Prologue
Thando and I are holding hands, the five home test results all came out positive but I wanted us to be sure before settling that we are indeed pregnant. The doctor walks back in the room and he has this huge smile on his face making my stomach instantly turn.
‘Fuck no.’ I whisper wondering what I am going to tell Zac.
‘Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Mwape, you are two months up.’
‘Yes!’ Thando screams excitedly
‘If it’s a girl we are calling her Zara.’
‘I need a minute to breathe.’ I say tears falling as I play with my wedding band.
I rush out of the doctor’s office and into the corridors before finally going outside, I am crying uncontrollably and gasping for air like my life depends on it.
I don’t know where he comes from but Thando wraps his hands around me.
‘Breathe.’ He whispers in my ears
‘Breathe.’ He says again the words soothing me.
