Don't knock twice

I'm going to start this off by saying this happened when I was a teenager . Back then i was a thrillseeker .I used to listen to horror stories all the time and I also liked the idea of visiting abandoned places . I remember I used to do a lot of research on abandoned places , it was soo interesting to me . The main question that would pop up in my head was why was this place abandoned? .

The Taj building was one of the places i researched mainly because it was within walking distance from my house. The Taj building was not like most abandoned places I've researched .The building was famous for all the wrong reasons. For starters ,It was one of the most popular suicide spot in the city. Not only that ,but it was abandoned for all the wrong reasons . The construction of this building was started in 1940 but it's still not finished. The reason for that is every time constriction began workers started committing suicide. It didn't stop with just workers ,teenagers started committing suicide by jumping off the 8th floor . It was always the 8th floor. As the years passed, one contractor after another took charge of the building, but none of them managed to complete the construction. The unfinished structure stood as a silent witness to the changing hands of the contractors, each leaving their mark but never reaching the finish line.It was the same for every contractor . they would take charge and start the construction but then the workers would start commuting suicide again .It was almost like this building was cursed . Eventually the contractors stopped coming.it was almost like they gave up on the building .Which led to the building being abandoned.

Everyone knew about the building - You know the place where you would start to quicken your steps, where kids would dare each other to go inside as a test of bravery, and where parents would warn you to take the other route even if it was longer. Yeah, that's how I always remembered the building.

Even so I found myself being drawn to the building.I always wanted to go in , even as a kid .I remember one day it was 9:00 pm and my parents sent me to run some errands and  even though my parents warned me to take the longer route so I wouldn't pass the building. I took the shorter route as I felt that it wouldn't matter much anyway and what they don't know can't hurt them . As i was passing the building a  thought crossed my mind , " what if I go in?I mean it would be really quick I would go in and then come back out . plus I wouldn't be so curious about the place anymore". After thinking for some time , i decided that I would go in and take a look . plus I would get good pictures at night of the abandoned building.

The musty and damp smell hit my nostrils as i went in to the building. It was pretty dark so I decided to turn the flashlight of my phone on.I stared at the the unfinished interior and wonder how this place would look like if the work was actually finished and people lived here . Once I made it to the first floor i saw empty packets of chips and empty bottles . That's when I started to think that coming here was a bad idea . what if thugs or thiefs lived here ?I'll be doomed then.

As i was about to turn around and leave the building . I heard crys of a little girl. she was screaming for help . I can't just leave a kid like that!! I thought to myself as I started running to where the crys were coming from. I didn't even notice that I had dropped that bag of groceries as I was running. I stared at the only "finished" room on the floor and by finished I mean this is the only room that had a door.I pressed my ear against the door and thats when I heard it , a little girl sobbing.I was startled when someone from the other side knocked.

"hey, can you let me in?" i asked knocking once.

No response.

"hey ,it's okay I won't hurt you" I said knocking again .

No response but this time the door opened .

I was greeted by a little girl sitting on the floor.

"hey, kid where are your parents" I asked softly trying not to scare her.

She didn't respond.

"hey, it's okay I won't hurt you. it's going find your parents" i said extending my hand for her to take .

"I can't leave this kid here" i thought to myself.

She finally took my hand and looked up at me . her face.....it looked so pale. It almost looked like she was sick . Not to mention her hands were freezing cold . But the thing that struck out to me most was her face.....she wasn't sacred . she had this look on her face that made a chill run down my spine . It was almost like she was staring right into my soul. The thing that struck out to me most were her eyes.....those blue eyes . There was no emotion behind them .I felt like I was in a trance , i couldn't look away from her eyes . i just kept staring at them .The more I looked into her eyes the more lifeless they seemed.I didn't even notice that we had started walking. She was leading the way . I wanted to ask her where we were going but no words left my mouth . I was in a trance and i couldn't get out of it . We finally stopped in on top of the stairs, and I was about to step on the first stair when someone pushed me backwards.

"Are you out of your mind kid?" aske the old man in a watch man uniform.

"what..?"I asked finally snapping out of the trance like state......when I finally looked at the surroundings my eyes went wide and I backed away until my back hit the wall behind me .

"What the hell did you think you were doing!!" the watch man yelled at me .

I didn't react I just kept staring at the unfinished balcony at  infront of me .

"B-Buts t-those were t-the stairs a-and what h-happend to t-that Little girl"I asked with a petrified look on my face.

The watchman looked at me with a sympathetic look on his face .

"Come on let's get out of here " said the watchman helping me up . As i was walking out of the room with the man I kept staring at the unfinished balcony

"was i really about to jump?" i thought to myself.

"What happened?"i asked sipping the hot coffee, feeling safer that now we were in the security booth.

"I thought someone had entered the building so I decided to go check and then saw your groceries on the seventh floor . i figured that you were probably on the eighth floor so I ran upstairs and saw that you were about to jump and you know the rest" said that watchman.

"But sir I saw a gi-" I was interrupted by him.

"The girl with blue eyes?"asked the watchman.

"how did you know " I asked in disbelief.

"You weren't her first victim and you won't be her last " said the watchman.

"There were more people like me? but why is she doing this?"I asked .

"There are rumours that she was killed when this building was under-construction and now she has turned into an evil spirit that lures people to their death"said the watchman.

"why was she killed?"I asked .

"the rumours say that she was raped and then they threw her off the 8th floor to make it look like a suicide " said the watchman.

"That's terrible " I said looking at the building again.

"Did you hear someone knock on the door ?"asked the watchman.

"Yes someone from the other side of the door knocked" i said .

"How many times did they knock ?"asked the watchman with a serious expression on his face.I paused for a moment.

"twice" I said as I felt a chill run down my spine.

"You should go home kid , it's not safe out here"said the watchman.

"yeah , thanks for saving my life"I said as I got up .

As i was walking away from the entrance, the watchman called after me

"If you ever come here again and decide to go to the eighth floor don't knock twice, trust me on this one kid" said the watchman as he walked away .

After that I did some research on the building but there was no record of a little girl or a women with blue eyes committing suicide from the eighth floor.I never had the courage to go back there and after 5 years I moved away with my family. So I guess that's it , I'm just thankful that I'm alive to write this.
