Communist Takeover

There was no chance after the German Civil War pushed Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party from ever gaining power. From then, the USSR formed a campaign to take Europe with Communism. First, Poland. Soon Italy followed and Spain came out third, a bloody civil war ripping it apart. “Socialist State of Spain”, they called themselves. Great Britain came just a few months later, Scotland, England and Wales forming Socialist Greater Britain. The rest built itself the name Old Britain, but it really was just a handful of cities that built walls and faced their guns outwards. They could barely be called a country or state.

Czechoslovakia began its democratic reforms in the late thirties, the Liberty Union Party rising at the turn of the decade. Emil Novák was elected in 1940, loved by the people. With him came the term “Bastion of Democracy”. After the New Hungarian Empire took on Communism, the democracy nearly ended. The USSR had been influencing the region for years, but Novák, the greatest president the region had ever seen, had reached his last nerve, yet Czechoslovakia’s cries for help remained unanswered as the USSR loomed overhead. At the same time, Germany annexed Austria, surrounding Czechoslovakia.

Novák formed an intelligence agency, not unlike other world superpowers at the time. The focus of this one, however, was a bit different. The Czechoslovak Anti-Communist Shield’s goal was to fight Communism in Czechoslovakia and the surrounding areas. The agency was successful in its purpose of keeping Communism out, but they didn’t think of what would happen when the Communists wanted democracy out.

The beginning of the end started with a blast of confusion. Czechoslovakian armies stood idle as the borders were breached, unknowing. Within 48 hours though, resistance was brutal. The entire southern tail of the country was war torn and occupied as armies and divisions fought a losing battle. Italian legions and Hungarian “liberators” were larger and faster than the Czechs could ever be. Of course, not one country moved to intervene aside from its doomed partners, France and Belgium.

It took just four weeks to end European life as was known, beginning with the annexation of Austria and ending with the fall of Czechoslovakia.

Nowhere did the Czechs expect such a leap in aggression. It was so fully unexpected, their spies and intelligence agencies hadn’t gotten a hint of it on the wind, nor an alert in time to warn them. They were all completely and downright stranded. Of 7,936 known operatives in the field, only 103 were warned to abandon posts or flee. In the light of the chain of events, many records were found before they could be destroyed. The records revealed the locations and assignments of the operatives, causing executions and manhunts. It is unknown how many escaped, but estimates placed it at under 2,000 operatives just two days after total invasion.

Some operatives were captured and killed. Others tortured to no end. It could be seen that the government wished more had been supplied with suicide pills. It was too late now. Those that were discovered couldn’t escape if they tried.

Elysiagems: Hi Marcy,I went into The Pack - On the Run bracing myself for the usual "oops, I’m a werewolf clichés, but then Josie’s dad decided to skip the Father of the Year awards and go full-blown villain at a petrol station.
