Chapter 1: Opener

“Mama! Mama! Look look!” I yelled as I twirled around in my new dress. The clearing of the forest was beautiful and the sun shined brightly overhead. My mother sat in a white sundress, wearing the flower crown I had made her. Her red hair tangled through the braids. “It looks so pretty on you, sweetie!” My mothers voice rang through the air. I watched as my father stepped from our cottage. It was of pure cedar wood that my parents had built before I was born. My father carried a basket in his hand and placed it next to my mother. I ran over and sat down excitedly next to my father. He handed me an apple slice and I happily bit into it. My father set out a small cake and cut a slice, handing it to my mother. My fathers eyes shined with love as he watched my mother take a bite. I watched as my father took his finger and dipped it into the whipped cream before placing it onto my mother cheek. I giggled as I then took my finger and repeated the action and placing it on my fathers cheek. My mothers laugh was beautiful and always made me feel better. My father joined in her laughter before kissing the whipped cream from my mothers cheek. Everything was perfect. My family. My life. My parents. I loved it all. This moment was the best thing ever to me. Its a shame all good things must come to an end.

I heard the gunshot ring through the air and the white of my mother dress was stained red with my fathers blood. The way my mother ran with me in her arms, trying so desperately to get me away from them. How they slit my mothers throat right in front of me before stuffing me into a cage and driving off.
