Chapter 1:

Eloise was a lucky girl. She is beautiful, nice, and dreamy. Anyone who sees her cannot forget her; it’s like magic. She has long blond hair like water waves, blue eyes resembling the ocean and sky intertwined, and thin, bony fingers that work magic. She is cursed by the power of nature and gifted with it at the same time.

Having such power can bring trouble and enemies, and she has both, unfortunately. But don’t worry, my dearest reader. She has friends, one of whom is jealous but helpful. We are human, with flaws ingrained in our bones, blood, and nature. We’re chaos and peace, black and white, love and hate, fire and water, life, and death.

If you are blessed, you must embrace this into your life, with all its pain. You must open your arms to this pain and embrace it tightly. It must burn you inside and destroy you, suck your soul, and give birth to you again. As I told you, two beautiful things cannot be together.

Thinking these thoughts in that small, warm cabin made her want to leave. How could one see such a gift as trouble? Eloise wondered if it were possible, but it wasn’t, or maybe just for her. She got up from the cold wood where she was lying and smoothed her white, thin linen dress twice with her bony hand. Ah, the linen never stayed without wrinkling, which could be considered a big trouble. If only there were a spell for that, she could use it every day with joy. But, she said, after all, two beautiful things cannot be together.

The scent of newly collected lavender mixed with beeswax candles. The cinnamon and sage tea she threw into the fireplace were enough to purify her from all negative energies. ’Ah, you stupid Farh, you blocked all my energy with stupid ideas. Longing for an ordinary life like others... They would die for this power that we have, but my friend is thinking about having an ordinary life. This is a disloyalty to nature, but no, she doesn’t understand.

I am happy with my talent, happy with what nature gave me, happy with the prophecy and institution that I have. It is who I am, my identity, my soul, and my heart. It is a gift from God. How could I be happy without this, without burning my candles and without going into the forest to gather new plants? I can’t imagine myself in an ordinary life. It’s not what I need, it’s not what I have.

The fire in the fireplace flared up, the cat ran to the window, and the flames in the candles danced with panic. Something was amiss. Something was wrong. Horsemen. They are coming. Eloise heard whispers. ‘Run. They are coming for you, Eloise. Run. The Queen is asking you. Run. They will burn you. Run. They will kill you. Run. Run for your life. Run for your life, Eloise.’
