Summary

Sapphire felt like her mind was blank, watching him stand above her and undo the pants that he was wearing. He was just staring down at her, meeting dark blue eyes with his bright, nearly glowing ones. He undid the belt, and her mouth never went so dry, never felt like swallowing so hard as watching him push the pants down, exposing the lower half of his body. Staring at her like a delectable female to claim. **************** Sapphire is between a rock and a hard place. With no other choice but to run, Sapphire agrees to enter into the mate hunt with the Ceruleans. It's either that, or face execution for a crime she didn't commit. All she knows is that if she can escape the hunt, then she will be able to come back home with her name cleared and get back at the one who murdered her family. Seems simple, study and train hard and she will run through the hunt. What could any of them possibly want with a female who shows no interest? Unfortunately for Sapphire she really does not understand at all what this hunt is. All she gets is three times, if a male catches you to mate three times it is game over. Zyne knows this, he also realizes that Sapphire doesn't actually know what she's signed up for. He's not going to tell her either. Why would you tell your prey how to escape when you've set your sights on catching her to keep?

Set Up From The Start

“Tell you what Sapphire.” Sapphire looked through the window to the man sitting there. They could hear each other just fine through the glass with the little speaker that was there. The man sitting there had a peppering of dark hair with grey.

A smart looking dark suit on and his light brown eyes held nothing. Just soulless pits that put a rage inside of her. Sapphire’s deep blue ones held anger and hate, she hoped he saw that. Her uncle Tobias was an evil bastard.

“If you return what you stole, I can see what can be done to get you out of here.” Sapphire took in a sharp breath through her nose to keep calm.

“I stole nothing from you. You expect me to believe you? To give you the only thing that kept me alive to you? You’ll never get it Tobais. It’s safe. You tried to get me tried for murder when it was self-defense from men YOU sent to kill me,” Sapphire said, angry. Her uncle had killed her parents, she knew he did. He was the reason they never came home several years ago. Sapphire bet her life he paid those men to ‘rob’ and murder them. That he paid off her parents’ guard to that night, she had evidence of that. However she was now in a dangerous place with no allies.

“I sent men to check on my niece who was dealing with a great deal of emotional stress. You’ve never been the same since they died. It was a robbery Sapphire, nothing more. You cannot keep my property from me,” Tobias said and she saw the flare of anger at her defiance.

“What’s on those drives, is safe. I will make it back here Tobias. Then everyone is going to know the dirty bastard you are. That you murdered your own sister and her husband. Didn’t work so well when you realized the will was changed did it? That I own it all. I’ve already signed it. It’s all in my name. When I get back there will be no charges, they will be wiped and I’m going to make you pay for it. I promise you,” Sapphire said and just stared at him as Tobias laughed.

“You stupid woman, you’ll never make it back. How many females that go come back? One, maybe two? Give me my property and you won’t have to go and be a Cerulean whore. Do you even know what happens in those hunts?” He gave a dark chuckle.

“Have you met a Cerulean? They are well trained, they are a warrior race Sapphire. They use their woman like toys. You think you are going to out smart them in their own world? They'll break you.” He leaned forward a bit toward the glass and she just watched him. She wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t for him. He left her no choice.

“You better hope I come back Tobias. If I don’t, I already have my own will set, it won’t go to you.” Judging by his look he already seemed to know. There was anger there, and he wanted all the legal documents that Sapphire had. He needed some of the documents to get himself signed in and in control of a good portion of their country. He was corrupt and evil, the worst sort to leader their people.

“It’s going to be mine Sapphire. Stop being a child about this, I need those documents. Do you even know how dangerous the world is? The kind of people that are going to come looking?” He asked her. Like he cared. Sapphire shrugged.

“Not my problem,” she said and he stood up. Sapphire just watched him as he straightened his suit.

“You won’t make it back Sapphire. You’re weak, just like your mother. You don’t have what it takes, and when you serve your purpose, you’ll end up in one of their pleasure houses with a pretty little collar. Their men using you any time they please.” She ignored his angry words. Sapphire was sure that her uncle had a plan. He’d done a good job getting everyone out of the way that would oppose him. Then went for her parents to take their seat and rule.

When it came out that Sapphire was the sole heir to Lord and Lady Kamire her uncle had been livid. He’d bided his time for a short while and then came for Sapphire. He hadn’t expected her to be ready. To be capable of killing and injuring his men for hire. Well she did and then she ran. She was twenty-seven, she’d been raised to prepare to take the seat her parents had wanted to vacate with the different districts in their country.

Instead she’d run for her life, tried to get across the border to her cousin. She hadn’t made it, she’d been caught. Charged with murder and Tobias had made it look like she was crazy. However before any of that could stick Sapphire took her one and only way out. Joining the Cerulean Hunt.

Not her first choice, but if she could make it through, she would have her record cleared. She could not be charged, and besides she hadn’t murdered anyone in cold blood. She’d defended herself and the man happened to die.

Sapphire felt her eyes burn a bit but held back, for a moment as she went back to her room here in the facility that would examine her for suitability and going to the hunts. Since her Uncle was done talking to her she had to go back. She questioned if she could do this in her own head. Even if outside she showed strength. It was very rare for any to come back and Ceruleans were desperate for compatible females.

Sapphire was going to make it through, she told herself and went into her room and sat down on the bed. The room white and simple. Kind of like a cell, all the women that were here for this were like her. Either trying to clear their name, or they had nowhere else to go and so were seeing if they were able to be part of the hunt. To be taken and then given a chance try and make it back home.

If you did, then your record was completely cleared and you were given a new start if you needed it. A badge of honor too for going so that other females did not have too as in the past Ceruleans had started just taking females realizing they could mate with earthlings.

Putting her face in her hands she took a few breaths. God she was going to have to train and study hard. Tomorrow would start the first of the education and training for the hunt. At least she was going to the Cerulean hunt and not the Gorian hunt. That she knew damn well she would not come back from.

At least if she failed in the Cerulean hunt she would still be permitted to live. She told herself to not think like this, she could not doubt herself. She would join the hunt, be given the chance to participate and escape. Not just handed over, an agreement that humans had with Ceruleans.

Some women might just choose to stay. To give Ceruleans more to select from and not just resort to abduction they held these hunts. Which Ceruleans very much enjoyed, they liked seeing what a female was capable of to keep her as their Kyia if she remember the term right. The hunts were supposed to mimic some bizarre mating ritual or something. Kyia was the term for a female who was mated. It was quite serious for them.

“Oh Saphire, girl you need to focus. No doubt, just do,” she told herself and moved to lay back. She doubted she was going to get any sleep even if she needed it.
