A Mission
It’s not everyday that a portal opens up in your room and drops a human that looks like he’s been beaten to a pulp and then some
And yet there I was going through my closet when I heard a deafening bang. I jumped and smacked my head on the metal bar above me and cursed.
I quickly grabbed my coat and thew it over my shoulders. The thing was far to big for my body and it swallowed me in an unflattering way, but it brought me some comfort.
I kept my steps light and grabbed my knife from my dresser. Everyone in this town knows not to come onto my property let alone enter my home. The only one who'd be brave enough to disregard that fact would be an enemy or a stranger. I didn't take kindly to either.
I clenched my teeth together as I turned the corner of my bedroom. My eyes focused on broken vase on the floor and the marbles that I had been collecting where scattered in every direction. I then saw feet sticking out near my bed.
I moved quick to see the face of the intruder and upon first glance I knew his nose was broken and so was his arm. His dark hair was cascaded all over the glass from my marble jar, I quickly leaned in to hear his breathing. It was still strong but I had no way of knowing how long that would last. I’m sure landing on my dresser didn’t help his injuries.
I needed to alert jurisdiction about the human passed out on my floor, but as I stood up and looked over to my large window I froze. If I take him to jurisdiction they may kill him. No matter my influence, rules are set in place to keep people calm and if I go against that I might as well be deemed a traitor. I can't afford that title when I have my ceremony coming up.
The elders belived that the more humans to know about us and our world the more at risk were to be found by Soulek. We've remained without war for a century now and if he found us the war would be catastrophic and I would be at the face of ot all. Despite knowing this I couldn’t get my body to leave. Would I really be okay knowing I turned this human in and his death is on my hands?
Cursing under my breath I ran over to the kitchen in order to grab ice. I pulled a big bowl from the kitchen and began filling it up. I don’t even know why I’m doing this. I’m no doctor and the chances of him surviving in my care are slim but I figured this is better treatment than he would receive from anyone in jurisdiction.
I made my way across the room quickly and placed everything on my bedside table. I gently gathered him by the arms and drug him to my bed. When I finally was able to set him up I went to my bathroom to get a clean cloth to clean him with. He didn’t move or even flinch as I did a poor job cleaning his wounds. It seemed almost never ending. If there wasn’t an open wound then there were clear signs of internal trauma to his body. Whatever he went through he must have fought hard to escape. I passed the cloth over his hand gently.
As my adrenaline began to wear off I was beginning to understand my situation. I’m housing a human. Housing humans can be punishable by death. I pinched the bridge of my nose and let out a long sigh. What in the world am I doing? For all I know he could attempt to kill me when or if he wakes up. Sure he wouldn`t be successful but that doesn’t mean he wouldn`t try.
I stared at him for some time attempting to reason with myself that I should turn him in before it was too late but knowing what the outcome will ultimately be I couldn`t bring myself to do so. It was decided then that I had to help him escape if I didn`t want him to die. I checked his pockets in hopes to find a wallet or anything that could give me an idea of where he`s from or what his name could be.
I patted his pockets with no luck. Great. I know nothing about this man and the southern portal here in Raiden wont open for another month.
I knew I wouldn’t have many unexpected visitors because of my reputation in the town. Even if someone attempted to stop by I would know about it before they stepped foot onto my property. Not unless a portal opens in my room against. I considered moving houses but surely that would raise suspension.
If I could convince him to stay in the apartment or somehow manage to blend him in with the community I may be able to get him out unscathed but that’s only if he isn’t a difficult human. I tended to his wounds throughout the day but as night drew closer I could see that my attempts were failing.
As the chills started within the night I knew he wouldn’t survive very long if I didn’t get him proper help. I had no other choice but to seek help from someone who actually knew what they were doing. I removed my coat and held it tightly in my hand as I made my way to my window.
I paused.
If he were to wake up without me here he may use the opportunity to run and get caught. I walked back into the room and used a belt to tie his writs to the bed frame. It wasn’t going to be comfortable but it was going to have to work. I took one final glance at him and he shivered once more. That would be the push I needed to try to find him help.
Bringing my wings out was like second nature. I breathed in slowly and let the light that was buried in me out and it formed bold wings with passing colors or white and gold at the tips. I trusted my wings with my life. As long as I had light in me they would never fail me. I climbed onto the edge of my window taking a moment to look at the human one last time before I closed my eyes and jumped letting my wings guide me.
I set out to find Dr. Tahlyn.
