to class and make a scene, you’ll say ‘Lia and Johnny come take care of that friend of yours Maya she is going crazy’ okay?” I explained him what to do. “Okay, what about Dan and Ella though?” He asked. “Leave that to me, I know exactly what to do.” I smiled and we split our ways apart.

I texted Ella and wrote “get ready” and a few seconds after I walked into their class and said. “Ella! I can’t believe you did that! And you Dan! You selfish idiots who doesn’t care about the people who cares about them!” I tried really hard not to laugh, Dan and Ella were so confused and that made that even funnier. “Maya, imma have to ask you to leave we are learning a new subject.” Their teacher said, I was really surprised he knew my name. “I’m not leaving without these 2!” I yelled at him. “Okay fine then, Ella, Dan get out of the classroom with her please.” He said. Dan and Ella were so confused but still got up and left the class. As soon as he closed the door I started laughing. “Girl what was that?” Ella asked. “Oh umm.. your brother.” I said so I wouldn’t have to tell all of what happened. “Make sense.” Dan said. A few minutes later Lia, Johnny and Joey came and both of them were also confused.

“Okay so what’s going on?” Johnny asked. “Joey got us all a free lesson.” I said and looked at Joey’s shiny blue eyes trying not to laugh at his blond messy hair. “Are we gonna party or something or just stand here like scarecrows?” Lia said and started walk around. “Yeah let’s go bowling now!” Dan said. “Dan? Wanting to skip school? Should we call the nurse or something?” Ella said and made us all laugh. “Yeah let’s go!” Joey yelled and we all got mad at him because someone might have heard.
