CHAPTER ONE: CHASED

.

.

.

Thundered roared in the dark cloudy skies.

Rain poured down heavily.

Veera didn’t dare stop running deep into the woods, as running footsteps followed behind her.

She had the worst possible luck today. You know that saying, at the wrong place at the wrong time? Her cruel, fate made her stumble upon something she wasn’t meant to see or witness. If she didn’t find a place to hide, she knew she was good as dead.

Apart from being an Art college student, Veera was part of the cleaning service team at the prestigious Poseidon hotel in town.

She opened the door to tend to her cleaning duties in the top most private suite, when suddenly

//BANG//

A dark suited guy shot the old bald guy who was bounded in a chair. The bullet went straight through his brain, and blood splattered upon the wall and the guy who shot at him. Veera shrieked out shocked to her core, as the gunman pointed his weapon right at her. He went to shoot at her, however Veera managed to dodge out of the way. Slamming the door shut she locked behind it with her staff keys at once. The door dangerously rattled as she took no time running away.

She pulled out her phone to call her 911, unfortunately her phone was dead.

Curses! She’d made it out of the hotel compound just in time, and headed straight towards the woods.

Hoping she’d be able to hide out and lose her assassin who was after her.

After running she came to a sudden stop.

She was on the edge of a cliff with a river flowing hard down below.

A few stone like rubbles fell of the edge as Veera gulped looking down, from a great height up.

“Uh-oh.”

Came a chilling voice from the back. Veera whipped her head behind, with her heart pounding away. A wild chill ran down her spine, as the killer had found and caught up to her. With a sly grin, he looked her way.

“What will she do now?”

Her heart pounded in fright, as he trapped her by the edge of the cliff.

“Pl-please?! Please I didn’t see anything.” She begged hoping he’d spare her life

The killer with blue eyes and a bad scar running down his left cheek scoffed.

//BANG//

Veera groaned out in pain when the bullet hit upon her upper shoulder, with no mercy.

“Yes, you did.”

Veera cried out as blood seeped from her shoulder. The blue eyed killer smirked like an evil psycho. Looking at her like she was his next death appointment.

He enjoyed torturing his victims before he ended them.

“That was for making me run after you, you little slut.”

He flashed his eyes yellow disturbing her to her core. The man looked human from head to toe, but now she knew something was horribly off about him. Her late grandmother always talked of demons and read her scary stories when she was child, to put her to bed. She never once believed in them, but now looking disturbingly at the man, Veera knew all too well, she was not dealing with a normal human.

“Wh-what are you?” She bravely asked.

Scarman smirked cracking his neck muscles, whilst looking towards her in a predatorial way, eying her shoulder wound. He licked his lips at the mere sight of her blood.

“A big fat secret, that humans like you shouldn’t know about.”

Scarface then pointed the gun towards her heart, whilst her heart pounded with fear, as she froze with no way to step back.

This was it, she thought.

“Better start praying, cause you’re —”

Suddenly a strong rumbling sound was heard and the ground shook heavily from underneath Veera’s feet. The cliff was soft by the edge. It couldn’t bare her weight another other second. In the next minute the ground under her caved in from where she stood. Veera’s body went off balance and a loud scream erupted from her when she tumbled down towards the river. Closing her eyes fast she secretly prayed to survive her bad case of fate.

//SPLASH//

The killer cursed as three of his minions came by the cliff, in pursuit of her too. A wild growl came out of him angrily.

“We need her dead. We can’t keep any eye witnesses alive!”

“Can’t you let her go. With that kind of fall, no one can survive.”

The trio looked down.

Her body surfaced up and Veera went on survival mode as she did her best to try swim at the shore.

“Won’t survive the fall huh?”

“Get her!”

More gun shots were fired, hitting the water.

Veera freaked out and took a huge breath diving inside the rough river. Her right shoulder pained out, making it difficult for her to use her other arm to swim. However with all that adrenaline rush kicking into her, she didn’t have anytime to to think about the pain. The strong river current swept her away downwards fast.

When she surfaced up again, she gasped out for some deep air. She was about to head towards the shore once more when more flying bullets came her way. She saw the killers in pursuit of her once more. She ceased trying to reach the shore.

They wanted her dead because she saw whom they killed.

The next heir to the Poseidon. Mr Northman. Although Veera was a part time worker at the hotel, many staff workers admired him since he promised to give them all a pay rise once he officially became the CEO in the next couple of days.

Clearly someone wanted him dead.

With the furious currently drifting her body fast. Veera didn’t heart rate spike up when she saw a small dip in the river with huge boulders and rocks coming her way.

She desperately tried to catch a nearby hanging tree branch however she failed as the strong currents pushed her furiously forward.

“Stop! Don’t go any further.”

“She’s getting away!”

“That’s Alpha Jaxson Cortegas territory.”

The killers froze with an eerie chill down their spine. They were rogue wolves and entering a great Alpha ranking wolf territory without permission was a dumb idea.

They’d be killed on the spot.

Veera shrieked out loudly as she suddenly crashed against the rocks thanks to the rough currents.

The wolves on the other side heard her distressed cries.

.

.

.

John who was in his true form as Grey rushed into action.

When two female wolves who were stalking him for some play time of their own stopped him.

[S] Grey don’t!

[J] It’s too dangerous!

Grey on the other hand didn’t listen to the she-wolves Storm and Jules that belonged in his Alpha’s entertainment club.

He leapt in the air and phased quickly in his human form and dived into the river catching sight of the girl crying out in distress.

Who was heading right towards the dangerous falls.

He’d beaten her head on before she got to close and grabbed on to the thick branch.

With her unconscious body floating down stream, John stretched out his arm and caught her, cold body against his.

After pulling her to the banks of the river. The girl choked out water, whilst heavily panting and gasping out for air.

.

.

.

“Hey, easy there.”

A dark smooth voice called out. Veera snapped her blurry wet vision from the sound of the river and then back to the one who was holding her.

She locked eyes with the wet stranger who held all her attention with his dark brown ones.

Smitten by her beauty and the strange tingles that went through him. John was astounded as he looked down at her beautiful sea green eyes with a hint of grey in them.

Her head pounded with a bad headache. Wincing out in pain she clutched the side of her temple and shoulder, trying to make sense of the sudden blurry world around her.

Blood seeped out and John, (who’d thankfully had a good hunt earlier), controlled his wicked blood thirst around her.

“You’re hurt.”

In a daze, he watched the girl dart her attention towards the river.

Her dark brows furrowed in confusion.

How did she get here?

Who was he?

Why was she cold and wet.

Her lower lip started quivering.

As she realised the handsome man who was holding her was sheer butt naked.

She let out a gasp and lowly whimpered scared of his presence, with her heart beats picking up unwanted speed.

John gently stroked her cheek, and shook his head gently down at her. He could immediately tell she was uncomfortable with him. Who wouldn’t be? He was a strong and a somewhat intimidating looking stranger to her.

“Don’t be frightened. I mean you no harm. I saw you in danger out in the river and came after you, to pull you to safety.”

Veera sniffled as she slowly nodded her head in understanding.

Still why was he butt naked and what the hell was she doing out in the river in the first place?

John wished to pull her in his hold and hug her warm but at the same time, he didn’t want to come off like a creep. It was bad enough he had low-key alarmed her with his well ripped birthday suit.

“What’s your name sweetheart?”

He asked in his warm tone of voice.

Her name?!

It was the most simple question.

Her heart went in panic mode.

“I...I...I don’t know?” Her voice felt like sandpaper when she spoke.

She’d swallowed a lot of river water.

How could she not know her name?!

Hot tears slipped out of her eyes as she slowly went to stand up. John immdiately gave her space and she took a few steps towards the river. He was ready to pull her away, if she dared thought about getting back in the river. But she stopped. She was staring at the river hard. Possibly trying to remember what happened to her, he guessed.

Her body felt like jelly and she hissed out in pain, when she clutched at her injured arm.

“I’m bleeding?...Why am I bl-bleeding?”

She asked in her sudden state of shock and worry. John was just about to say something when, he noticed her body suddenly swaying backwards. Darkness suddenly engulfed her vision as she went down.

In a heartbeat, John caught her fall and scooped her in his hold. Holding her like she was the most precious gift to him.

John stalked off into the woods.

A second Beta member headed his way. He too was struck by her injured presence.

“Is she dead?”

John let out a dark growl when he said that and flashed his eyes silver at him.

“I’m just joking John. She took quite a hit though.”

Dean backed away not wishing to piss off his best friends inner beast.

“We need to get her to Dr Ryland fast before she hits hypothermia, or goes through more shock.”

“She’s been shot John.”

Dean quickly brought the jeep around. John got inside wrapping her up with blankets and sat her on his lap, placing pressure upon her wound. He stroked her cold cheek tenderly and did his best to keep her warm.

“Drive fast, Dean.”

.

.

.

48 hours later.

Veera opened her eyes. She was now in a new room with white lights and light blue walls.

There was a drip attached to her hand, and she slowly sat up, feeling a bandage wrapped by her right shoulder.

Her body felt heavy and sore.

“Oh good, you’re awake.”

An elderly nurse with a light pink scrub on said as she fluffed her pillow and pressed a key on the remote, raising her bed to arch forward in a comfortable sitting position.

She noticed many bouquet of flowers by the desk.

“Where am I?” She asked with her sudden hoarse voice.

“The hospital dear. You had a bad accident in River Falls.”

Veera then took the fresh looking yellow roses besides the bed.

“Who got me these?”

“John DeAngelo. Your well wisher.” She smiled, brightly.

Who was that, she secretly wondered.

With a click of a button by her bedside, Betty then hit the Dr button.

Soon a tall figure with a white lab coat on came in.

Followed by four other men.

One whom she clearly recognised.

“Thank You Nurse Betty.”

The Dr said turning his attention to his patient.

Veera wondered why the two other men who looked like cops were here.

“Hello, my name is Dr Ryland.” He pulled out a torch pen and neared Veera’s side.

“Follow my finger please.” He said and Veera did so.

“Her vitals are stable.”

Dr Ryland smiled.

Veera’s eyes locked with the one who pulled her to safety. That was all she could seem to remember for now.

“Hello mam, my name is Sean Hilford and this is my partner Duke Bane. We came by to investigate your accident, since Dr Ryland pulled out a bullet from your surgery two days ago.”

She’d been out for two days!

“What?” She croaked out with a hoarse tone.

“Did you know who tried to shoot you dead?”

Dean interjected getting straight to the point.

John’s inner beast growled darkly inside of him.

《G》Who the fuck is trying to kill her?

《J》I don’t know. But whoever it is, better pray that I don’t find them.

John said darkly to his inner beast, whom equally agreed inside his soul. He’d been visiting her for the past two days and praying to the Moon Goddess, for her to wake up from her coma.

Veera was in much shock, when she heard that. Someone tried to kill her?

“I...I don’t remember. Anything.” She said with her eyes shortly watering.

“Unfortunately the young miss here has a mild concussion to the head. Sean and Duke you’ll need to give her more time for her recovery.” Dr Ryland said.

[Dr R] The kid’s had a traumatic shock and the mind shields her to keep her bad memories locked for now on order to protect her state of mind.

[Du] Poor kid, how old is she?

[Dr R] According to her DNA result, she is nineteen years old.

[S] We can’t keep her in foster care.

[J] I will take responsibility for her.

John quickly said through his private mindlink. He’d do whatever he could to help her.

[De] John, you think the Alpha will allow it?

Dean asked knowing it wasn’t an impossible request.

[J] I will talk to him about it in tomorrow’s meeting.

The secret werewolf cops discreetly agreed with a short nod at him.

“We understand. Sean and I will sort out the necessary paperwork. Until then, please keep our card and call us if you do remember anything at all.”

Duke said pulling out his card.

Veera took the card and nodded in understanding as they soon exited their doors.

“You don’t remember anything at all?” Dean asked in his concerned tone of voice.

Veera placed her head down in defeat, and shook her head, controlling her waterworks.

“She has Amnesia.” Dr Ryland said in a confirming tone.

“When will I...” Veera clutched at her throat and ceased talking. Her throat hurt like hell.

“Get your memory back?”

Asked the handsome brown eyed man who finished her sentence for her.

“Some patients can take years and some can regain their memories within weeks and months. Depending on their healing process.” Dr Ryland said.

“Years?!” She whispered out shocked.

Veera couldn’t help but suddenly break down.

“I’m sorry kid. Dean.”

Dr Ryland said pulling his cousin out when John got near the bed to console her.

“Sweetheart, don’t cry.”

“I...I don’t know who I am.” She croaked out.

“Hey, look at me. I found a clue.”

He pulled out her name tag from her grey uniform she’d worn previously.

“Vee...ra?” she croaked out with her hoarse voice.

John smiled then gave her a glass of water. Veera sipped it and wiped her tears off from her back of her hand.

“Veera.”

Her eyes locked with her saviour who slowly wiped away another rogue tear away from her now warm face.

“My name is John DeAngelo.”

Her well wisher that nurse Betty mentioned earlier.

Veera took John’s hand in hers and smiled with hot tears flowing away.

“Thankyou for saving me from the river Mr DeAngelo.”

She said, with her voice mildly clearing. Just as she held his hand in an weak but appreciative way, John felt those strong tingles go through him.

《G》I knew it!

《J》Don’t say it.

《G》Mate!

John died his inner beasts (Grey) thoughts down. For human mates were the most rarest for a true blood line lycan to have.

“May I give you a hug, sweetheart. It looks like you could use one?”

Lost scared and confused, Veera nodded her head slowly at her tall giant man of 6ft3, wearing a dark shirt, a brown leather jacket and dark jeans.

Sliding on her bed, John then gently pulled her into his arms and gave her a warm comforting hug.

Now that she was nice warm and dry, her scent hit him like powerful great wave.

“I’m so scared.” She whispered as she softly sobbed on him.

John controlled his wild possessive nature around her and gently pulled away.

Stroking her cheek tenderly, as studied her natural beauty up-close.

He wished to kiss all her worries away.

“I know you’re scared little bird, but you don’t have to be. I won’t let anyone hurt you.”

Even though he was a complete stranger to her, in the short while she knew him, Veera felt a great sense of protection emitting from him.

Something she needed the most.

“You’re going to be fine Veera.”

He added, making her wrap her hands around him once again. The two remained in each others hold. John held her as she softly sobbed on him.

Nurse Betty then came into the room.

“Sorry, John visiting hours are over.”

He sighed out seeing the clock right on 6. He wished to hold and console her some more, but at the same time he knew he had to give her space. She was still recovering from a eventful trauma she couldn’t recall. He slowly pulled away from her, and wiped her rolling rogue tear away from her cheek.

“It’s going to be ok.”

Veera gave him a weak smile and sniffled shooting her eyes down towards her lap.

With a sweet warm kiss to the forehead, Veera mildly blushed surprised at him. John got up and turned on his heel.

“I’ll see you tomorrow, don’t go anywhere.”

Veera watched him leave without turning around.
