CHAPTER ONE - AURORA
The rain is pouring relentlessly over the deserted streets of Veridian, a city cloaked in darkness and ruled by the merciless hands of the underworld. My footsteps echo all around bouncing off of falls of old houses. Splashing of water as my boots swim in water. My steps are quick as I hurry down the sidewalk. The rain is soaking me in its tears as it pours its heart out.
It’s late or rather early. It’s still dark and the only source of light are flickering sidewalk lamps. One goes out completely and my heart rate picks up. Even though I walk the same route every day it’s still scary. I don’t live in a safe neighbourhood at all. This is the dark side of the city as everyone calls it. But I don’t have the luxury to live on the other side.
I work at a dive bar just a few blocks from where I live in a run-down apartment. It’s even worse on the inside than the outside. There is mould everywhere, water leaking through the roof thanks to the fact I live on the top floor. There is the minimum furniture a person needs. A bed, a closet that holds the little amount of clothes I own and a bar stool that’s next to the kitchen counter and serves as a dining table. But it has to do for now.
When I finally save enough money, I’ll get out of here and never look back. It has been my dream since I was a young girl and one day, I’ll make it come true.
I’m only a block away from my apartment when there is a rustling noise behind me. Maybe it’s a rat or some leaves.
But before I can turn around and see what’s the source of the sound a hand clamps over my mouth covering my surprised scream. A dark cloth is thrown over my head and I’m swallowed by darkness. I can hear two men talking and the sliding of a car door.
A van really? How predictable. What the heck is wrong with me? I’m being kidnapped, probably, no not probably. I’m being kidnapped most definitely and the only thing that comes to mind is that they came in a van like in some movie.
I should be worried about other things like what are they going to do to me and why have they taken me in the first place. The hand is removed from my mouth only to be replaced by some kind of cloth. I start to feel sleepy, and my eyes are drooping.
They drugged me. My mind becomes hazy, and I can’t sit up strait anymore. The last thing I register before I lose consciousness is my body hitting the floor.
