Book 1: Entry One

Hello, my name is Guirec.

I have decided to begin documenting the strange happenings that have been occurring in the castle that I just bought.

I am a lawyer, but not one of those college-grad ones. I studied on my own and managed to pass the bar exam without attending college. Actually, if I’m being completely honest, I didn’t even graduate high school.

I digress, though…

I have been paid lots of money for helping lots of clients, and so I decided to take a year off and live in solitude in a castle that I bought for a surprisingly low amount of money.

The castle is over 20 miles away from any towns, and the nearest house (that I know of) is over 15 miles away.

Well, I’ve only been here for a week, but I’m starting to perhaps realize why I got this castle for such a low price.

I’m just going to put the cookie on the lowest shelf for you.

Stuff has been moving around.

Sometimes I’ll hear noises, and I’m not sure if they’re just normal sounds or not, but I can say for sure that things have been moved that I HAVEN’T moved.

“So,” you might ask, “why not just ditch your potentially dangerous abode and head back to civilization?”

“Or,” you might ask, “why not invite others to stay with you so that you’ll have safety in numbers?”

If you can’t understand why I don’t do those things, then you don’t understand me at all.

I dedicated myself to passing the bar exam without going to college, and I DID it.

I dedicated myself to taking on difficult cases that would make me lots of money, and I DID it.

And, I’ve decided to live alone in this castle for a year, and I’m going to DO it.

Anyway, though, let’s get to the moving things in this castle.

There’s a suit of armor that was definitely set up in the kitchen when I first got here, but then I was puzzled (and a bit shocked, frankly) to find that it had moved over to the dining room.

Then there’s a treasure chest that was originally in the room that I’ve been sleeping in, but I woke up one morning to find that it was gone!

I searched around, and eventually found it in a closet.

I still haven’t opened the treasure chest. Maybe I will at some point.

The final item that I know for sure has switched locations is a crown that I presume may have been worn by the monarch who ran this castle back in the day.

At first it was in the throne room, but then I was more than a bit creeped out to find that it had moved over to the execution room.

It was after finding the crown in the execution room that I decided to start writing.

I’m not sure when I’ll add more to this notebook, but it seems like I probably will.

I figure that there must be someone here with me who’s moving things around, and I intend on figuring out who it is.

A more superstitious me might think that this place is haunted or something, but I’m not really the sort to believe in those sorts of explanations.

I’m not someone who completely rules out that supernatural things could somehow happen, and an example of this is that I do think that some sort of God might exist.

But even the sort of God who I think might exist is one who sort of got everything started supernaturally but guided how everything developed within non-supernatural perimeters.

This perspective on the supernatural leads me to be quite confident that (even if supernatural events related to Earth may have happened billions of years ago) the explanation for the armor, treasure chest, and crown, moving around in this castle is not a supernatural one.
