Wizard's Debt

Hermione tries to control her temper, she really does but it's no use.

Bill's wedding had just finished and the 'Golden Trio' had retreated to Ron's bedroom to talk, or, more accurately, for Ron and Harry to gang up on her.

Hermione rolls her eyes as she fights the urge to hex both boys. "I will not!" She snaps stomping her foot, her rising temper causing the mirror on Ron's drawer to shatter. "I will not allow you two to run off and get yourselves killed. I'm coming with you!"

Harry swallows and glances at the mirror before attempting to calm his friend. "But what about your parents?"

"What about them? They're better off without me at the moment unless you've forgotten about the genius lunatic running around and trying to purify the world." Hermione spits out. "Besides, if I'm not with you then who's going to save you and figure out the truth? And don't you dare say I'll be in danger either." She threatens.

"But you will be in danger!" Ron argues.

"So will both of you!" Hermione comments, shoving her finger into Ron's chest causing him to topple backwards onto his bed. "And if you've forgotten I know more spells and hexes then both of you combined!" Ron opens his mouth to fight back but Hermione once again interrupts. "I want to come and you can't stop me." She retorts before taking a deep breath and attempting to calm herself. "Besides, even if I didn't want to come I'd have to anyway."

"What are you talking about?" Harry asks, trading a look with Ron. "You don't have to do anything." He comments confusedly.

Hermione blinks, staring at the boys incredulously before shaking her head. "You don't get it do you? I owe you a wizard's debt, a life debt, both of you." She states carefully, technically she also owed Professor Snape a life debt due to his actions in third year outside the Whomping Willow. Of course, she wasn't going to tell them that.

"What? When? How?" Both boys ask shocked.

"First year, troll in the bathroom. Sound familiar? I hold no useless hopes about the incident, I would have died if you hadn't stupidly shown up and saved me. Even Professor Dumbledore admitted it though he did tell me not to tell you until it was necessary. So I'm going and that's that." Crossing her arms over her chest Hermione flops onto the bed beside Ron. She glares at both her boys daring either of them to say anything more.

Harry and Ron once again share a look before Harry sighs and flops down on the other side of Ron. The small bed groans under the weight of the three best friends but it holds steady, outside the sound of laughter wafts up through Ron's partially open window. "We're really gonna do this aren't we?" Ron asks suddenly, looking at his friends' reflection through the cracked mirror. "It doesn't seem real."

"The more real you get, the more unreal the world gets." Hermione quotes reciting John Lennon's words from memory.

Heika van Walderveen: I had to get used to the style. It’s a lot of switching and getting back into the story of the characters. Also the different timelines were a bit confusing in the beginning. But once you’re used to it, it’s really quite original. The plot is good, but it’s only book 1 (out of 3), but so far so good...
