Prologue
Will it be enough? A new place? New people? Can I really escape the hold he has on me by changing zip-codes? Time zones?
Charlie questioned herself. Running through all the possibilities of a new life in her mind. Wondering if she could truly outrun something that had consumed so much of her life. Someone who she gave so much of her time to. That she gave her heart to, only to have him rip it to pieces right in front of her.
She didn’t really know how to start over. Didn’t know who she was on her own, but she did know that she needed this. She wouldn’t survive if she stayed in Washington. She wouldn't be able to stop looking over her shoulder, wondering if he was there. If he’d be around the corner in the grocery store, or at the bar where she meets her friends. That would be the hardest part. Saying goodbye to her friends and family, leaving them behind. But it seemed like a necessary sacrifice to save her own happiness, her sanity, and possibly her life.
