Chapter 1

The time is currently six fifteen in the evening in the great state of New York. The city lights are out in full effect. Dressed a simple white cotton tee, knee length body hugging dress, with a simple gold link chest length chain, three- and four-inches strappy gold heels and bouncy natural black curls, loose and flowing. Riele was dressed simple but nice enough for her dinner appointment with her mom and her mother's fiancé. Not a stitch of makeup, a small crossbody black leather purse, big enough to hold her phone, ID and a few dollars, her reading glasses firmly in place Riele parked on the side street in front of her mother's home. She stepped out the car and placed her purse over her shoulders.

The temperature was not so cold or hot in the NY month of November. The evenings and nights were cooler but not so that she needed a jacket, it felt just right.

Making her way to her mother's front door Riele took in a deep breath. She wasn't nervous or anything she just needed to settle into a different emotion and focus on dinner at hand. She had classes all day and her mind needed a bit of rewiring from academics to chill and relax mode. Knocking on the door it was a several seconds wait until she heard footsteps on the other end. The door opened to her smiling mother Taraji and her fiancé Mamjoong Min.

"Ri baby!" Her mother said excited embracing her into a gentle hug.

"Hi Mom." Riele said back with a smile taking in her mom's comforting scent. She was relaxed already knowing her mom could do that with one touch. To say she and her mom were close was an understatement.

Her mom let go of her embrace to stare at her daughter a minute. Riele was always the twinkle in Taraji's eyes, her one and only baby. Riele smiled back softly as her attention turned to Namjoong.

"Riele princess you look beautiful." Min said holding his arms out as Riele hugged him.

She truly like Min. He and her mom were dating for three years until he popped the question several months ago. They happened to meet each other at Starbucks in what her mother swear was a meet cute as they were booth typing on their laptops working and started up a conversation where sparks flew from then on, they were inseparable.

"Thank you, Min., I'm happy to be here." Riele responded.

"Ok guys why don't we head for the dining room and get dinner started. The table is already set." Taraji said happy.

The three walked together through the modernly decorated home. Taraji's style was quite simple. Nothing too fancy or over the top. Each room had its own theme with light neutral colors of beige, wood brown or white. Minimal pictures on the walls or mantle except family photos and a few decorative portraits.

While Min and Riele sat to the table Taraji went into the kitchen to get their dinner.

"Mom I can help." Riele offered shouting so her mom could hear her.

"No baby I got it. It's not that much." Taraji assured back.

Riele just sighed happy as Min spoke.

"How was school today princess?" He asked.

"Classes are always killer Min. When I signed up for communications, I did not know it was going to be this involved."

"Well princess it's a good field to be in and think of the reward of you becoming one of the top journalist one day."

"You are right, that is my goal and I'm going to make damn sure I get to it."

Min tapped her hand gentle. "That's it princess, I'm so proud of you. I know you won't give up. "

"Ok guys dinner is served." Taraji came out the kitchen with a tray. A pot with soup or something.

"Mhmm, it smells good and familiar honey. What is it." Min asked taking the heavy tray from her and resting it in the middle of the table.

"Well, I figured since this was a special occasion for your big promotion, I'd treat you to something home made from your country love." Taraji said as she sat next to Min facing Riele on the opposite side of the table.

"Oh goody." Min said happy uncovering the pot to reveal spicy Korean noodles.

Everyone picked up their chopsticks and started taking out their noodles. Min had taught both Taraji and Riele how to use them when he had moved in with them about two years into the relationship.

"Oh Mom, this is so good." Riele said digging in hungry.

"I concur." Min said eating happily.

"So, Min you got a promotion?" Riele asked proud.

Taraji and Min looked at each other knowingly for a brief second before he answered. "Yes princess, I got moved up from junior executive in the company to partner." He smiled.

"That's amazing Min. I'm so proud of you." Riele got up to hug him. He hugged her back as Taraji looked on a bit hesitant.

Min looked at his fiancé encouragingly knowing her thoughts and fears. While his promotion was an accomplishment, he knew getting it would come with a lot of sacrifices.

"Princess thank you. Sit so your mom and I can talk to you a second." Min smiled softly.

Riele sat looking at them both puzzled. She wasn't sure what they wanted to say but knew it had to be important given the serious looks on their faces.

"Princess while this promotion is a good thing, it ahh...." Min hesitated for a moment to choose his words carefully because he knew this wasn't going to be easy. He took a breath and started again. "While it's going to be beneficial in terms of financial and the many benefits that comes along with it, it also comes with changes."

"What sort of changes?" Riele asked curious as she sensed something brewing looking at her mom and Min.

Taraji held her fiancé hand, finally finding her voice to speak up. "What Min is trying to say sweetheart. His job gave him the promotion, but he has to relocate to the main company in South Korea." Taraji looked at her child knowingly.

Riele's eyes wheeled from her mother to Min as she processed their words for a second. Her forehead knotted and her breating accelerated a bit more. "So, you're trying to tell me you guys are moving to Korea?" She asked point blank.

Taraji gulped a little. "Well, hopefully honey we all can move to Korea......you know the three of us." Taraji said with her voice dropped nervous.

Riele just looked at her mother blankly not picking up her words at first until it really sank in. "What?" She shrieked standing abruptly. She didn't know whether she was stunned or pissed.
