To stand in another's shoes...
"The style of poetry, is raw, simple and very relatable in its essence. That's not to say that there is no imagination or imagery, because there certainly is, and it is used to great effect. There is also a weariness and exhaustion to the writing, that brings about a familiarity in the reader, calling to vulnerabilities. Heartache, the darker and selfish side of human nature is easily shown here as well. The rhythm and fluidity of the writing is beautifully consistent, and seamlessly fitting in the author's tone of voice, which is unique. There is originality and understanding throughout the poems, which brings about an instant connection, while enticing the reader to continue to turn the page. Overall, the reading experience was moving, brimming with empathy and understanding. The difficulties of growing, maturing and encountering the darkness and unpleasantness of such a time, leave a profound impression of the strength needed in each of us, to at times, face those who are closest to us. I would absolutely recommend reading this book."
Soulful Honesty
"Ernest Hemingway once said, "There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed." With this collection of poetry, that is precisely what the author has done. "On My Own" is an honest, soul-baring expression of a lifetime of deceit, hurt, abandonment, and being taken advantage of (not to mention being taken for granted as well), but it is not all darkness and strife. The fact that the author was able to turn these obstacles into something productive and creative is testament to both their emotional/personal success and skill as a poet. It is not easy to lay one's innermost feelings, thoughts, and past trials out there for everyone to read, but it is another thing entirely for them to do so in a quietly triumphant manner that, while the title may imply something negative, is actually a testament to their own innate strength. It is not easy to be on one's own, but if you can overcome this initial hurdle and emerge stronger and wiser than you were before, then you can claim victory. I highly recommend this collection to anyone who may be going through a low period in your life, because I promise you that it will afford you some time to reflect on and recognize your own strengths, which will take you one step closer to healing those invisible wounds. "
I felt the sadness pouring from each stanza so clearly.
"In the world of poetry, there are pieces that manage to evoke emotions so profoundly that they become an experience in themselves. "On My Own" is one such poem that effortlessly transports its reader into a realm of melancholy and introspection. From the very first line, the words whisper with delicate sorrow, painting a tapestry of emotions that feels almost tangible. The poet's mastery in expressing the depths of their sadness is evident, as each stanza unfolds with poignant beauty. With every word carefully chosen, the somber tone encapsulates the reader's being, inviting them to explore the complexities of their own emotions. The imagery employed in this piece resonates on a profound level, breathing life into abstract concepts of heartache. The vivid use of metaphors and symbols paints a haunting portrait of grief, leaving an indelible mark upon the reader's psyche. The poet's ability to convey pure emotion through the written word is commendable. The sadness, raw and unfiltered, drips from each stanza, leaving a lasting impression on the reader's soul. "On My Own" touches upon the universal experiences of loss and longing, reminding us of the power that poetry holds to capture the essence of our shared human experience. This poem is a testament to the profound beauty that can be found within sadness. It is an invitation to embrace our emotions and find solace in the darkness."
