Chapter 1

Lycan didn't know if he knew what love consisted of, but he knew for the first time in an eon, that he craved something other than the blood of the world's most evil humans. As he watched Melinia brush her jet-black long hair stark naked in front of her bathroom mirror, he saw past the plushness of her ass, hips, and tits, straight to her beating heart. It was just as fascinating as the woman's features. Her resting heart rate settled at 35 beats per minute. That beautiful beating heart should be in cardiac arrest at all times, yet she thrived.

A short year ago, Lycan knew Melinia as one of his college students. She was a freshman then, and when he saw her caramel skin, soft features, gentle smile, and big blue eyes--he quit. It was impulsive, but Lycan didn't care. He quite literally had all the money in the world. It was quit, or mount her in front of his class. Lycan was sure the university wouldn't appreciate him fucking and biting his students.

These past twelve months had been hell on Lycan. If he wasn't following Melinia, he was working out or pacing around the six acres of land he owned. It was easier than sitting in a mansion the size of a small town, alone. Never once had Lycan thought of the word until he returned home the night he saw Melania for the first time. Longing for companionship was torture, and Lycan was not a fan of torturing himself.

So it was time to take.

Take what he wanted, with no remorse. Lycan had thought this over for the full year but he had learned something that made his cool body, warm. Melinia was just as lonely as he was. She had not a single friend, no family, no one. Most days she hiked for hours upon hours. At night, she always sat out on her roof stark naked as if the moon was her sun. Lycan enjoyed every moment he silently watched her. It was his special movie.

Melinia finished brushing her hair, and Lycan knew she would soon be on her roof. He would meet her there.

How do you let a man know that you are aware he is watching you? Melinia thought the question over as she made her way to the roof of her home. For a year, her old professor watched her. She could smell him. He had a smell that called to her in a way she could never understand. Melinia didn't try to. She liked the mystery of it. It made her feel far less lonely than she had been all of her life, but she felt that tonight would be different. And she was right.

The moment Melinia stepped out into the glory of the Moon, the sight of Lycan met her. He sat with his long legs spread out, his upper body resting on his elbows. Melinia would never get over the look of him. His skin was almost the color of the moon, his hair was the color of the moon, but his eyes held the sun in him. It's like he stole a flame from it, swallowed it into him,. and it settled at the window to his soul. Everything he was, happened to be a stark contrast to her.

Melinia considered herself brown-skinned. Her eyes were like crystals she was told. Almost translucent in color. She also remembered that his voice was that of thunder, hers was that of a whisper.

"A full moon tonight. It allows me to see the full beauty of you." Lycan's thunderous voice almost made Melinia crumble. Her knees shook, so she dropped to her ass so suddenly that it shocked her.

"Thank you," was all Melinia managed to say as she stared at Lycan. His gaze was narrowed as he examined her. She could feel his eyes on every inch of her.

"Your heart, it beats--"

"Slow, I know."

"Never cut me off again, Melinia. It is rude and unbecoming. You are far too perfect for that." The woman blushed so fiercely that she had to place her cool hands on her warm cheeks. "Why is that?" Lycan finished.

"Doctors say it's because I'm in peak physical health. I do a lot of walking."

"I know."

A gentle silence settled between them, as the night crept forward. Eventually, Melinia laid back, closed her eyes, and enjoyed the sounds of the night, it was her safe place.

She was just about to drift to sleep when she felt herself be lifted from the roof. Her eyes fluttered open to find Lycan carrying her, his gaze forward.

"What are you doing?" Melinia said in her too-soft voice. Lycan glanced down at her, his expression unemotional.

"I am taking you home," Lycan said confidently. Melinia closed her eyes and let out a sigh. She didn't care if she didn't know a damn thing about Lycan, it didn't matter. For far too long, Melinia had been alone. She wanted to know what it felt like to have someone.
