Exciting and Full of Potential
"(This review is for the first 16 chapters) The Daughter of the King is a unique mix of a classic pirate story and medieval fantasy with a promising story, developed characters, and a plot that never feels stagnant or boring. The writing style is dynamic, descriptive, and flows wonderfully. 👏 For readers, I 100% recommend this book if you want an exciting adventure with strong characters driving the plot 💪 The character work stood out the most to me, with each character having a unique personality that makes them stand out. Ray'ven is probably my favorite character so far. She's very multidimensional and her relationship with her father is really promising. I love how she constantly wants to please him and do what he would want her to, even when he's not around. It shows how much of an influence he's had on her. Ray'ven's personality did, however, feel a bit skewed sometimes. I had trouble discerning whether she was putting on an act to make her enemies underestimate her, or if she was genuinely afraid and unable to fight back at times? She's obviously a very strong female lead (I love how sassy she is) but her trained warrior persona was diminished for me by the number of times she lets herself get assaulted, gr*oped, or threatened with r*pe throughout the story (a bit too many times for my personal tastes). I do like how you depicted the main perpetrator of these attacks, Pudge, as vile and evil, which was definitely the right way to go. But I couldn't tell if you were trying to make Razmyr, another perpetrator, attractive? Just something to think about. 🤔 Lastly, the POVs. I wanted to compliment you on how you balanced each major POV so well, especially considering how many take place in different locations and with separate plotlines. Each is given enough time to feel developed without being overplayed, which is so hard to do 😅 Awesome work! Feedback-wise, there seemed a bit too many POVs to keep track of; multiple characters are given a point of view in the same scene, including insignificant ones. This can be a bit distracting and overwhelming. I'd stick to only giving perspectives to major characters like Ray'ven, Strel, James, Razmyr, and maybe Bynx if you need a character in the palace. Sticking to one POV per scene is also a good idea to avoid confusion. All in all, good work! A bit of editing and this has the potential to be really amazing. 😁 You're obviously a really talented author (I was really impressed with your descriptions! 🤩) so keep at it and keep writing!! "
