On the South Korean island of Jeju in the Korea Strait
Him and his father, along with a few others in their crew, were meeting atop an abandoned lighthouse to talk business with another outfit. They had gotten word of a foreign crew bringing in refugees for personal gain and pleasure. His father didn't agree with sex trafficking and wanted to bring them down. He and his uncle watched while his father talked with the foreigners.
"There are 20 refugees in the first batch. All young girls between the ages of 12 and 22. Feel free to keep one if you'd like." One of the men said.
"I'm afraid you came to the wrong address." His father says disgusted at the things the men were talking about.
"But it's good business. The merchandise is excellent. A real bargain. Some of them are barely twelve years old. It's a lot of money." The other man says, still trying to sell him on the girls.
"All you have to do help us get them here." The first guy says, hoping to bring his father in on the deal.
"My family has never been into this sort of business. I do not have to do anything. You are only wasting my time." The older man says, getting annoyed.
While his father talked, one of the guards came to him with a set of binoculars telling him about a girl on the beach bellow them. She was like an angel. Her beauty was like nothing he had seen before.
"I'm sorry . We didn't mean to offend you. Please think about it. You'll get a good cut." One of the foreigners said.
His father turned around seeing his son standing by the wall looking down at something. The older man stood, signaling his brother to take over the conversation. The older man walked to his son.
After a moment, the younger man turned to his father. "Fucking assholes." He said.
"However , he's a potential business partner. He deserves our respect. Even if he is an asshole." His father says to him.
"What were you looking at?" The older man asked, to change the subject, to which his son handed him the binoculars so his father could look.
"Oh, my son, you have to be careful. Beautiful women are heaven for the eyes, but hell for the soul." His father says chuckling.
"And purgatory for the wallet." The young man said earning a laugh from his father.
His father lowers the binoculars and turns to face his son. "Listen to me. It's time for you to stop thinking about fun and pleasure. You have to take on your responsibilities, okay?" The old man says.
He had looked down for a moment and his father put his hand on his shoulder to regain his attention. "One day, all of this...will be yours." He father spoke with so much wisdom. But their tender moment was ruptured by the sound of a distant gunshot then his fathers blood splattered his face and a sharp pain hit his side. His father dropped almost instantly the bullet piercing his heart then hitting the young man in the side. He stumbled for a moment his hand covering the wound then he too fell, going unconscious.
Visions of the young woman on the beach filled his mind he wasn't sure if he was alive or dead, if he was in heaven or only dreaming. Maybe this was one last evil trick god had for him, showing him the impossible, showing him the beauty he missed in life, the life chosen for him since before he was even conceived. He had heard that before you die, your life flashes before your eyes. But why was it her? Why was she the only thing he saw. Was he already dead, or was he dying? He didn't want to wake up but something in him told him to open his eyes. He needed her. But who was she? How was the angel he saw on the beach before he and his father were shot the only thing his mind was playing? Was she even real, did she really exist?
