The Raider's - Nightwing's POV

All Rights Reserved ©

Summary

Cursed was an original series made by me with the purpose of helping me improve my writing. However, as the story deepened, I fell in love with the plot and the world and decided to keep going on it. The series is focused on a group called The Outsiders. Cursed is split into 4 parts: Life Before, which follows the founding characters' lives before The Outsiders were created. The Raider's (1) Calamity's Control (2) and Vivir's Reign (3) All are sequels to Life Before.

Part 1

3 years after the disaster

He weaved through the trees, quietly and quickly. Hearing voices up ahead, he tucked behind a wide tree and peeked around. Seeing one walking behind the tents, Nightwing gripped his sword and pulled it out of the sheath. Taking a deep breath, he launched himself out behind the tree, catching the guard off guard, he slid his sword through him. Nightwing stood over the corpse, re-sheathing his sword, he dragged the body into the woods before entering the Raider’s Camp. He crept through the camp, occasionally hiding between the tents when a Raider passed by. He gazed out from the side, seeing a Raider exit one of the larger tents. It’s gotta be in there He observed, seeing multiple Raiders patrolling the camp. He jumped behind the giant tent, pushing himself against it and walking around. He noticed a guard in front, pulling his sword out, he kicked a rock as well as dust from the ground to get their attention. Holding his sword, and pushing against the back, he waited for the guard to come around and slice through him. Blood was dripping from his blade, but he dragged the body behind the tent and quickly made a run for inside. Surprised, there wasn’t anyone inside but he had to be quick. He searched the tent seeing a box. No lock? Confused, he opened the box revealing a small glowing sphere, much like the one his sister gave him. A pang of sadness came over him but was quickly interrupted by shouting, he picked up the glowing orb, letting it absorb into his hand, and he dashed out of the tent. A flaming arrow shot beside him. Nightwing looked up seeing people from the rock face. He made a dash for the woods as the camp around him burned. Hearing a bolt of lightning, he stopped and looked around. There isn’t a cloud in the sky, where did that come from?

There’s one!” A Raider shouted three more gathering beside them. One shot an arrow from his crossbow, but he dodged. Focusing his energy, he harnessed his newly gained power. An Ice trail starting from him, formed into an ice spike impaling one of the Raiders. Shocked, the other two fired two more arrows, but he dodged by raising a wall of ice and making a dash out of the camp. Whoever that was, they almost just blew my mission He thought.

He made it safely back to his camp. It wasn’t much, just a lean-to and a campfire. Nightwing walked towards the river, “I wonder if I can freeze it while I walk?” He thought. Letting his ideas and thoughts win, he stepped over the river, using his ice power to freeze it beneath him. He tried a small jump, seeing if it would hold him and it did. “What if I run?” Without waiting, he started dashing across the river, the ice freezing beneath him, but he felt his feet lose footing and started sliding uncontrollably off where he scrapped his arms and legs in the progress. “What did I think would happen? It’s still ice,” He reminded himself, dusting the dirt off his legs and arms and using his healing power to heal the scrapes. He trodded back to his camp, curious to learn more about the Ice power. Before reaching his base, he heard leaves rustle in the far distance. Picking up his sword before he left, he followed the sounds. “Raiders don’t know when to quit do they?” He crept low, careful not to make much noise to alert them of his presence.

As he grew closer, he could make out the figures. These were not raiders, judging by their clothing. They kind of look like the people from the Raider’s Camp He observed. He carefully crept around them through the trees, Once in front of them, he sent a trail of ice raising a wall in front of them. Alerted, they grabbed their swords and one had a crossbow. Nightwing dashed through the trees where he shot an ice spike at the group but it was easily blocked by one’s sword. Alright, enough teasing, let’s get some answers, He reminded himself. He stopped, emerging from the shadows of the trees, revealing himself. “I-” Before he could start, a bolt of lightning shot toward him, Quickly, he dodged, shooting an ice spike in its path causing the ice to shatter. A small splinter pierced through his skin making him wince. Lighting? He thought with a gasp. “Where did you find that power?”
