Chapter 1 - The Graveyard

Alex, a black haired man in his early twenties, was doing some chores, and he decided to check the time, which happened to be 10:00 P.M. On the way to the kitchen, he sees his roommate and long-time friend, Richard, a bearded man with blonde hair, currently dressed in pajamas.

“Hey Alex. Going to that new job? Where was it again?”

“Yeah. And it’s in a graveyard.”

“Graveyard, eh? You think something’s creepy going to happen?”

Alex rolls and says- “Oh please. The worst that’s going would be trespassers or people that want to vandalize.”

Richard snorts and says- “Well, if you get murdered, I’ll know where to look first.”

Alex sighs, and after eating some food, he puts on his white guard uniform. After arriving at the graveyard, the tombstones seemed to tower over Alex as he drove into the parking lot. He parked his car and made his way to the graveyard as he fumbles with the keys, of which he was given after the initial interview, in the dim light. As he walks through the graveyard, he bumps into the owner of the graveyard, a middle aged man with greying hair.

“Ah. You’re the security guard. Follow me.” Alex nods as the man says this, feeling a sense of unease. He follows the man as he leads him to the supply closet. Inside, he was presented with a flashlight and a set of keys. “In case you need to access the maintenance shed.” he says.

“Now, you’ll be patrolling the grounds, in order to make sure that everything is in order. The graves should be tidy and the tombstones should be free of vandalism.” The man then points to a worn map on the wall. “I’ve marked areas of concern on here. There have been some instances of people trying to sneak in after hours.”

Alex nods as the man says this. He thinks to himself- ‘All right. This shouldn’t be too bad.’

“And also, please don’t go into the mausoleum. It’s not exactly the safest place to enter right now. I’ve been meaning to find the time to fix it, but I couldn’t find a good time.”

As the man says this, Alex nods in agreement.

“All right. Got any questions?”

“No sir, I don’t.”

The man nods, and says- “All right. Good luck.” The man then leaves, and Alex is left alone with his thoughts. Alex then starts to patrol around the graveyard. The graveyard was huge, as it has winding paths and hidden corners. Alex couldn’t shake the feeling that someone or something was watching him. He kept glancing over his shoulder, and kept expecting to see something in the dark. Despite his unease, he remained alert. Out of the corner of his eye, he thought he saw someone going around a corner. His head immediately turned in the direction, and he thinks to himself- ‘Did I just see someone?’ He then decides to walk around the corner, but doesn’t see anyone, which immediately creeped him out. Once 6 A.M. hits, Alex walks back to his car with a bit of unease, and proceeds to drive back home. After arriving, he changes his clothes into pajamas and flips onto his bed.

Taste of Passion

musa moo: Its a sweet story. The writing is very good. The only thing I found wanting was the structurisation. Whenever there was a change in scenario or situation, I wish there was some kind spacing or something to indicate that there's a change ahead. Because of that it became a bit confusing in the middle ...
