Her five Mafia brothers

Hi, my name is Morgan Welsh, I live with my mom in a small two-bedroom house down the road from my high school. I'm 17 with long brown hair and a muscular build, standing a five foot six. I don't know where my dad is, mom doesn't talk about him. Though I did find some pictures of her standing next to a man and four boys gathered around them.

My best friend's name is Carly, she's tall, blond, and has a perfect body. We became friends in second grade when she told off a boy for pushing me.

" Morgan get down here and make me breakfast," Mom calls. I guess it's time to start the day. I get up, wash my face and cover the handprint on my cheek with make-up, check on the bruise on my shoulder, and then my ribs that look like a two-year-old painted on me. Then go pick out an outfit. I need to do laundry soon, or I won't have any clothes to wear. I head to the kitchen to make eggs and toast for mom, then get an apple for me. My mom doesn't like it when I eat a lot, she says groceries cost too much for me to eat more. On my way back to my room she stops me by grabbing my arm "Where's my coffee?" Oh shit, I forgot. I'm going to have another handprint to cover. " I'm sorry, I for-" smack "Don't forget next time," My eye's start to water as I go back to my room.

After redoing my make-up and packing my bookbag, I started walking to school. As I walk the hall, I felt a few tugs on my hair, and someone trying to trip me. After I get to my locker grab my book, I head to class. School is my favorite time of the day, no yelling and getting hit. Mom wasn't always like this, but she started drinking after she lost her job seven years ago. Now we live on unemployment.

"Hey Morgan," Carly says walking up to me. We both have math for homeroom. "Hi" She sits down and starts talking about her new crush. I start thinking about my life and wonder what I did to make mom hate me "Are you even listening to me?" Carly asks while tapping my shoulder. I flinch slightly, mom shoved me into the wall two days ago because I was in her way.

Carly's eye's go soft as she asks if I'm okay, luckily the bell rings signaling the end of class. Wow, I must have been in deep thought for class to already be over. I get up and head to gym quickly to avoid answering. Gym is my least favorite.

After coach Dan takes attendance, we go change. While in the stall changing, I hear some girls taking about guy that went into the office dressed in a suit. Their talking about how hot one of them is when I walk out. " Were you ease dropping on our conversation?" Ashley sneers " No, I was changing," I say heading to the door. Her minion Barb grab's my arm tightly "watch how you talk to us, we run this school." I keep my head down and walk out after she lets me go. Yay, another bruise!

" We're doing laps, then soccer today, get running," Coach says. After two laps Coach calls me over. He tells me I'm being called to the office and to change and bring my stuff with me. I hope I'm not in trouble. The secretary tells me to go to the principal's office. I hear a "come in" after knocking.

I walk in and see the principal, a police officer, and a man in a suit. I freeze, noticing the man looks familiar.
