The Legend of Korra: and the Terran Republic

Earth, 2022. Technology was at its peak, people could do everything at the touch of their phone. They could have a robot clean their house, they could order food, they could even talk to friends many miles away. Life was made easier for everyone, and everyone was more connected than ever. Though with life becoming easier, people didn't have things to do besides sitting. After a while, people became stir crazy and were looking for something to be part of. With the people joining groups, things became more divided to the point where people were fighting each other in the streets. This began to happen all over the world.

Three years later, in 2025, there was a massive solar storm that took out the world's technology. Most of the world's achievements were saved on the internet, and with the storm, those achievements and their way of life went away with the storm. Robots no longer functioned, cars no longer started, people no longer connected. There was great havoc caused by the storm. But with things becoming harder, people began to see joy in the little things. People grew tired of the fighting. They wanted everyone to get along. So there began the terran-movement, to help those in need and give new meaning to people. The movement spread across the world like wildfire. At one point, the people were demanding reformations of their governments. The UN was dismantled, and countries began joining a new union as states: the Terran Republic.

The Terran Republic had grown to encompass the Americas, Europe, the Mediterranean, the Middle East, India, the Pacific, and northern Africa. The nation was the largest the world had seen, though it only wanted peace. Countries in Asia saw the rise of the Terran Republic as a threat, and so came together in response, forming the Communist States of Asia (C.S.A). In 2027, the C.S.A had launched an invasion taking Europe and the Pacific, and they had started to take india. The People of the Terran Republic realized that in order to live, peace wasn't always the answer. They had to become fighters if they wanted to preserve what they started.

For the first few years, the Terran Republic struggled to hold their ground, losing the Germanic regions and most of the Pacific. It looked as though they would lose their movement. Then, a man named Logan Alexander stepped up to lead the charge. The Terran armies were starting to become more organized. Once they were organized, Logan pushed the C.S.A out of Europe and India. After 8 years of fighting, the Terran Republic had won. They had become the strongest under Logan. For 50 years, there had been peace, though when Logan died, the C.S.A. went to war again. It only lasted 5 years. The first three years were a stand still. The last 2 were spent pushing through China to their capital city of Beijing. In the end, it brought an era of peace that lasted 45 years.

During those 45 years, technology had grown back to where it was in the 1940s. Researchers had found documents and blueprints from 100 years before, showing how to make the technology from that era. Most of it was weapons from the second world war. They found designs for corsairs, p51d mustangs, b-25 bombers, m26 Pershings, and trucks. Even designs for ships like the Iowa class, Clemson class, Omaha class, and Gato class. They didn't need to pull up aircraft carriers. They managed to fix up some of the older Nimitz class ships and produce more. When they found these documents, the leadership had decided that copies should be made and given to generals in order to keep the knowledge around. With this newfound knowledge, the Terran Republic was becoming stronger and working its way back to where it was 100 years ago.

Then, in 2125, the C.S.A had launched an invasion on the Terran Republic's west coast and on Europe, India, and the Middle East. They also found allies in the southern regions of Africa who were pushing northward on the northern Terran states of Africa. For 6 years they fought, and the Terran Republic was losing ground. Though they were beginning to hold and gain back land in India and the west coast of the Middle East.

The capital city, or any city in the Americas, was untouched by the war. Their flag, a modified version of the German war flag, fluttered in the wind. The flag was blue with a white highlight around an iron cross on the upper left hand corner, and in the middle of the cross was a trinity symbolizing the three branches of government. The ports were busy with ships coming in and going out with supplies for the war effort. Liberty class cargo ships were loaded and unloaded with things like bullets, guns, Tanks. Fresh soldiers were loaded up into old cruise liners, which somehow survived the solar storm, and sent to the front lines. Some ships were also getting repaired, mostly Cruisers and destroyers that were damaged by Russian submarines.

Military personnel wore a variation of the old German m34 with jodhpurs and Jack boots, or German m36 with trousers and jackboots. The helmet worn by troops was a variation of the m35 stahlhelm, and hats were variations of the m43 and German visor cap. When the weather is cold, troops are issued a variation of the m36 greatcoat, and officers a variation of the soviet shinel greatcoat. uniform color varies from what field troops are in, tan for desserts and greenish gray for forests and jungles. Officers, starting at captain, can have their uniforms in different colors as a sign of their rank area. On the right breast, showed an eagle with its head facing to the wearer's right side and holding on to a trinity. In the front and center of the hats was that same eagle holding a trinity.

Back in the war room of the Terran palace, generals debate on how to reclaim the lost land and push out the eastern invaders…

The war room was 100ftx40ft. Its walls were stained maple panels that lined the bottom quarter of the wall, the panels had brass molding making rectangular patterns. stained maple moldings lined the corners of the room and, where the panels were not, was a painted polished blue. The floor was lined with a rough but smooth blue carpet with dark spots. In the center of the room was a war map showing borders and armies. Surrounding it was a horse shoe shaped conference table.

In attendance there were 10 generals, though only 4 were the most vocal.

The debate is started by General Anderson, a man in his late 40s and still fit. His hair is dark blonde, a half inch on the sides and an inch on the top. He was from Scotland, stationed in Poland. He was promoted to General of the military after he defended Poland from the C.S.A.

General Anderson: For 6 years, we have been fighting the C.S.A, and for 6 years we have gotten nowhere. The C.S.A is soon to break through Germany and advance through France. If we lose France, then we lose the war in Europe. Does anyone have any ideas?

The one to give the first idea was General Himmler. A man in his late 50s, scrawny, bald. Originally from Germany, he was promoted to general of the European guard 10 years before the war because of his age.

General Himmler: I say we pull all of our forces out of Europe and go straight to Beijing and wipe it from the map!

As 3 generals agree, General Wellington, a fat man in his 60s, responds to General Himmler's idea.

General Wellington: We'd lose Europe if we do that, and the enemy would know we're planning something big when they find little resistance in Europe! I say we take some men from Africa and send them to take back the pacific state!

General Himmler: that would take too long, the Japanese troops would slow us down there! If we can redivert troops from Europe and take Beijing, then we can end the war immediately!

The generals start arguing with each other. After 10 seconds of arguing, they stop when General Ahmud, a man in his 40s from the Middle East, who is the General of the Middle Eastern armies, stands up and gives his idea on what to do.

General Ahmud: I say we gather forces from the Americas and send them to Europe, first they'll defend France and retake Germany.

General Anderson: Who will lead this force?

General Ahmud: I have pulled a promising young man out of the Middle East theater, he is a commander of the 157th army corp. He led the defense of India, and was the one to push Russian troops out of Damascus.

General Wellington: Who is this commander? Surely he has to have many years of experience in the army to do that!

General Ahmud: He is Colonel Kaiser.

General Himmler: HIM?!?! He is only a child! How could you expect him to lead an invasion force, let alone take on the C.S.A?

General Ahmud: that child is 19, he has seen three years of combat. He started as a lowly squad commander, and quickly rose through the ranks in that time. After seeing his service in India, the holy lands, and Syria, I have no doubt that he can do it!

General Anderson: When do we get to meet him? Perhaps we see what he has in mind.

???: Right now, General Anderson!

A young man had entered the room and was walking toward them. He looked to be 5’9”, with brown hair and brown eyes, and a scar on his left eye going down from his brow to his cheek bone. He wore a blue variation of the m36 tunic, with black pants, jackboots, and visor cap. To go on top, he wore a black shinel greatcoat.

General Himmler: Who are you?! This is a meeting for the top generals, not some colonel! What are you doing here?!

???: I am Colonel Kaiser, I was ordered here by General Ahmud. I would hope this meeting is of the utmost importance, because you might have lost the Middle East by bringing me here.

General Ahmud: I assure, colonel, that this meeting is very important. If it wasn't, I wouldn't have pulled you out of the campaign.

Colonel Kaiser: alright. So what is it that you want me to do?

General Anderson: Germany is soon to be captured by the C.S.A, and if that happens, France will follow. We need to defend our hold of France and take back Europe. How would you go about it, Colonel?

The colonel was thinking while looking at the map. He seemed to be deep in thought, thinking for a minute.

Colonel Kaiser: if I was to lead the defense of France, I would use 10 armies. I would bring them by boat to the port city of le havre, there I would march them to the borders of France, Luxemburg, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Once there I would prepare for a defense in the middle with 6, 4 I would have performing a pincer maneuver to break their lines. Then I would push them back to Germany. I assume that the defenses there should be weak, so I would bring a fleet to defend the waters and harass enemy ships seeking to attack the coast. And I would need aircraft to help in weakening the enemy from the sky.

General Ahmud: That's an ambitious plan, but would very much work. General Anderson, what do you think?

General Anderson: I think that's definitely something. We have gotten nowhere with the war, and I believe that the colonels plan would work.

General Wellington: That does answer your question on what to do!

General Himmler: But General Anderson, he's too young! He's also not of the right rank to lead many armies into battle, unlike me!

General Anderson: You are right, Himmler, this calls for a promotion. Colonel Kaiser, you are now a General. I expect you to succeed in your campaign!

General Kaiser: thank you General Anderson! You should have Europe in 6 months!

With that, he salutes and walks out. There is much to prepare for!

It has been 10 days since the war meeting, General Kaiser had been working non stop to gather the needed strength for defending France and retaking Europe. He only needed 5 armies to defend and advance into France, though he wasn't sure if he would be able to hold his ground. In the meeting he came up with 10 armies, so that way he could leave 5 behind to act as a cushion to fall back on.

Getting there wouldn't have been easy either, he would've lost most of his armies if he only asked for ships to transport. Leadership wouldn't have given an escort fleet. So when he came up with the plan of harassing enemy ships to defend the coast, it was really to get leadership to send ships to protect his invasion force. As for aircraft, he knew there wouldn't be any in Europe with most of the factories having been taken at the start of the war. There were many aircraft in the Americas, but the military leadership wouldn't want to risk losing them in an offensive. So he later requested planes to be sent with him.

The force he managed to acquire was large. 10 armies numbering 1.8 million, 20,000 aircraft (5,000 b-25s, 7,500 corsairs, and 7,500 p51d mustangs), 12,000 pershing tanks, 5,000 artillery guns, and 15,000 trucks. To get them there, he gathered 180 troop transports (cruise liners), 498 merchant ships, and 160 aircraft carriers. To defend them on the way there, he was given 150 battleships, 300 destroyers, 250 cruisers, 300 frigates, and 275 submarines. In total, he gathered 3.71 million souls, and 2113 ships.

General Kaiser is in his office filing paperwork late in the evening to finalize his plan and finish gathering the needed resources. His office was 15ftx25ft. The walls were a polished white with oak molding. There was a window on the back wall, and a desk was in front of the window facing the door. On the right of the desk was a shelf with books on politics and strategy. In front of the desk was a couch against the left wall with a coffee table in front of it.

As General Kaiser is finishing the last of the paperwork, he hears a knock at his office door.

General Kaiser: Come in!

The door opens with General Ahmud stepping through.

General Ahmud: Good evening, Julius! Or should I say General Julius? How's the new rank treating you?

Julius: More paperwork than army corp commander, not fun. What brings you here?

General Ahmud: I wanted to check up on you, I haven't seen you since the battle of Kabul. I thank you again for saving me, if you hadn't, I don't think you would have made it this far if you didn't!

Julius: I was doing my job, and I probably would've been stuck at platoon leader if I didn't.

General Ahmud: Maybe. Do you think you are ready to enact your plan?

Julius: As a general, I say that I am ready. But as a man, I have doubts that it would work according to plan. Especially after the battle of Gorakhpur.

General Ahmud: The Battle of Gorakhpur was out of your control, julius! You were working with what you were given, and it happened to come back and hit you hard.

Julius: I could have done something to prevent their deaths! I could have prevented his death!

General Ahmud: They would have died even if you tried to save them! There was no group close enough to help them! His death was not in vain, because of it we managed to keep our hold on india!

There was a pause, Julius was bothered by what happened but he still spoke.

Julius: Is there anything else you need or wanted to talk about?

General Ahmud: No, just that your force will be ready to leave in three days. And you have a new advisor, major Heinrich Maxim. He'll prove much useful to your push. Like you, he also fought in the battle of Kabul. Later he helped in the defense of Poland against the Russians. He knows a thing or two when it comes to the European front. But with that, I leave you to your paperwork. Have a good night Julius!

Julius: You as well Ahmud!

It has been 3 days, and julius’ invasion force has been fully assembled. Even though his force is much too large to fit in the port lined up, his 1st army are assembled in the port near their troop transport ships, waiting for Julius to make his speech. The speech to send off the force is behind the administration building of the port. When troops are sent out on campaigns, they gather the troops by the port, instead of the palace, to make the transit time faster and save on additional costs. The building was 4 stories tall and made of brick, on the 2nd floor had a platform with two walkways on the side leading to it. The walkways had overhangs above them supported by pillars, and the platform used for speeches was open to the sun. As they wait, Julius is observing, not too far away, the size of his force.

While he waits, a short and fat blonde man with yellow eyes, dressed in all white m40 tunic, trousers, dress shoes, and visor cap, with round glasses, is walking towards him. If he was more fit, he would be a good looking man.

???: Such a spectacular view isn't it general?!

Julius: It is! Who might you be?

???: I am major Heinrich Maxim, at your service! I am to serve as your advisor and legion commander of the 2nd legion of your 1st army!

Julius: Ahh, Ahmud spoke about you a few nights ago! What battles did you fight in during your defense of Poland?

Major Maxim: I fought in many battles, general, my most notable being the battle of Krakow and the repulsion of katowice!

Julius: That was you? Ahmud was right, you definitely will be a big help to our push! Though, as much as I would love to talk more about your exploits in Poland, I have a speech to give to our soldiers!

Major Maxim: alright then General, I bid you good luck on your speech!

Julius had walked to the end of the center part of the platform, and once he arrived, his troops had stood up to attention. Julius was slightly nervous, but it didn't affect him. Behind him were the leading generals of the military, and army commanders, along with major Maxim.

Julius: It has been 6 years since the war had begun, the war against those who seek our destruction: The Communist States of Asia. Since the beginning of the Terran Republic, the Communist States have sought our demise. Why? Because we have found ourselves and our purpose once more. They cannot handle that fact, so they go to war against us to take away that purpose! In 6 years, they have slowly worked towards taking that purpose away. We have held our ground in most places, though our brothers and sisters in Europe need our help in defending her and retaking what was taken from us. It is up to you, as well as I, to take back and defend what is ours! The order is, load up and embark for our journey to defend our republic.

With that, the 1st army gave a salute, and after Julius saluted them, then made way to their ships. Julius then turned around to see the generals walking away with the army commanders making their way to their troop transport ships, and the major clapping his hands.

Major Maxim: Talk about a speech, General! Even though it was short, it still made its way to raise the morale of the troops, so that they will be eager to fight for what they believe in! Have you ever given a speech before, General?

Julius: A couple of times before, yes. Though they were only given when morale was very low, like that in the India campaign.

Major Maxim: you must have had to give many speeches while you were there! With the Communist States' use of Japanese troops, there must have been low morale and deserters!

Julius: not many, after the first speech we ended up pushing the Japanese troops back ten miles in 2 days! The speech after that was to boost their morale to finish the job. Even though there were high casualties on both sides, they were motivated to push them out.

Major Maxim: I think I'm going to enjoy serving under you, General!

Julius: we shall see. But enough talk, let us head to the Bonaparte!

With that, the general and the major made their way to the Bonaparte, a modified version of the old Bismark class battleship. It wielded 15 16 inch guns on 5 turrets, 20 15 cm guns on 10 turrets (5 per side), and 20 65 caliber guns on 10 mounts (5 per side). The original Bismark class could only shoot over 2 miles at 30°, but with the modifications to the turret and powder, she could shoot twice that distance at 45°. for defense, she was made with 32 inch armor (12 inch steel outer and inner layer, and 8 inches of cement sandwiched between the steel), and given a torpedo bulkhead. To accommodate for the added weight to the original design, her size was changed to 950 feet long, 150 feet wide, and 55 feet tall. With her modified design she weighed about 100,000 tons.

As they climbed on board, a crowd of people were standing by the docks waving goodbye to the 3.71 million souls on their way to france. There were some in the crowd flags waving to honor those heading to the front. To further wish them goodbye, there was a marching band playing an old personal tune of the Terran navy: comrades on the sea (kameraden auf see). As the crowd waved goodbye and the music played, troops on their transports waved goodbye to their loved ones, and the ships left the docks and set sail, not knowing they wouldn't return home.
