Chapter 1

There is joyous laughter in the Miller mansion; a high pitched voice kept giggling uncontrollably. The servants kept looking for Sage because she was a very naughty girl who loved to play pranks and trouble others.

"Sage it's time for your piano please stop playing hide and seek now..." Natalie pleaded.

Sage kept watching her from under the table. She hated playing the piano but her mother still forced her to learn how to play.

" I don't want to go," Sage whispered softly.

Natalie saw her feet under the table and smiled.

"I know my dear but you don't want to make your mother upset you know how she gets" Natalie said softly and peaked under the table.

Sage stared at her with wide doe eyes full of sadness.

Sage Miller had black short hair that suited her small face perfectly. She had big gray lifeless eyes that were full of sadness.

She had a pointy nose and full pink lips; she looked like a doll and she had inherited her parents' good looks.

Natalie grasped both of her hands gently, her parents always loved to do things traditionally and the old-fashioned way.

Tears rolled down her cheeks.

"I don't want to learn how to play the piano..." Sage sniffled softly.

Natalie nodded quietly.

"Okay what would you like to do then?" She asked curiously.

Sage smiled at her.

"Sing and become a popstar like Hannah Montana," she said excitedly.

" I want to travel the world."

Natalie felt pity for the poor girl because she knew the life of the Miller's. No one was ever free to make their own decisions.

Sage was still a child that's why her parents were so lient on her but Natalie knew what would happen when she got older.

Go to a prestigious girls school, graduate and get married immediately.

Natalie knew all this because she had parents like Mr. And Mrs. Miller.

She only got her freedom once she ran away from home.

The mere thought brought back memories she didn't want to remember because they were too painful.

She didn't want Sage to end up like her. She always tried her best to listen to her parents but as Sage got older she became more different from the other girls.

A smile curved Natalie's lips.

"I see so you want to be a popstar?

Sage eagerly nodded.

"But in order to do that a popstar has to learn many different instruments including the piano."

Sage was shocked.

"What?"

Natalie nodded quietly.

"Yes so my dear Sage you must learn how to play the piano."

Sage immediately got on her feet.

"Then let's go, we are already running late," Sage said softly.

" Aren't you forgetting something? Natalie asked curiously.

Sage frowned.

"No."

Natalie shook her head negatively.

"Try again."

Sage checked herself and realized that her dress was covered in mud.

"Oh my dress I didn't mean to make a mess Natalie I'm sorry..." She said softly.

Natalie smiled.

" It's alright Sage but you need to get clean before your mother finds yo-"

The front door opened and Sage's mother Lucia walked in a gasp escaped her lips when she saw Sage and the current state she was in.

"Why on earth are you so filthy?!" She yelled angrily.

Sage hid behind Natalie.

"Madam, she fell into a mud puddle. That's why she's so messy I was going to give her a bath."

Lucia shook her head negatively and grabbed Sage's arm tightly.

" Mommy it hurts
" Sage cries tearfully.

" You're such a spoiled brat Sage, why can't you act like the other little girls?!"

"You're not a farmer's daughter do you understand?!"

Sage nodded quietly.

" Get her out of my sight before I lose it," Lucia said acidly.

Natalie took Sage to her room.

Natalie examined Sage's hands and her mother had held her wrist too tightly; it left some red marks.

That night Sage didn't utter a word and she didn't even have her food. Natalie tried persuading her but it was no use and she didn't want to budge.

And this made her mother furious.

"Lucia will you just let it go, Sage is just six years old for Christ sake she's a child just let the poor girl be" Andrew pleaded.

Lucia scoffed furiously.

" She is an embarrassment besides girls her age act sophisticated and posh and she just wants to play in mud puddles and sing awful songs."

Andrew had heard enough and he didn't want to lose his temper. He left his meal unfinished and went to see his daughter.

He found Sage looking at the window absently and she was still crying.

"Honey..."

Sage turned around and saw her father; she engulfed him with a big hug and a sob escaped her lips.

"I'm sorry father..."

Andrew stroked her hair and wiped her tears away.

"It's okay to be different Sage and being different makes you special in your own way."

Sage nodded.

" Since you didn't have dinner, why don't we go get some ice cream?" He asked in a playful tone.

Sage grinned.

" Only if I get what I want daddy."

Andrew chuckled lightly.

" Okay then your highness get ready and meet me downstairs."

Sage immediately went to her closet.

Sage was a complete daddy's girl but with her mother Lucia it was different.

12 YEARS LATER

SAGE POV

The bed is so warm and comforting I don't ever want to get up but my alarm won't stop ringing either.

I need to get up and go to college.

"Sage wake up."

I pulled the covers tighter around myself.

"No...let me sleep Natalie" I mumbled inside the covers.

She yanked the covers off me and threw them on the floor.

"No!"

Natalie was frowning at me.

"You better get up before your mother finds you like this," she warned.

I rolled my eyes in annoyance.

"This is why I wanted to have my own freaking apartment".

I got up and made my way towards the bathroom.

My hair was a mess. I brushed my teeth and after that I stepped into the shower.

I looked at my tattoo and smirked.

If mother found out about it she would go insane. After I was done I went to my closet and picked a pair of skinny jeans and a white crop top.

I brushed my hair and tried to be modest for my mother's sake. I decided to wear sneakers.

I was a complete tomboy and I lived according to my standards. I stopped listening to my mother's orders when I became a teenager.

My mother expected me to live according to our family's social status but I didn't care and that doesn't stop me from doing whatever I want.
