My name is Dr. Anton Carmichael. I am a veterinarian and the Commander of an Anomaly Research Foundation’s “F.E.A.R. (First Encounter Anomaly Research) Team.” I, along with a handful of other scientists and Foundation Agents, have been tasked by Dr. Charles Hendriks to track, contain, and study Anomalies - supernatural and otherworldly creatures that roam our plane of existence.
I never believed in monsters before I joined the Foundation, though, I suppose “monster” is not the appropriate term. “Nightmare” is more accurate. In the event of my untimely demise at the hands of an Anomaly, let this journal stand as a record of my time with the Foundation and the events that played out.
Tomorrow, I lead Sigma Team to the Huron Mountains. We’ve received reports of strange deaths in and around the area. Several bodies have been found, dismembered and disemboweled. I’m not sure what to expect, but our research suggests we may be dealing with the evil spirit of hunger and famine.
We leave first thing tomorrow morning.
