Born Of Flesh

“Aahh!”

A woman’s screams could be heard through a log cabin, light shining through the cracks from lit burning candles. She was alone at the moment; her husband went out to find them some food and water. The baby was due any day now and it

looks like it was tonight.

“N-No! Not yet...!”

She squeezed her legs closed, hugging the coffee table trying to brace herself. Her water had not broken just yet but these contractions were out of this world. It was then that her water broke, liquid sliding down both sides of her legs. She shuddered, sliding her hand down to feel the water that she hoped wasn’t there.

“O-Okay, I need to get into the bedroom. Come on Julia, y-you can do it.”

Julia took her time, slowly moving herself towards the room. She braced herself against the walls leading there as to not fall. Her husband should be on his way home, she just had to hold out for a little while longer. Now having made it into the room, she climbed up onto the bed with passing contractions. Her breaths became deeper and longer, sweat beginning to drip down her face.

The front door to the log cabin busted open, her husband walking quickly through. He didn’t see Julia but noticed the puddle of water in front of the table.

“Julia! Where are you?” He came rushing into the bedroom to see her there, holding their birthed child. She looked to be exhausted, the umbilical cord still attached as if she just now entered into the world. The baby girl cried slightly. It was fresh. There was blood beneath her staining the bed.

“Jake you came home...I-I couldn’t stop her from coming. It was time. I was so scared without y-you.”

Jake came close and gave her a slight hug with their daughter in her arms. He then cut the cord from her and baby, discarding it.

“I know and I am sorry that I wasn’t here when it happened. We have little time to spend here and then we have to get moving. The vampires are on the move and they are getting closer. When I was hunting I spotted one alone in the area. It must of been a scout sent out to look for us.”

Jake made sure the doors were locked and half the candles were burnt out. He then made his way into the small storage closet to grab a blanket for the baby and handed it to Julia.

“Jake, take her...get her cleaned up first. If we have to leave this place tonight the both of us have to get clean. They will smell the blood.”

He nodded and took her gently, the baby cooing in his arms. Into the small bathroom they went. The water was turned on to a normal temperature as he washed away the blood into the sink.

While he was giving the baby a wash, Julia slid herself up onto the bed by her hands. She winced and groaned, minor pain coming from her private area. Her bloody clothing was taken off and thrown onto the side of the bed. Julia could see herself, blood continuing to slightly glide off of her thighs onto the bed.

Julia took a minute to rest, soon it was her turn to get cleaned up.

“Okay, honey she is clean now. I am bringing her back in. She is all dried off and ready for that blanket.”

Jake brought her back into the room and wrapped her up in the blanket. He made sure she was dressed, swaddled and was comfortable. Then he looked at his wife.

“Okay, now it is your turn. Let me get you. She will be fine.”

“O-Okay...”

Jake grabbed ahold of Julia, having her brace him to get her into the bathroom. She struggled to walk but made it inside. He washed her up as best as possible and got her a new set of clothing.

Now that they were clean, Julia changed into her outfit and slid on her hunting boots.

“Well then, time to go. Soon they will smell the blood and come running. It is dangerous to stay here now.”

Jake looked at the two of them, giving both a kiss on the forehead. He grabbed his hunting gun and ammunition to go with it.

“You did good Julia, real good.”

Julia smiled, tearful as she hugged him with the baby in her arms.

“Let’s go.” Julia said.
