Chapter One

‘Humans are quite blind’

The teacher smiled at the eager faces looking up at him,

‘All around them is a wonderful world full of magic and mystery but they refuse to see it.’

‘Why?’

Caspian asked frowning the teacher turned to the little boy who spent every lesson asking the same question.

‘Because if they see it they must acknowledge its existence and that would mean accepting what they have spent their lives rejecting. They would rather live in their dull, grey little worlds than admit there is a far superior world of colour where they play a very insignificant part’

The little boy screwed up his face and it was clear he was going to ask again when a small voice piped up beside him,

‘Then they are fools. Our world is full of colour and adventure they are missing out on so much. If they would only accept their place and do as they are told we could all get along much better’

‘Wise words little Tegan. We should make allowances for them though. They are not as strong as us, they are weak and narcissistic ’

Before Caspian could ask why Tegan turned to him and said,

‘They only think of themselves Caspian’

Caspian frowned he liked to have the last word,

‘Humans are parasites, they breed like rabbits and are only useful as slaves. My Father say they are not even very good at being our slaves, especially the females. He says they are to fragile, one hard poke and they break and have to be replaced.’

The teacher bit his tongue,

‘I do not think you should repeat those kind of things in class Caspian’

Tegan giggled,

‘Better not say them in front of your Ma either Caspian’

Walking to the front of the class the teacher smiled to himself, Tegan never ceased to amaze him, her intelligence and understanding of the world around her far surpassed the rest of his class. The school bell rang bringing him out of his thoughts,

‘Okay, have a lovely afternoon children I’ll see you all bright and early tomorrow’

He watched them pick up their books and leave then tidied up his classroom and sat at his desk to prepare the next days lesson.

Caspian walked beside Tegan,

‘How come you are so clever?’

He asked her and she grinned at him,

‘Because I’m a Faery’

‘That’s not an answer, Faery’s are not that special’

He huffed looking at her through his long dark lashes,

‘You just think you are. Tegan why shouldn’t I tell my Mother about the female humans?’

Her laugh was beautiful, it tinkled out surrounding him in a bubble of happiness,

‘How do you do that?’

He giggled at her his brilliant blue eyes flashing with mischief,

‘Seriously Tegan, can you teach me?’

’She stopped and cocked her head on one side,

‘I don’t know Caspian, I’ve never taught anybody before’

Caspian looked at her, really looked at her for the first time, she was so pretty, long silver blonde hair falling in soft curls past her waist, and so dainty, it made him feel protective of her. His eyes met hers and he stepped back in surprise, her eyes were molten silver glittering like stars, he had never seen anything like it and was mesmerized

‘You can talk to me’

She reached inside his mind and Caspian’s eyes turned black and closed,

‘I cannot, the child is to young we do not join until we are ten years old’

Her laughter tinkled in the late afternoon sunshine and her eyes glowed,

‘I understand Santana, I can wait, this little Alpha boy, is mine. When the time is right you will both obey me’

The Wolf stared at the dainty child and felt her power touch him, slowly it bowed its head,

‘You are not our mate my Lady’

Santana looked into those unusual swirling eyes,

‘Of course not Wolf, he is just an Alpha, he is not worthy of me’

Santana was affronted on behalf of Caspian,

‘He will grow into a mighty Alpha, it is his destiny’

She turned to Caspian,

‘Physical strength is one thing Santana it is his intellectual strength that will decide the path he takes’

The Wolf retreated,

‘We shall see my Lady, we shall see.’

Tegan danced around Caspian giggling playfully,

‘I can’t teach you how to laugh, you already know how, faeries just do it differently’
