Chapter 1
Life does not give us exactly what we want. And Alpha Eric Learned that in a way he would never forget.
Eric has been one of the most arrogant and selfish alphas there was in the south side of California. And he has his reasons to be cocky. He is young and has a powerful pack to command, but with all that power there is solitude as well. Therefore, his need for a mate has come.
Although Eric doesn't want just any mate, he has a type. He wants his mate to be beautiful, intelligent, graceful and a ranked wolf like his ex-girlfriend Courtney. She would be his perfect match.
Courtney is the daughter of the next-door Alpha. She met Eric in high school, and they dated for the four years they were in high school until they graduated. After the graduation Courtney did not see Eric again but that did not keep Eric from obsessing over her.
Time passed and Eric's 19 birthday was approaching, he wanted to contact Courtney to invite her to his party, he wanted to find out if she was his missing piece. The first time he tried to reach her, Courtneys father answered her phone and said to Eric that she was not home and the other three times he called her the call went to the voice mail.
He stopped calling her and accepted that she didn't want to know about him, but on his birthday, she called him only to break his heart again. Courtney said to him that they could not be together anymore and that they should wait for their fated mates.
Eric tried to argue with her, and convince her that they could be mates, to give him a chance. But she didn't agree with him and said that they couldn't be mates because she felt a strong attraction towards someone else. After some intense minutes of arguing without making any progress Courtney ended the call wishing Eric a happy birthday.
Eric felt offended by Courtneys words and said to himself that he would not be second best. That if she rather be with someone else, that she could forget about him. With that said he did not insist on seeing her anymore.
Nine months later after he spoke with Courtney, Eric received the news that Courtney indeed was mated to another wolf, and he was the beta from her pack.
Eric was disappointed, heartbroken with the news. He did not know how to relieve all the tension and pain he felt towards Courtney, his heart felt so much sorrow. What would he do now that the only female he was interested was mated to someone else. The only solution he could find in that moment was to let his wolf free and run to the woods.
While running through the woods in his wolf form, he scented a wonderful smell, it was the smell of blueberries mixed with raspberries, his favorite fruits. He followed the smell that led him to a small cottage at the edge of his pack ground.
There at the skirts of his territory a young girl that looked around fifteen years was sitting outside a small cottage looking up at the stars. Eric noticed that she was the one emitting that delectable scent. Eric frowned, he had seen that girl before at school. She was in first year of high school, the same year he graduated.
His lips made a snarl, this girl could not be his mate. She was an omega, and she came from a poor family. What would the others think of him? If he took her as his mate the other members in the pack would make fun of him and mock her, they would not respect her.
There were many reasons he could not claim her as his mate, not to mention of her being an omega, he had to wait five more years until she reached breeding age to mate her. Omegas were the only ones that could scent their mate until they were twenty, there wolf sense were less sharp than the ranked wolfs.
With annoyance he growled and walked away. What is he going to do now?
The moon goddess must be playing a trick on him. Surely his mate was a rich she-wolf and not this mongrel, but the scent he caught was of his mate. He huffed in desperation a million thoughts crossing his mind. What is he going to do with her?
The one good thing about this mess was that she would not recognize him as a mate yet. She is too young to recognize him.
Eric would take advantage of that knowledge that she was too young to figure out they were mates and form a plan to get rid of the mate bond before she reached her twenties.
As the days passed, he did not know what to do with Aly. His wolf would argue with him that he wanted his mate, when the time came to claim her. Simon his wolf did not care that she was an omega.
Eric would shut his wolf down by putting a mental barrier between them. He did not want to listen to his annoying wolf when he talked about his mate and that she would be perfect for them.
Two more months passed, and Eric was feeling relentless after he found his mate. He was thinking of vanishing Aly from the pack, that way she would not recognize him as her mate when she reached twenty.
Yes, that was the best option he came up with, vanishment but what excuse could he give the pack members? He could not just vanish a pack member without a reason even if she was a low omega. He decided to wait for a while to figure out what lie he could invent to remove Aly from his pack.
Meanwhile outside of his house there was a rumor circulating that would change his plans for the time being.
Eric's beta came one day to his office to give him the new gossip that was traveling around the packs. That the beta from the next-door pack had passed away in a rouge attack.
Eric could not believe the news his beta was giving him. Courtney was free again. He could court her again, his lips stretched to a huge grin when he thought of Courtney in his arms again.
Eric felt an obsession for Courtney that surpassed his pride he would have her as his mate no matter that she rejected him before. He could go and comfort her and lend her his shoulder to cry on, then maybe he could mate her and have a worthy mate.
He was conjuring his new plan to woo Courtney, when his wolf reminded him of his true mate. She was still in the picture.
He gritted his teeth in anger, he had to get rid of the omega once and for all therefore he decided in a drastic decision: he had to take care of Aly in another way other than being expelled from his pack. She had to vanish from this life.
Aly was running late for her first class; her small house was far from the school grounds. All the omegas were cast to the outskirts of the pack lands thus she could not arrive at the time she was supposed to be at school. When she almost reached the gate of the building. The new alpha appeared in front of her, blocking the entrance.
Before she could speak a word to the alpha and ask him if she was in trouble. Eric spoke first. “Hi, Aly I would like to have a word with you today if you are available.” Aly could not understand what was happening, the alpha wanted to talk with her, and he addressed her by her name.
Aly's eyebrows pinched together in thought at her alpha's words. What did alpha Eric want from her? Did she do something bad? She tried to keep out of trouble. She had enough problems with the other she-wolfs bullying her for being a low-class omega.
Eric noticed the uneasy feeling in her and tried to seem more friendly. " It is nothing bad Aly, what I want to speak with you I just want to know you and ask you questions about the omegas that live close to you."
Aly didn't understand the sudden interest of her alpha toward her or the other omegas, but she was curious and wanted to know what his true intentions and plans were. Therefore, she agreed to speak with him, she thought they would speak right now, but she was wrong.
“Ok, alpha where would you like us to speak, here or somewhere else?"
Eric smiled at her coldly, she was naive to trust him but that could work in his favor.
“I was thinking we could meet later on, I have some errands to do right now. How about we meet at midnight near the twisted tree. You do know where it, is don’t you?” Eric questioned her.
Aly nodded her head in a yes motion making Eric grin.
“Well then, I would meet you there at midnight, don't be late.” With that said Eric left Aly there standing wondering if she made the right choice.
