|| Prologue ||

It was a strange sight, never have these grounds found such peace.

No-one stayed still.

Some fled, almost as if they knew our karma was already on the loose.

Others wrapped arms around those close, rocking each other side to side. I stood still.

Making a seat out of the broken rumble beneath, laying back with an arm covering my sight; as if I was in a field of fresh grass sun bathing.

I imagined I was, at least.

I must have seemed hysterical to those who looked around.

Quietly I laughed, my wand being thrown around in my fidgeting hand. There was a shift beside me, I didn't care to look and catch the culprit.

I couldn't care about anything at all at that moment.

Softly, they whispered, "Jinx". I posted an arm beneath my head and looked over, putting a play of a careless expression.

He held a smile, after everything he still held that stupid smile.

"How are you?", ironic really, that he out of everyone could ask how someone is.

My answer was in the same almost seductive tone he whispered my name, "Waiting for my turn to be thrown into a cell, how is the one and only Harry Potter?'.

"It's over now" - his smile never faltered, now looking down at the smashed rock - "We'll never have to fight him again".

Harry glanced at me, giving a shake of his head before running both hands through his matted hair.

"What are you going to do after now?"

"I just told you"

My answer seemed to make him laugh like I told the funniest joke, "I'm serious"

"so am I"

"You'll all have a trial before anything, you know? Like the one I had in fifth year"

Letting out a huff and gazing up at the empty sky, "Potter, I didn't cast a spell underage, I fought on the wrong side of the war".

Brushing off what I had just admitted, he casted me his undying smile, "in the end you chose the right side, that's all that matters"

"Potter, did you hit your head and forget-"

"Please, Jinx, call me Harry" he pleaded with so much desperation it was almost a whine, his smile now finally dying down.

The sound of wheels roughly falling onto the pavement before scratching along it filled the emptiness around us.

Looking over at him from where I laid, already having a grasp of his attention, I bit the inside of my cheek anticipating the dread of what I needed to do.

"Harry, will you do me a favor?" His smile completely faltered at this, licking the outside of his lips as his hands clasped together.

"Of course"

Passing my wand to the hand closest to him before pushing it towards Harry, "Hold this for me" I said it in a whisper with a smile masking over my face as if I was passing him a note in class, bringing a finger to my lips in a "hush" afterwards.

He looked down at the unfamiliar wand in his caked with dirt hands, tossing and turning it around as he observed it.

The scratching got closer, and closer. Harry pocketed the wand before getting himself up, heading towards the couple wrapped around each other gazing over the damage.
